Eastside Envy

I agree - for me it beats every other restaurant we've been to in Seattle proper.

Fish: Where do you buy yours?

I usually get fish from Whole Foods, and I've always found it to be really fresh and good quality. Their staff are super helpful, too.

The Seattle eat-list for this weekend - thoughts?

IMO Cupcake Royale in Ballard tops Trophy...

Auckland and Wellington Fine Dining

I agree: check out the Cuisine website for their list of the top restaurants in New Zealand.

My picks for each city are:
Auckland: French Cafe (or I've heard lately that Meredith's is fantastic)
Wellington: Matterhorn (awesome food and a more funky ambiance) or Logan Brown (true fine dining in a very elegant restored bank building).

Bill the Butcher in Woodinville?

We stopped in there today - FANTASTIC. The only thing we've managed to actually try so far is their Lindjaeger (sp?) sausage, which is wonderful, but the fresh meat looks amazing. Well aged, grass fed, organic beef - and prices comparable to Whole Foods, so pretty reasonable for organic meat!

New Orleans with a baby

Thanks so much for that info, it's really helpful. We arrive tomorrow evening, so I'll be sure to post and let you know how our trip goes!

New Orleans with a baby

Hi, I'm an avid foodie coming to New Orleans next week, and I'd love to experience as much of the city's food as I can. The catch is that I'm travelling with my son, who is 1. So we'll mainly be doing lunches and early dinners (and hopefully one night we can get a babysitter and do a "nicer" dinner).

Are most of the frequently recommended places (Commander's Palace, MiLa, Lil Dizzy's, Mr B's, Cochon Eat) child-friendly?

Are there any specific places people would recommend for someone eating out with a small child (bearing in mind that I love food, and I'm not really looking for chain restaurants).

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Best Happy Hours on the Eastside (SEA)

Another great source - thanks!

Best Happy Hours on the Eastside (SEA)

That website is exactly the kind of thing I was looking for - thanks!!

Best Happy Hours on the Eastside (SEA)

Hey everyone,

Does anyone know of any places with a great happy hour on the Eastside? Preferably in the Bellevue/Kirkland area, but I'll consider anything!

Thanks...

Cheap eats in Redmond?

There's Matador, for something a little more than just burgers, or Chipotle, for cheap but fresh Mexican. Chipotle is walking distance to Marymoor Park (in the Whole Foods complex). Iyara Thai on Cleveland St has (IMO) the best Thai in the area.

Red Velvet Cake

Cupcake Royale in Ballard also does a fantastic Red Velvet cupcake...

Dining options in Woodinville, WA

Thanks for the recommendations folks, we look forward to trying them all out!

Seattle-area Dim Sum

We went to Top Gun in Factoria today, and it was fantastic. Definitely the best dim sum I've found since moving to this area almost a year ago. The staff were friendly, the food was hot and delicious, with plenty of variety, and it was PACKED by the time we left (we arrived shortly after 11am to beat the rush) - always a good sign!

Dining options in Woodinville, WA

Pretty much anything! We've tried Barking Frog (brunch only) and Racha Thai, and we're familiar with Purple from their Kirkland restaurant. I'm particularly interested in a good Mexican take out place, and a good pizza place...

Dining options in Woodinville, WA

Does anyone have any recommendations for food options in the Woodinville area? We've recently moved up here, and are looking for both take out and eat in places that come with the Chowhound seal of approval...

[SEA] Dinner near Microsoft?

I second/third the recommendations for Pomegranate in Redmond and Cafe Juanita in Kirkland.

If traffic from Microsoft to Redmond via the 520 is bad, you can always take a "short cut" through Marymoor Park - it'll cost you a buck, but it's worth it to avoid the traffic.

IMO Cafe Juanita is well worth the extra distance, though.

