Cancun - Hound worthy suggestions needed

Thanks so much for all the excellent recommendations!

So far, I think we're most interested in La Bamba Jarocha and the Yucatecan place (Restaurante Amaro).

Are there any dishes you'd recommend in particular at those places? (Since I don't speak Spanish, it might be important to just memorize the names of recommended dishes instead of browsing the menu)

For Amaro, do you have an exact address?

For La Bamba Jarocha, it appears to be an hour outside Cancun. Is there any method of transport you'd recommend, or other things to do out there to make it worth the two hours round trip? (We're going on a tour of Tulum and Coba, but, unfortunately, it's a fixed itinerary.)

Thanks once again for all your help!

Cancun - Hound worthy suggestions needed

I don't have any answers (my partner and i are planning to visit for the first time in about a week), but would like to second that request and add to it as well. We'd also be interested in local hole-in-the wall places, but also the following.

Anything authentic/local - anything that would give us an idea of regional tastes/regional specialities. doesn't necessarily have to be a dive or adventurous (but totally could be). local seafood would be of particular interest.

Any novel restaurant settings - i have heard there are some places (geared mostly to tourists) that have mediocre food, but interesting aesthetics, (things like restaurants in caves, etc). Wouldn't want to spend our entire trip in places like this, but would be curious to check out one or two.

Also, we have the limitation of not speaking spanish and, therefore, we're not renting a car, so it would have to be things we could get to by foot/bus/cab.

Thanks in advance!

Suggestions for Thai in Bay Area while Ruen Pair is closed?

Ruen Pair was the only Thai restaurant my wife and I would frequent. We really enjoyed that the food wasn't overly sweet and often had a bold fishy flavor. Any suggestions for alternatives?

SF Hound coming to Providence for one day

There are two of us and our trip is from noon on 11/12 (Sat) to around 2 p.m. 11/13 (Sun) and we will have a car. Restaurants don't have to be specifically seafood, but would definitely be nice if there was a particularly good seafood dish somewhere. Thanks for the great suggestions!

SF Hound coming to Manhattan for one day

Thanks Kathryn, all look like great suggestions! Yes, that was a typo, I did mean "cannot" get in SF. There are two of us and our trip is from the evening of 11/10, to the morning of 11/12. However, your "only in NY list" really covers everything. (Although I didn't see molecular gastronomy). Also, we're a little partial to seafood.

Interested in whatever is unique to the area, anything quirky, anything that we can't get in SF. Price isn't any issue, but we'd prefer not to eat more than one really pricey meal while we're there. Seafood is of particular interest.

Any recommendations for unique NY spots? We'll probably do one pricey meal, and the rest preferably under 25 per person. Anything we definitely could get in SF would be of particular interest.
Thanks!

Clam Chowder at night in Downtown Seattle

I'm in downtown Seattle and want a really good clam/seafood chowder. I checked the boards and everyone recommends Pike Place Chowder, however, it closes very early. Is there anywhere at night (particularly late at night) that has a good chowder? Thanks!
