Those weird things you eat when you are in your kitchen

Funny, but cold pizza isn't one of my temptations. i think its because I absolutely love when its heated in the toaster oven. Its worth the wait.

Those weird things you eat when you are in your kitchen

LOL! I've been known to eat others that way, too. Not at work, mind you, but from my fridge and maaaaybe my inlaws in a rare moment of weakness.

Those weird things you eat when you are in your kitchen

My biggest "secret" thing that I love and always do is to eat the cold leftovers out of the tupperware. Pasta or leftover veggies are my main guilty pleasures with macaroni and cheese ranking quite highly. Half the time I actually get a fork; the rest of the time I just pluck a few pieces out with my fingers and pop it back in the fridge for next time.

That makes sense. I'll keep it in mind for next time!

I didn't know that about Robinos! Will they split it in one dish, or two? I finally branched out and tried the white clam sauce, which was tasty. I can't imagine that in the same dish with something else, though.

Which Two Cuisines for the Rest of your Life?

My immediate thought was Italian and Mexican, which I will stay with. Although I will elaborate to say that I'd want each cuisine to inclulde both the traditional and the Americanized versions of them. I've never been to Italy, so I can't speak for traditional cuisine, but I love Italian food and in my personal world this includes pizza. I have been to Mexico a few times and love the traditional cuisine, but I also have a soft spot in my heart for Tex Mex after working at ChiChis throughout college.

Dunkin Artisan Bagels

Personally, I find the regular bagels at DD to be more like bread or a roll than like a bagel. I like a tougher, chewier crust and a thick, but soft center. More like a pretzel. The artisan bagel that I tried was more in this range.

Dunkin Artisan Bagels

I saw a sign for these and was a bit intrigued, despite my usual dislike of DD's bagels. They have 2 new "artisan" flavors of pumpernickel and sun-dried tomato. I decided to try the pumpernickel out this morning and was pleasantly surprised. It was quite tasty! Mild pumpernickel flavor, chewy crust and a soft center. Way better texture than their usual bagels. I'll definitely try it again. Figured I'd share!

Great! We'd love the feedback! It looks like I'll also be heading there this weekend. All this talk about it has put red gravy on my mind!

I'm glad that I'm not the only one! The crab sauce and the lasagna are both on my to-try lists, but when I get in that seat I just can't bring myself to try anything else. Its that good.

I've tried the escarole and was a big fan of it. I'm not the hugest broccoli rabe fan, due to the bitterness, and don't remember it being over the top bitter.
I will say that their cheese ravioli is the best I've ever had. Makes it near impossible to try other things, so I usually take tastes from my dining partners.

My favorite spot in that area is Mrs Robinos, on Union St. Red gravy place if I ever saw one and the food is all fresh and delicious. I think you'll find what you're looking for there.

seeking non-bitter commercial enchilada sauce

I love Trader Joe's enchilada sauce.

Inexpensive lunch on road from Philly to Rehoboth Beach, DE

so glad that you enjoyed it! Thanks for reporting back. I only wish that it were closer to me because we'd be there all the time.

I'll second the PoBoys rec. If I were you, I'd just keep on going and grab lunch there. If you don't have any thing planned in mid-afternoon, you can schedule a tour at the brewery for after lunch. That right there one of my favorite Fridays!

The odd cravings and dislikes of a pregnant woman [Moved from General Topics board]

Very interesting... I had a boy the last time and my tastes were similar. I'll know for sure in a few months. Congrats to you! I hear you on the eggplant over chicken. I definitely lean toward the vegetarian items these days.

The odd cravings and dislikes of a pregnant woman [Moved from General Topics board]

I'm on my second pregnancy and pulled up this old thread to reread my thoughts and discussions from the last one. So much fun to read about everyone's crazy cravings.

I've found it interesting that my cravings during this one are very similar to my previous pregnancy. I'm at 11 weeks right now and, am again very into bread and butter, cheese, fruit. Definitely not interested in raw or large pieces of meat. My nausea is stronger this time (can't wait for that to end) and I can't really look at pictures of food without feeling ill.
The only seriously strong craving I've had is for rice. Like the slightly overcooked, sticky white rice I used to get at school. I've had rice a lot of times since the craving hit and just can't quite get it right. If I can recreate that with some cheese and salt I'll be in heaven.

Some odd aversions are sweet BBQ sauce, green peppers (which literally make my throat burn), or any type of acidic vegetable, like canned tomatoes, white onions, cooked bell peppers, pickles, etc. I normally love these things and hope it comes back!

Best Fries in the U.S.

my vote is for Chickies & Petes Crab Fries with cheese in the Philly area. Crisp, crinkle cut fries topped with Old Bay and served with a white cheese sauce for dipping. I go out of my mind over these.