Review: Cafe Juanita, Kirkland WA - fantastic

My husband and I went to Cafe Juanita last night for our first anniversary (having originally planned to go to Chicago for the weekend, our plans were thwarted by the flu that's going around at the moment and we had to opt for somewhere a little closer to home). I almost felt lucky I'd caught the flu! This was our first visit, and what a find - thanks to all the Chowhounds who've previously posted about this place, as otherwise I would have had no idea it existed.

I can't comment on the wine list, as I'm pregnant and abstaining, but my husband seemed to enjoy his selections from their "by the glass" list!

The food was incredible - I started with the baby beet salad, topped with a ball of light bread filled with gorgonzola and baked until crispy - delicious. My husband had the goat cheese gnocchi with lamb ragu, and couldn't stop talking about it. Tiny, pillow light gnocchi in a perfectly balanced sauce... divine. I then had the duck breast, served with farro - a large grain I'd never tried before but found interesting and a good match for the duck. The skin of the duck breast was PERFECT; salty, crispy and with just the right amount of juicy fat still attached. Without doubt one of the best duck meals I've ever had. Our other entree choice was the rabbit raviollini - again, a wonderful dish. We finished the meal with their Meyer lemon tart, which was as delicious as we'd come to expect from Cafe Juanita!

Our server was attentive and knowledgable, and wished us happy anniversary as he brought out the lemon tart with a candle sparkling on top.

All in all, a wonderful evening, and we'll definitely be returning (hopefully soon!).

Best restaurant (romantic dinner) in Kirkland, WA?

I was just about to post a review of Cafe Juanita when I saw your thread - my husband and I had dinner there last night to celebrate our first anniversary, and it was fantastic. Wonderful service, delicious food, and great ambience. Well worth the cab ride from where you're staying.

Anniversary dinner near W Hotel Lakeshore

Thank you SO much, this is incredibly helpful. I'll give some of these places a call today, and let you know where I end up getting a reservation!

Anniversary dinner near W Hotel Lakeshore

Hello Chicago hounds,

My husband and I are traveling to your city next weekend for our first wedding anniversary, and I'd love some input on a fabulous place to have dinner on the Saturday night. We're staying at the W Hotel Lakeshore, so somewhere in that general vicinity would be great, as we won't have a car.

We like pretty much any kind of food, but given this is a special occasion and we're in a new city (we're New Zealanders currently living in Seattle), we'd like to try a fine dining restaurant that's particularly "Chicago".

Thanks in advance...

SEA - is Matt's in the Market closed at the moment?

We've been quite recently, and loved it - but I wonder whether they're closed for the early new year...

SEA - is Matt's in the Market closed at the moment?

I've tried three or four times tonight to call and make a reservation for tomorrow night, but received no answer (and there isn't a helpful "we're closed" message on their answering service, just a cut-off). Does anyone know whether they're closed at the moment?

Brix Wine Cafe - Kirkland/Juanita

I went to Brix few weeks ago, and had the skirt steak - my first experience with skirt steak (being from New Zealand, where it's not so popular) and I can't say I'd try it again. But that's just my taste, and the potato galette and chard that accompanied it were delicious. My husband had the roast chicken breast, which was delicious, and we had the crab cakes and the mushroom flatbread as appetizers - both nice.

I'd compare Brix to Pomegranate in Redmond, which I actually prefer.

Visitng Seattle for 2 days.....a few questions....Matt's in the Market, Serious Pie, etc.

Matt's is fantastic, and as noted, has counter seating so would be ideal for a solo diner. I also second the recommendation for Le Pichet - they always have great oysters, the wine list is superb, and the range of small plates means you can try a number of different things without over-eating!

Best Sushi: Bellevue or Seattle

I've always had good sushi at Yama (at the Galleria) in Bellevue - it's not super cheap, but the fish is excellent and they're pretty creative.

Sat lunch in Woodinville or Snohomish...

We had lunch at The Barking Frog on Saturday, and it was fantastic. Impeccable service, and delicious food - for a very reasonable price. We'll definitely go back.

Seattle - Kung Fu Girl Riesling?

I've also seen it at Whole Foods - the Redmond one at least. Great riesling at a bargain price.
