Good Coffee and Dessert Spot in St. Paul

Yikes, I'm showing my Minneapolitan nature on that one. Good call.

Good Coffee and Dessert Spot in St. Paul

Kopplins coffee is next door to Izzy's. Solid coffee/ dessert combo.

Coffee-Beer-Seafood Market DC Metro

Coffee-Beer-Seafood Market DC Metro

Just moved in for the summer from Minneapolis. Living in Bethesda, working in McLean

Mostly looking for whole foods as I'm too cheap to go out. I've gathered there are a fair amount of 3rd wave coffee shops around... Any good places to pick up beans?

I hit up Rodman's in D.C. for beer, solid selection, pretty fresh too. I'm open to suggestions.

And finally, it would be nice to pick up some fresh seafood somewhere.

..oh yeah and any asian grocery store suggestions would be boss.

Guinness Cream Soda

I know this is a bit off topic but...

Notes of banana and vanilla off-putting in beer? Most bourbon barrel aged beers have a large vanilla presence. Not to mention vanilla bean porters or stouts. There's usually a heavy banana character to many witbeers and saisons, which are fairly popular styles..

Did anyone actually try this recipe?

Don't know much about the authenticity, but this recipe was pretty damn good. The only real distraction was the forwardness of the cilantro, but I may have used too much. Great heat from the ancho and serrano, but not overpowering. Topped it with some shredded lime and garlic chicken and a couple fried eggs.

matching alcohol with spicy foods?

If you are going to be spending 8-9 bucks on the markup of an "Import" (Corona is in the midst of being acquired 100% by InBev) why not direct your money toward a superior product made in your region. By now most people can find a quality beer made in their state, or at least in the surrounding ones... Sorry this is all off topic.

matching alcohol with spicy foods?

Definitely go with a nice hoppy India Pale Ale if you are going with beer. I've read that the hop resin counteracts the effects of the capsaicin. I like to pair a Bell's Two Hearted with a spicy Thai curry, makes a great balance.

Bullfrog Mpls open?

Looked far from it when I walked past on opening day. I thought I had read they would be opening in early March so they would be ready by the season... Don't know what happened with that timeline

Strib Article says Mar 1 opening:

Soda Pop Store

Cool, I must have driven right past it last time.... I'll keep it in mind when I'm up there this spring. Thanks for the heads up.

Thanks for the Minnesota's Largest Candy Store recommendation everyone, Moxie looks like it would definitely be worth a try.

The Perennial Plate [Moved from Minneapolis St. Paul]

I might be super late to the game with this one but I just discovered The Perennial Plate:

Its a year-long project documenting local food in MN.

The rabbit and Thanksgiving episodes are particularly exciting. I work in the Cities as a freelance journalist and I have to say the collection of the episodes is a really amazing portrait of life in Minnesota.

This guy is a killer cook and they got to all corners of the state. Definitely worth the time to check it out if you haven't already.

Soda Pop Store

Hey all,

This has been bugging me for a couple months since watching the Obsessives on soda pop. I remember there being a pseudo-dedicated soda pop store in Taylors Falls which carried a crazy array of different off brand soda's in glass bottles, similar to the store featured in the Obsessives clip. I don't think it exists anymore but I was wondering if there was anything in the Cities that would fill that niche.
