Lao menu at Bangkok Golden in Falls Church - Report

We actually tried the fermented fish and absolutely loved it. I have asked for several things off menu that you have mentioned, but they look at us funny everytime and appear confused. This is why I wanted to ask before trying to go further outside of the box. They also have a Facebook page and post all kinds of "specials" the chef makes.

Lao menu at Bangkok Golden in Falls Church - Report

We have gone several times and have tried most of the things recommended. Steve and a few others speak of things on a secret menu and different specials made per request. We are planning another trip in Nov. and we would love to try something different. I thought about this during our last meal, but I did not know how to ask for either and would love some suggestions. Some of the waitresses appeared confused when I asked them previously about things that were not on the Lao menu.

Thank you so much for the recommendations. We ordered the Sai Oua, Koi Pah and the grilled pork neck. Our favorite hands down was the pork neck. We loved the Lao sausage. The fish was delicious and very spicy. We will definitely come back to try the others. I Really wanted to try the Ping Lin, but they did not have it today. Thank you!! We'd go back tomorrow, but I need my A&J!!!

It has been awhile and unfortunately I cannot recall specifically. The dishes all seemed to have a coconut taste and I am not a fan of coconut.

Lao menu at Bangkok Golden in Falls Church - Report

We are back in town again and have yet to try Bangkok Golden. I have tried a few Thai dishes elsewhere and for some reason I cannot acquire the taste. We really want to try the Lao Menu, but I don't want to waste a lunch if i know I won't like it. Any recommendations on what to order or should we go elsewhere?

Mexican in DC

We haven't found many Mexican places in DC/NOVA that were fantastic although we did go to La Mexicana Bakery and Taqueria in Alexandria, VA and thought is was very good. Why does it seem good authentic Mexican food is hard to find everywhere? We were recently in Las Vegas and were very disappointed with a place that was highly recommended by the locals and tourists. Has anyone else experienced this?

Sushi Mon

We are heading to Vegas in November and are planning on going to Sushi Mon. It is our understanding there are two locations. Is one location preferred over the other or are they both equally good?

Looking for new eats in DC/NOVA

Steve, thank you so much for the A&J recommendations! We ordered the fried beef bun and the hot and sour noodles, which were phenomenal. We also ordered the bean curd with the thousand year egg. Rick thought the egg was fantastic, I not so much... Per other recommendations, we ordered the Beef Noodle Soup Schezuan Style with wide noodles. The noodles and beef were wonderful. We added some bite to the broth which made it taste better as it did not have a lot of flavor, but it was still very good.

Joe's was delicious- Kung Pao Homestyle was awesome. Rick wanted the Mapo Tofu and he loved it. Thank you for all of your recommendations! Joe's will be a regular now, we just have to determine what else to order!!!

We have been debating on going there every time but we chose JNH on our last trip. It was so phenomenal per your recommendations that we want to go back this time around. Rick is still set on getting the Kung Pao Homestyle and Mapo Tofu. Any other rec's for A & J?

It's that time again! We're heading back down for Labor Day weekend and have most of our venues planned. We still need one more lunch for Saturday. We are going back to JNH and Hee Been, as they were phenomenal the last time. We are staying in Chantilly this time around. Mazadar? A&J? La Caraquena? Any suggestions to curb my craziness?

Okra tonight

I make okra quite frequently for lunches. I usually have frozen though because it's difficult to find fresh okra in PA. On of my favorites is very simple to make. I use a 12 inch non-stick pan- add okra, a can of no salt added diced tomatoes, chop up an onion, jalapeno or a can of green chilis, several cloves of garlic along with cumin, tumeric and a dash of vinegar. Add chili powder or cayenne for some heat if you want. You may need to add some water as well. Simmer until okra is cooked through.

You can find a lot of recipes by looking online. That's usually where I look. Good Luck!!

Terrapin of Athens, GA

I've had Terrapin's Monk's Revenge and it is phenomenal. I've had it at Mad Mex in Pittsburgh. I was able to get a four pack of it in Virginia at a Total Wine. Definitely a favorite!!

Keeping Lobsters Alive

Per the recommendation of a wholesaler we purchased lobster from in New England, we put the lobsters in the refrigerator drawers and put wet paper towels on top of them. They kept for two days. I believe he said they keep no more than three days.

Rockville, A&J, Bob's Noodle 66, or Joe's Noodle House?

Rick and I went to Joe's Noodle House as planned and we ordered the shredded radish, wontons in hot sauce and rice cakes with pork. Each dish brought something different to the table and they were all fantastic!! For under $20, we both left fulfilled! Thank you for the recommendations! We may want to head back sooner than later for the Mapo Tofu and Kung Pao Homestyle. Any thoughts?

Bakery in Rockville?

We are staying in Rockville Saturday night and are looking for a bakery to head to in the morning for a coffee and early morning snack. It does not have to be a traditional bakery, or even American for that matter, just something delicious. Any recommendations would be wonderful.

I have no idea why we have never attempted Bangkok Garden. Steve, your picks sound really good. Have you or anyone gone for the lunch or dinner buffet? Any other recommendations?

Turkey recipes?

We try to eat as healthy as we can and we do a pretty good job sticking to lean meats, fish and greens. Planning our meals is a must during the week, but it is difficult around this time of the year as soup is not as desirable in warmer weather. This week we decided to buy a whole turkey and break it up into several lunches for the week. Does anyone have any suggestions for healthy lunch recipes?

We had a very nice trip (which is never long enough!) and I want to thank you for all of the recommendations. Our first stop was in Alexandria. We went to La Mexicana Bakery and Taqueria and split the 4 taco plate along with a sopes which were excellent! We then decided to have a little snack at Cho Cu Saigon in Eden Center. I ordered a small portion of roasted pig which was also very tasty. And then we had our Banh Mi feast from Ba Le in Falls Church.... which is never a disappointment. I have always wanted to try their Pho-style soup and to scratch an itch, I ordered the rice noodle with wontons. It wasn't superb, but for some reason, we couldn't stop eating it!! Oh, and we also had to have a chicken leg as another snack! On Friday after walking about the cherry blossoms, we decided on Mark's Duck House. My boyfriend was having a Peking Duck urge, so we ordered a half of a duck and some Dim Sum. The duck was good, but nothing spectacular. The Dim Sum was very good with the pork rice noodle being the best. We ended our trip at China Bistro in Rockville where we took 3 orders of dumplings and the spicy wonton soup home. I am sure we will be back again in a few months and will be trying some of the other recommendations. Thanks, again!
