In search of the best Cinnamon Roll in Austin
Thanks for the sugguestions so far! Where can i find these Barrie Cullinan's "AM rolls"? Are they available anywhere besides the farmers' market on the weekends?
I'll try Texas French Bread tomorrow morning. I hadn't thought of trying that place.
Thanks again.
In search of the best Cinnamon Roll in Austin
Cinnamon Rolls are my weakness. There are different styles of cinnamon rolls (flaky croissant style such as Upper Crust and Russels vs. the yeast-y creamy frosting type from Central Market). I love them ALL, but today i'm thinking about the yeast-y dough-y kind with plenty of cinnamon spread rolled in, and frosting, preferably with raisins. My absolute favorite in that category is The Kolache Shoppe on Burnett Road... they are delicious! But i'm looking for a backup and always excited to try a new cinnamon roll :) Thanks for any suggestions.
suggestions for Mom's Night Out Dinner
Thanks everyone for the suggestions! We ended up at East Side Showroom, and that place fit the bill perfectly! We all had good food, the atmosphere was lively (2 musicians playing live, but not crazy loud), and an awesome cocktail menu. Really enjoyed that place!
suggestions for Mom's Night Out Dinner
Looking for a restuarant for 3 thirty-something ladies for a mom's night out dinner. We love good food, but don't get out much these days, so curious about any new places we should try. One idea is Haddingtons (is that place too quiet/romantic, more for date night?). Another idea was Contigo, but i think the weather might be too chili tomorrow. Some place fun with great food, anywhere within 5 or so miles of downtown is fine too. Thanks for any suggestions!
Christmas dinner party for 30 downtown... Suggestions?
i should have been clearer, this is for a company party 'around' the holidays... maybe the week before. Price is not an issue. Looking for really great food and atmosphere. I've been out of the loop for over a year, so maybe there's some good new hot spot i don't know of. But an established restaurant would be great too. Thanks!
Christmas dinner party for 30 downtown... Suggestions?
Any suggestions for a good restaurant downtown to accomodate a Holiday company party for 30? Great food and drinks a must. Thanks!

Anniversary Dinner for (out of the loop) foodies
My husband and i are celebrating our 3rd anniversary tomorrow night!! We love great food, we're adventureous eaters, and we'd love to try a new place. I used to keep up with the latest and greatest in the Austin food scene, but we also have a 6 month old baby, so i'm totally out of the loop. We're tossing around Uchiko / Wink / Texas French Bread. (by the way, we won't have baby with us.) Just wondering if i'm missing any good new restaurants since we've been pretty homebound lately. We're willing to go downtown, but bonus points if the restaurant is a bit further north. We live near Lamar/ 45th. And we like ALL kinds of food. Thanks foodies :)

Where to have a cow butchered/ processed?
I would like to find someone to butcher a cow, and be absolutely sure that the meat i get back is meat from my own cow. We are raising a very small herd of cattle (only 9) and so far, they have been pets. But now we're ready to reap the rewards and butcher one. These cows have been fed a very healthy diet (no grains, hormones, antibiotics); they are free-ranging; and frankly... spoiled. Therefore, i want to be sure that the butcher doesn't mix up our precious "Norman" with meat from a less happy cow. Thanks for any suggestions!
Arpeggio Rules
Agreed! The vegitarian plate at Arpeggios is delicios too! The guys in the kitchen always look like they know what they're doing, and they look like they're having fun doing it too!!
great cold soup recipe?
i, too, LOVE making cold soups in the summer. recently, i made a chilled avocado-cucumber-wasabi soup, and it was wonderful. it's my new favorite cold soup. very refreshing and green!
did Yume close?
i was in the Triangle last friday trying to get some Yume sushi, and (unless i'm crazy), it was closed... a sign in the window said "Coming soon - some other sushi restaurant"
Sushi at Quality Seafood?
they served tuna, salmon, crab, and combos thereof. i hear you, small pieces do not necessarily equate to bad sushi, but the cuts were uneven and not well presented. You know, you just like your sushi to look pretty. but served on those creme colored plastic plates without any frill or "zen" to it... I'm really not bashing QS. i just think their sushi night is not their finest moment (at least not yet).
Sushi at Quality Seafood?
i'm a huge fan of Quality Seafood ~ i think it's some of the best and freshest fish in town. but i have to admit, their sushi night is not the greatest. i thought the idea sounded cool, so we went to check it out with high hopes, but ehhh, the rolls weren't interesting, or well presented, and the pieces were very small. I guess they should leave sushi to the Japanese, and keep doing what they do best ~ shuckin me some oysters!!
best dinner deals in town...
Does anyone have tips for some econo-dining in Austin? For example, the 2-for-1 burgers on Wednesday nights at Huts ~ you can't beat it!
Which other restaurants offer special daily deals for the budget conscious consumer?
Downtown Dallas Dinner - special place
i live in Austin, but i'll be in downtown Dallas in a few weeks with my new husband (of 1 week!) for a Saturday night show at the House of Blues. We are adventurous eaters, and love great dining. This will have to be an early dinner because the show starts at 8:ish... and prefer to stay downtown.
i'm open to sitting at the bar if someone could suggest a place with a great bar menu and great Atmosphere. (BTW - no steak houses.) can i get some chowie suggestions??!!!
thanks!
Rec for Great Italian
i'm in NY for the weekend with my boyfriend and we're looking for a great italian restaurant to try. something authentic with great atmosphere, great red wine, and great food (pricey is ok). We're staying in Midtown, but i dont' mind taking a cab somewhere else in the city for a great dinner/ evening. We are from Austin, so great italian restaurants are a treat! thanks
