Best Chinese and Thai in Amsterdam

I think the best are: White Elephant (van woustraat) for Thai (real dining & more expensive), Sogkran (marnixstr)and if you want it more young & hip Takethai (utrechtsestraat) for chinese New Season (warmoesstr) or Taste of Culture (korte leidsedwstr) the last one is where all the chefs go after their service

amsterdam with kids - recs please!

Best Hamburger in Town = Burgermeester (also in de pijp see burgermeester.eu for branches) take the mini's for the tasting & the kids. Recent new opening = vandaag, very reasonable fresh food and great for kids just a few minutes from de pijp (vandaag.nl). Around the market in de pijp are some wonderful asian small restaurants. Try the roti; you can't miss them. See IJscuypje for the best icecream in town (also around the albert cuypmarket). Forget the big pizzachains but go instead to pizzabakkers.nl or pizzakamer.nl in de pijp. Excellent thin crusted pizza. Have fun!

Calabria Tropea

Hi Bob,

Just back from Tropea; La Tavernetta is great. Forget Tropea for decent food (Volpe e Uva & del Pescatore are not worth a visit). Best place (quality & price) = Frammiche (rustic food for a bargain price). Il Normando in Mileto is also nice. Other best in the area are Gustibus in Palmi and Taverna Kerkira - Bagnare Calabria. Tx again for your input.

Grand Cafe 't Elfde Gebod in Noordwijk an Zee, the Netherlands

Lia, regarding food Noordwijk is one big tourist trap. Enjoy the beach but when you want to enjoy good food go to: Leiden (in den doofpot - great food & wines or woods - wonderful terrace at the waterfront). The only reasonable restaurants in Noordwijk are Bij Raggers and Villa de Duinen. Enjoy!

Amsterdam on a Sunday night - where to eat??

Both Lof & De Kas are closed on sundays. And Lof is really not that awesome anymore. Kas location is great, food is moderate.
Lastage is great but almost always fully booked (> month in advance). Baut (bautamsterda.nl) is new and really good food and important affordable. So is Rijssel too. With Serre, Wilde Zwijnen the places to choose from by my opinion.

AMSTERDAM FOODIE IN CHICAGO

I'm in Chicago by the end of november and looking for nice lunch & dinner options. I'm not in posh 3michelin starred restaurants so forget Alinea but I'm more looking for tasty, original, slowfood places. Say the hidden gem's for Foodies in Chicago or neighbourhoods. We stay in Public Chicago, but 30 min taxi or small roadtrip is no problem at all.

Vegetable lovers seek recs for cheap places that do magic with produce. (AMSTERDAM)

Sorry Chloes, I live in Amsterdam and am a food critic for 2 magazines. De Witte Uyl is not a top 50 restaurant to my opinion. It's really not special!

PUGLIA AND MATERA: A Report

You're wrong because you have no idea what's happening on food and more specific veg's in Amsterdam. Can happen but then I think it's better to keep your preferences personal. Instead of sharing them ;-)

Anyone visited Slow Food University and Ristorante Guido?

I checked out the Bancadelvino (see bancadelvino.it) nice tastings off all the important wine-regions of Italy. Ristorante Da Guido was a little bit disappointing in price/quality. Better option is to go to the home of slowfood italia: Trattoria Il Boccondivino - Bra (10 minutes by car) www.boccondivinoslow.it/ita-boccon/st....

Nice dinner in the Hague

In the Hague you can go to: www.brasserieberlage.nl very childfriendly and afffordable. If the wheather is nice I would go to one of the restaurants directly on the Scheveningen beach for instance: Doen (small St Tropez) www.younghoreca.nl/locaties/doen.html or Whoosah (www.whoosah.nl) or Boomerang (www.boomerangbeach.nl). Always fun for kids and a nice ambiance for the parents.

Restaurants needed in Chinchon & surroundings

Looking for nice restaurants in Chinchon and surroundings. Arriving june 1th for 3 day stay before a week in Madrid. I'm really a foodie but not such a fan of michelin starred restaurants (almost always no value for money). Like to try the traditional cuisine. Looking for the special places.
