Where to eat and drink to feel like you're in New York?

You have quite the extensive list. I actually just returned from London a few days ago. My advice is not to overly plan your meals and give flexibility to just pop into some cute spots; LES and WV have a ton of them. That being said, some standouts (much of what you won't find in London) if you can get in are Roberta's, Black Seed Bagels, Dough, Mighty Quinn (or you might want to try Dino BBQ), and I personally think a place like Westville gets Londoners a little shook up. :)

Little Branch, Employees Only, Beauty and Essex, etc are some other good spots. Head to Flushing and Sunset Park in Brooklyn.

Thanks for all of the feedback, but I specifically want Coventry, not the surrounding area. Of the places in town, what do people suggest?

Yes, Pret has exploded all over nYC the past 5 years. I actually tend to like the menu better in the UK over the USA. Pret in NYC I put on the same level as Au Bon Pain, but maybe fresher.

Oh come on, don't be a bitter Brit! :) I think NYers indentify themselves often because it puts things in content. You're not going to suggest an amazing bagel place or this or that if you know someone lives in NYC. In addition, people in a city like NYC is used to very high quality food. It's the same thing when someone from SF says they're from there...they are putting everything in context...good Mexican, lots of farm-to-table, etc.

Coventry Assistance

I'll be at the University of Warwick in Coventry for five days. I would like some suggestions on breakfast and dinner places. For breakfast something ideally fast and HEALTHY--I'm an egg white omelette type of girl at home. Dinner would love to eat out at some decent places (not to keen on fish and chips and Indian, though). Breakfast places near campus would be much appreciated.

Also, I'll be in town Sunday evening and would love to check out a nice pub for their Sunday roast/dinner. Any suggestions?

I'm headed to London for about two weeks on business, thus, lots of meals to be eaten. I actually lived in London ten years fresh out of college, but I was poor and had no money to eat. I'm staying right by the South Kensington tube stop. I'll need some quick or takeaway places to grab a healthy breakfast before meetings (egg white omelete-type food) or right around St. Paul's where my meetings will be. In addition, any suggestions for cool, non-tourist places in Chelsea, Notting Hill, Kensington for dinner. I'm in my early 30s, so a more sophisticated crowd would be cool. Also, this time around I would like to explore more of East London, so food picks on there would be appreciative.

Thanks!

Where to find the best crispy charred brussel sprouts

Looks like you want fried not roasted...is that correct?

I personally have a difficult time ordering fried veggies...might as well order french fired given it's about the same amount of calories!

Buvette

I've been there before for just drinks at the bar and a meal. The atmosphere is cute but not when you see a huge line waiting, takes away part of the charm. I agree, go at a very off time. The food is pretty good but nothing mind blowing. Good looking wait staff though. :)

I cannot eat "strangers'" food

I don't have this problem but I can see where you are coming from. At a restaurant you know there are certain cleanliness procedures/standards. Here in NYC they are very, very strict about it and have letter grades. You have no idea if people washed their hands, the food, and how the state of their kitchen is. At work potlucks let's just say I stay away from certain coworkers' food because I can assume they aren't the cleanest people. I have a friend who is in the same boat as you in terms of never eating other people's food.

Your Favorite EASY Recipes

Cut up chicken sausages (my fave is TJ's jalapeno flavor) and throw in a pan until they begin to get browned and warm (a few minutes). Throw in lots of spinach and a little bit of salt, pepper and garlic and include either a can of chopped tomatoes or about 1/2-1 cup of your favorite pasta sauce. Turn on low to wilt spinach and warm up tomatoes/sauce and stir mixture for a few minutes. Plate and sprinkle a little parmesan cheese on it. This takes me all of 5 minutes from start to finish, seriously. It's fast, healthy and delicious.

Baked Eggs with Kale, Portobellos, and Feta

Here's why I gave it one star. I calculated the calories and something that should be relatively healthy came out to 600 calories PER SERVING! There is a lot of unnecessary fat included in this dish. Little tweaks and reductions could bring this down significantly (use Pam to spray dish, reduce amount of butter, use skim milk instead of heavy cream, etc).

Best cottage cheese? I vote for Friendship (no salt added)

I'm a cottage cheese-phene. Eat the stuff at least once a day, no joke. I have also lived all over the US and in a few countries abroad. I have to say the best brands are IMO definitely 1% Friendship (not the whip nor the no slat added variety), Daisy 2%, Meijer's 1% and Safeway brand'd copy of Friendship's 1%. Croatia also makes some awesome packaged cottage cheese.

Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

I love me Levain and Jaques but you're not always around those shops to pick one up. We get a lot of catering in my office, and I have to say, the chocolate chip cookies from Au Bon Pain and Metro Cafe are quite delicious as well as the oatmeal chocolate chip cookie from Potbelly's. Who knows what they put in the stuff but tasty!

This stuff is pure carby crack in the most delicious way possible! Breads also make this amazing granola-type roll.

Does anyone know if you can get Bulletproof Coffee in coffee shops? Or is that something you can only make at home?

Great question regardless if you're a working mom and have no time. I don't want to invest in all the ingredients before trying it out. If anyone has heard of nay of the coffee shops that make it (to the T) in Manhattan or Brooklyn, please let us know!

What did you/would you eat the morning of your wedding?

Why wouldn't she just have her normal breakfast if she normally feels fine after it? Like most others have said, don't mess with a good thing on your wedding day. Also, have some almonds handy for right before and even after the ceremony. Who knows when the bride will be able to eat again.

Groceries in England... cheaper than U.S? Why?

For some reason I find sandwiches to be much, much cheaper in London for the work crowd. It kills me paying $10 for a sandwich here in NYC.

Union Market's prepared food is horrible, just horrible. With seamless these days there is no point for anyone to get prepared food from there where anywhere under the sun with deliver.

What to eat with cottage cheese?

I eat CC all the time. Often I'll mix some libby pumpkin puree, pumpkin spice and a tad of maple syrup. It's delicious and almost a replacement for a more savory pumpkin pie. I also love to add strawberry jam and PB2 (easier to stir) to CC.

TJ's Chocolate Espresso Pillows?

Are you sure it's not the other chocolate they have in similar tins? Can be confusing because the pillows are orange and the other ones are slightly yellow and blue I believe.
