what happened to Fox & Obel??

Yes, I was referring to the restaurants that were located in the North Pier building, not F&O.

What kind of segment are they trying to serve? Upscale and sophisticated. I'm amazed F&O has stayed open as long as it has. Chicago has come along way from being a Cowtown, but I'm still not sure we have enough wealthy people to sustain F&O. I read one article quite awhile back that said it's a magnet for ex-New Yorkers who want their NY "fix." I'm sure NYC has many stores of this caliber--and can support them successfully. The location is problematic. Restaurants in North Pier closed when parking went through the roof. How can you expect people to pay $10 for lunch and $20+ for parking?" And a lot of the street traffic consists of tourists heading for Navy Pier, not neighborhood people on shopping runs. Last Saturday, I noticed they did not have the "free Valet" sign in front of the store, so I wonder if they've dropped that convenience?

I hope it continues. Meanwhile, I've been reading the posts to see which items people buy there. I'm looking for recommendations, so please spill....

(I've been buying Cotswald cheese, raisin apricot bread, multi-grain mini-baguettes, coconut cream tarts, oatmeal raisin cookies, African tea, turkey meatballs, and beef meatballs. The broccoli rabe is way too salty for me. I wish they had more veggies, which I hate, but will eat if prepared well.

Just returned from Fox and Obel, where I had a delicious omelet breakfast and picked up some groceries. I had been to F&O about a year ago and the place was a sad store with empty shelves. I stayed away for almost a year, but recently returned in search of some specialty items. It has rebounded nicely, although recent news reports say the store has been strggling to pay its rent. The bakery, deli counters, shelves and cheese section are nicely stocked. It is such a treat to shop there. Here's the thing: it was 10:30 a.m. on a Saturday and there were maybe 8 customers in the entire store. The cafe, while full, was not crowded. (two blocks away, Yolk Restaurant was jammed)