Food at Disney

We were just at Epcot a few weeks ago and I enjoyed my meals very much. We started in Mexico at the first cantina that you come across, simply because we were hungry and the lines were reasonable. I ordered the chicken tacos, which featured 3 tacos on corn tortillas with pico de gallo, cilantro, & lime and was served with chips. My husband tried the beef tacos and SIL ordered the nachos. Guac was ordered to share. Those of us who'd been to Mexico enjoyed the tacos more than those who didn't. I enjoyed both meats, but the beef was slightly better than the chicken.
The nachos were similar to Taco Bell with the cheese sauce and ground beef. Not that there's anything wrong with that- we enjoyed it- but it was a different style than the tacos. The guac was good and even better after we squeezed a hint of the lime on it.

Snacks were from France- the patisserie had very well made desserts and coffee at reasonable prices. We tried the chocolate cake and chocolate croissants. Both delicious.

Dinner was in Italy- I believe the restaurant was called Via Natale. We put our names in earlier in the day and were thankful that we had. This was one of the best meals of the week. We shared the arancini (risotto balls) which were amazing. The server came back to find us scooping the remaining sauce off the plates with our forks- it was that good. We shared a large pepperoni pizza. This was outstanding. Slightly well done, chewy crust... amazing marinara, fresh mozzarella, and crispy little pieces of pepperoni. We ate it all and loved every minute of it. Service was wonderful and our 7pm reservation allotted us plenty of time before the light show.

I hope this helps!

What's the best sandwich at Tony Luke's?

For me, its the chicken cutlet with broccoli rabe and sharp provolone. My husband's odd favorite are their breakfast sandwiches, which he claims to be the best he's ever had.

Teh Dorito Taco!?

Love it! I had many incidents myself involving Boones Farm "wine". Thanks for the memory and the smile!

Lunch near Children's Museum in Wilmington

Its along the lines of a W-S, but more personalized. It has a very comfortable feel. The owner has had a website for a few years with high end kitchen gear before opening the store last fall. I would suggest checking it out at some point, for sure.

Rehoboth Beach Long Weekend Suggestions?

When you go to Milton for the brewery I STRONGLY suggest that you stop at Po Boys for a meal. Its only 5 minutes from the brewery and they have the most amazing food at affordable prices.

New Greek Restaurant in Wilmington- Terra Cafe

I had to pull this thread back up to surface after an amazing lunch at Terra today. I was craving a turkey burger and know that they use fresh meat instead of frozen, so I decided to try it out. I substituted the stewed green beans for fries. While waiting for my food, I was a little bothered at myself for spending $10 on lunch but after the first bite my thoughts completely disappeared. The freshness is worth a few extra dollars. This was, without a doubt, the best turkey burger that I have ever had. It was juicy and had the most unbelievable flavor. I don't know what kind of herbs they mix in but it works. it had a piece of provolone cheese, fresh lettuce and tomato, and a spicy aoili on top. Fresh whole wheat bun.... seriously amazing. The green beans were an extra dollar, but are just such a delicious side dish option.

You gotta try it!!

Chinatown Restaurants with the Fried Noodles

Yum! I love S&P squid. Thanks!

Chinatown Restaurants with the Fried Noodles

I figure that this would be the best place to put out this question... I'll be taking my dad and his wife out to dinner in a few weeks before a show at Union Transfer and am thinking that Chinatown is the best bet to suit all of our tastes. I used to work in the area and have many favorite spots, however none none of them fit this one particular requirement. My dad absolutely loves the fried noodles with duck sauce and mustard that are sometimes given at the beginning of a meal. Unfortunately, most of my favorite spots (Vietnam, Lee How Fook, Banana Leaf) dont offer this. I've tried them with him anyway, in the past, hoping that the good food would be enough. This did not go over well. The man loves his free fried noodles and he doesn't mind eating crappy Chinese to get it.

Sooooo that being said, I would love some suggestions of restaurants with great food that serve the noodles! Any thoughts? I never get to Chinatown anymore and don't want to waste an experience on a subpar place. On the other hand, he's my dad and I want him to be happy. Help me, Chowhound!!

The Best Thing You Ever Ate: New Orleans

Agreed!! What a perfect example of the soul of NOLA. I love this story!

Help! I forgot to plug in my crockpot last night [moved from Home Cooking]

I'm so ashamed of myseld... total rookie mistake. I prepped a soup last night by sauteeing up a few pieces of chopped bacon, added dried white beans, water, chopped carrots & celery, and cabbage. Turned it on at 11pm and didn't realize that it wasn't plugged in. I have a limited sense of smell, so I didn't realize that it wasn't cooking until about 10am this morning.

I'm inclined to throw it all out, but thought I'd get the opinion from you all. Chuck it or turn it on and eat it tonight?
