Car Week, Monterey. Need advice

Seaside has a branch of Saritas along with several other Mexican offerings. Look into La Tortuga, Jose's, Mariscos Puerto Nuevo, El Coperal and Pico de Gallo. The last recommendation is in Monterey on Del Monte Avenue. Also in Seaside is Lucky's Roadside Grill. Not Mexican but good food.

Where to stay near walkable, local food/shopping

The John Jeffries House is right accross the street from The Liberty. A lovely property. I have to say I've always enjoyed staying in the neighborhood. The Charles-MGH T stop accross from both properties will take you anywhere and makes for easy access to Logan
via South Station and the Silverline.

Where to stay near walkable, local food/shopping

I've stayed on Charles St many times and love that neighborhood. Check out the John Jeffries House for accommodation.

Duke's Mayo

It was part of a display of condiments (ketchup, mustard) and Fourth of July stuff.

El Centro: Awful. Boston, terrible food city.

If the restaurant this guy went to used that spelling no wonder his meal was so terrible. Thanks for the tip on Reno. If you have a chance pass the restaurants name along. Can you believe all the responses from this post. My email has been blowing up with all the notifications. I'm in California so did not run today. Just wore my shirt to support a city I love. Cheers.

El Centro: Awful. Boston, terrible food city.

Correct spelling is molcajete. It is the Mexican version of a mortar and pestal that is heated to over 400° and filled with chicken, beef, chorizo, Mexican cheese, nopales (cactus) peppers and onions in a delicious sauce spiced to your preference. It is usually served with home made tortillas and rice and beans. I live in California and there are several restaurants in the are that serve this dish. It is delicious, and if your in the Salinas area try the version at Casa del Saizon. That said I am a frequent visitor to Boston and the food scene has never disappointed me. Returning this summer after a 2 year break and already making my list. Will be wearing my Boston sweatshirt tomorrow and hoping for a safe marathon.

Maui - Luau lite

We went to the show at the Lahaina Cannery in January. Show is put on by students and teachers from a local dance school. There is live and taped music. We enjoyed the show and there were kids in the audience that were engaged and happy. Very simple production. Mall food court and restaurants might be ok for your "picky eaters".

but check out Trip Advisor or Yelp for info. You will
probably need a reservation. Going to try it for lunch tomorrow. Gino's is another popular local spot.

808 Antojitos-Mexican Food Lahaina

At the end of a four day trip to Maui with some very picky eaters I was on the hunt for Mexican food. I managed to to keep the peace with a meal at this pop-up Mexican food truck. 808 Antojitos is located at 741 Wainee St in Lahaina and is open Wed-Sunday from 5:30 to 10:pm. The operation consists of two little food trucks with outdoor seating and lighting set up between the trucks. I arrived late for dinner but my hard to please companions were smiling from ear to ear. They offer the traditional menu items along with tortas, and agua frescas . The special that night was posole. Everything was delicious and fresh. If your looking for casual dining with excellent Mexican food give this place a try.

Anywhere to buy a 6-8 lb turkey (e.g., L'il Butterball)?

Target offers a small turkey that might suit your needs. Always have had good results with this product.

Where to eat lunch by National Steinbeck Center, Salinas?

Hi Melanie
This is a little off topic but I think that Salinas is getting an Korean fried chicken restaurant. The Flying Chicken has its sign up and it says it is opening soon. Located on North Main a couple blocks north of Laurel.
Hopefully it will be good!

Easy walk. All Melanie's choices are spot on. The Molcajete is a large portion but worth trying as it is something you cannot get at many Mexican restaurants. Enjoy!

Tuna Sandwich at Dudley’s in Oldtown Salinas

I did go good burget but fries were frozen. Tortillas are made to order if you order tacos. They are at the Northridge farmers market on Sat AM and I did see them across from mi pueblo on a Friday after dark.

Where to eat lunch by National Steinbeck Center, Salinas?

Casa del Saizon, one of the best mexican restaurants in the area, has a location three blocks from the Steinbeck Center. The Bakery Station is good for sandwiches, Eagle Restaurant for Chinese, and Shogun or Kokoro for Japanese. Popular with the locals Dudleys and Sangs are diners in that area. There is a lot of buzz about a new restaurant named Patria that is also close to where you are visiting. My understanding is that it will open close to Thanksgiving, but check for updates online.

