Texas Hound coming to town for 3-4 days. Correct my itinerary . . .

You guys are awesome!! Thanks for all the great suggestions! I think I have only one hole left . . . a good weekday lunch spot between the Holocaust Museum (Smithsonian Station) and Ford's Theater (Metro Center Station).

Texas Hound coming to town for 3-4 days. Correct my itinerary . . .

I'm a Texas hound who lived in DC about 15 years ago. I'm coming in to town (Baltimore & DC) in a couple weeks, and I'd like any suggestions to correct my itinerary and fill in a couple gaps . . . Your comments are appreciated.

Okay, we get in to BWI late on Monday night and are staying in Baltimore. Due to the uncertain nature of flights, I figured we'd hit Sip and Bite before hitting the hay.

For lunch on Tuesday, I was planning on Chap's before heading to DC. (A suggestion for an early morning activity in Baltimore would be appreciated as well).

For dinner on Tuesday (in DC, Arlington, or Alexandria), I was originally planning the Phillips Waterfront, but was devastated (okay, not really) to learn that it's closed. Is there something else that has an expansive seafood buffet in an all-you-can-eat setting? Naturally, quality will obviously take a back seat to quantity here. If not, is Geranio in Old Town still delicious? If we can't gorge on mediocre seafood, we're pretty open here.

Lunch on Wednesday - Ben's Chili Bowl? Is there something else that is no too huge and is a "can't miss?" I don't think anyone in our group is dying to eat at Ben's, but it seems like one of those places that we should try.

Dinner on Wednesday - I'm thinking City Zen, unless it is truly not worth the time, hassle, money, etc.

Lunch on Thursday - When I was there (2000 - 2001), the best Peking duck was Duck Chang's in Annandale. If that's not the best, what is, that is also open for lunch?

Dinner Thursday - Sunday morning - visiting Lake Anna; probably mostly home cooking, but if there is a can't miss down by the lake (Bumpass/Mineral/Louisa area), we'll try to squeeze it in.

Sunday afternoon and evening (back to Baltimore) - Inner Harbor and ?Joe's Squared? - thoughts?

As you can see, we like almost everything, so all suggestions are appreciated.

Austin for Bachelorette

If you liked La Condessa, consider Sway. It's a take on Thai food from some of the same people. It's not technically downtown, but less than a $10 cab ride away.

Favorite Breakfast Tacos

I've got to pick Taco Deli as my favorite "street taco." Love the unique combinations, and have found them to be more flavorful than Torchy's. Juan in a Million is another good choice and certainly well above average.

Cherry M&Ms

Anybody seen these around town? I think they were discontinued several months ago, but I think stores are allowed to sell their remaining stock. I saw them at a gas station in Crockett, but that's a little far away. All help appreciated.

Sunday Brunch Buffet at The Park (Domain)

Thoughts? If no, where else has a good Sunday Brunch Buffett. I tried Fonda San Miguel today and feel like I wasted $100.

Looking for Goat Meat

Any suggestions on: (1) where to buy it; (2) how much/what cut(s) I need to serve 15 people, if goat is one of three meat entrees?

Questions Re Paggi House

Wine and drinks are excellent, brunch is good, parking is awful, service is inconsistent. Dinner can be hit or miss depending on your entree selection. I've had some really good stuff and some dishes that were very average. IMO, there are better places to go for an out-of-towner. I'd suggest La Condessa.

Restaurant Jezebel

I agree. I'm very curious about this cheese cart.

Everybody loves ________, but me

Brisket is excellent, but sauces are awful. Everything else is pretty damn good, but not sure if it justifies the wait/experience.

Two more from me: Asti and Fabi + Rosi. Granted, I've only been to each once, but did not think that they deserved the hype.

Places that Hounds Love to Hate (but I like)

I want sour cream on every single Mexican food I eat. Perhaps, even some sour cream flan?

Places that Hounds Love to Hate (but I like)

Bump for the Doritos Loco Taco Supreme! Also, contrary to Anthony Bordain, I do not find chicken McNuggets to be the most disgusting thing I've ever eaten. Far from gormet, no doubt, but not disgusting.

I'll second you on HPB&G. The place looked dirty and the food was meh.

SPIN Modern Thai

The escolar was excellent. 3-4 nice sized pieces in a tempura-style batter and flash fried. Served with a sauce of some variety - tasty both with the sauce and on their own.

Tanqueray vs. Hendrick's Gin?

Gin doesn't have to be painful. :-)

SPIN Modern Thai

We had the Sweet Corn Taro Tempura, Little Wing, Popcorn Escolar, Mooh Ping, Larb Sake, Beef Tongue, Panang Curry Fettuccine, and the Poached Shrimp. They were out of both the Pork Belly and the Duck. The wings, escolar, larb, and mooh ping were the stand outs.

SPIN Modern Thai

We went and throughly enjoyed it. Pasta dish(es) are regular meal sized, everthing else is Uchi-eque. We (2 people) ordered 4 apps, 3 mids, and 1 main (along with a split desert) and were stuffed. My ONLY dislike was the shrimp mid, which was served traditional style with the head-on. Not the worst thing ever, but the shrimp was really chewy with all the additional "parts"." Mayve traditional, but I did not like. Also, they were out of the two things that sounded best on the "large" menu (hence our app-centric order). I understand the desire to be fresh, but stocking the most popular items in sufficient quantities would be appreciated. All-in-all, a great dinner for 2 or under $100. I'd give it 4 out of 5 stars (probably more if the weren't out of so many tasty-sounding things on the menu).

Everybody loves ________, but me

I saw this on the Dallas board and was facsinated. I'll get you started with 2 places sure to engender discussion.

Everybody loves Hut's and Matt's El Rancho but me. Mediocre burgers and terrible Tex-Mex. And no, the drinks are neither good enough nor cheap enough to save MER.

Tanqueray vs. Hendrick's Gin?

I hate gin; but love Hendricks and New Amstersdam. All things considered, NA is as good as H, at about 1/3 the cost.

Hockey Playoffs?

Anybody found any new recommendations for tonight's Stanley Cup Final? Especially tough because it is competing with the NBA Eastern Conference Final (Game 7).

The best chicken in Chicago is at Crisp.

Disagree totally! The burger was sloppy and greasy and took almost an hour to get. Maybe this joint was great a few years ago, but it has fallen off the map now.

Lol. I'll pass on the "frat-bag" scene; just looking for a little showmanship.
