Stay away from the Barking Crab

My wife and I were in the Financial District for the weekend following a conference in Boston on Friday. I agree with all the posts (who wouldn't) but we did have a decent "pot" of mussels in a reasonable broth for $11. The Sunday brunch crowd was mostly college to thirties who didn't seem to pay any attention to the quality of the food or the prices. My guess would be that is the target customer base, following the trend we observed all weekend in the bars surrounding the Qunicy Market.

We did go to Marliave on Friday for $1 Oysters which were exceptional. Well worth dropping $60 in our exuberence for finding such a great spot, and a wonderful, welcoming atmosphere. Three dozen went down smooth! Thanks to all the Boston posters.

Pie in NYC

A strong recommendation for the Little Pie Company @ 424 W.43rd between 9th and 10th Avenue. If you plan to bring a pie for dessert this is the place to shop in Manhattan. Light, flaky crusts, great natural fillings and just the right amount of sweetness without overwhelming. We usually get our holiday pies here.

Dell'Anima/Mike Colameco

Being new to the board, I wanted to go to a place with great food and a lively crowd. There are several threads on this restaurant, definitely order the complete range of "toppings" to the bruschetta, the pollo fra diavallo, the Bolognese, everything we had was just right.

Mike doesn't need any defense from me, we spend summers in Cape May area and only wish he and his wife would find some wonderful chef and open another restaurant as charming and challenging as The Globe.

Dell'Anima/Mike Colameco

Using Mike Colameco's guide, we chose this restaurant on Eighth Avenue near Jane St, hosting a dinner for one of my banker wife's food industry clients. The entire evening was very nearly a reproduction of Mike's thoughtful and detailed review. With several bottles of wine and some after dinner drinks the bill with tip came to around $125 per head, worth every penny. The only caution is the noise level; since you basically eat in the bar area and are bracketed by the busy kitchen, the place is not conducive to quiet conversation.

Warmly recommended, very competent and attentive staff.