San Juan Bautista - Need area recommendation for large group lunch

i had the shrimp po boy and a cannoli. Both were very good. Yes, they do still have the wood burning oven and they offer a variety of pizzas and baked goods. The inside and outside spaces are beautiful. They serve breakfast on the weekend, coffee and pastries on weekdays. Check out their website for menus and directions. Worth a special trip or a stop by if you are in the area.

San Juan Bautista - Need area recommendation for large group lunch

Jardines and Dona Esthers come to mind. Both basic Mexican food. Jardines has a full bar and outside seating on a pretty patio. If you don't have to be in San Juan proper look at a restaurant called The Grove located about 20 minutes away towards the Hollister area. I had lunch there today and really enjoyed it. Prices were reasonable and the space was large and beautiful with inside and outside seating. Restaurant is affiliated with a winery so wine tasting is available .

Tricycle Pizza- Wood Fired Pizza at Pacific Grove and Salinas Farmers Mkts.

Last week browsing through the farmers market held on Mondays in Pacific Grove I came upon Tricycle Pizza. This vendor operates a mobile wood fired pizza oven and offers a variety of pizzas for sale. Pizzas include, Margarita, pepperoni , sausage and fennel, and chicken pesto pies. There was also a vegetarian pizza offered as a special. I love pizza and was excited this evening when I got to sample Tricycle Pizza . My pepperoni pie was delicious!!!. Will be returning as I love thin crust pizza made in this style. Pizzas are in the 11 dollar range, two dollars more if you have the pizza/drink combo. They take credit cards and cash. They are at the Pacific Grove Market every Monday and at the Salinas Memorial Hospital Market on Fridays. They also cater, and if their schedule permits they are at the Saturday morning Salinas Farmers Market in Old Town Salinas. Website: tricyclepizza.com- Phone:831-204-0730-email:info@tricyclepizza.com. This operation is the brainchild of a young women who loves to cook and I hope my fellow hounds will give this venture a try. You won't be sorry.

Paloma's Mexican Restaurant, Old Town Salinas

Definantely will. The mole is now served with a large chicken breast that was perfectly cooked. Off topic but did you see the Coast Weekly's" Best of " issue. I have no quarrel with the food of the winners in the Mexican Food and Tacqueria categories, but restaurants in Salinas need to start putting themselves forward, because the best Mexican food in Monterey County is not in Pacific Grove.

Paloma's Mexican Restaurant, Old Town Salinas

Got take-out from Paloma's today and it was excellent. Had the Green Mole and the Mole Azteca plus an order of cheese enchiladas. My co-workers know their Mole, and they loved both types, as did I. Our enchilada fan said her order was very good. Orders came with excellent rice and beans and the tortillas were HOMEMADE.Definately will be back. The owner helped me carry my order to my car and food was hot and ready on time. A new restaurant might have to take a couple of weeks to work out the kinks, but Paloma's is definately worth a try. Open between 11 and 7 .

I have not tried it, but a co worker has and she said food was fresh and very good. I am not always near the East Side after six, but with the change of time I too am going to give it a try. Like I said, I saw it across from Mi Pueblo, but will check with my co worker.I noticed the truck because of the big yummy hamburger painted on the side. Always looking for a great burger!

Mexican breakfast in Salinas?

Same menu in both locations. Preference for Romie Lane is just a personal choice. I don't think either site has made to order agua fescas, but there is a choice of Mexican beverages from coke to fruit sodas and I think a horchata or tamarindo fresca that is dispensed from a beverage machine, All will be good, and the tortillas are homemade.

Mexican breakfast in Salinas?

La casa del sazon is a great choice. I prefer the original location on Romie Lane, but at that location there is only beer and wine as far as the alcohol goes and it is smaller. I have friends that swear by Gloria's on the East Side and I know they do serve breakfast but do not have a full bar.

Need Restaurants for Santa Cruz and Monterey Bay

Love casa del sazon, but I prefer original location at 22 West Romie Lane, Salinas. Coming from Santa Cruz there is the excellent Lemongrass Thai in Moss Landing. For dinner near the Aquarium I like Il Vecchio (Italian) at 110 Central which is right up the street.from the Aquarium.
Enjoy!
