Gramercy Tavern-Lunch Tasting

I've got to agree, I thought that Bouley, while very good, seemed off. Quite a few dishes came out lukewarm which were not supposed to be served like that, so maybe more of a service issue? Agreed on the service, seemed a bit aloof, Del Posto seemed much nicer,

Gramercy Tavern-Lunch Tasting

Anyone done the lunch tasting at Gramercy Tavern? It gets great reviews on Yelp, and I've heard good things about the restaruant, but curious for a review on the lunch tasting specifically? It's $58 for 5 courses, guessing each course is fairly small, or is one of them considered the "entree"?

Other suggestions welcomed, but we're looking for a tasting menu in particular, budget $150 for 2 tax and tip included($60 pp maximum before tax and tip), no alchohol. We've done Del Posto, Bouley, and Esca(Dinner) in the past, and have loved all of them.

Thanks!

Saravannas?

Anyone here have experience with Saravanna Bhavan on 26th and lex? Vegetarian friend is in town, and looking for an inexpensive place to go thats something a little different from the typical veggie fare. Friend has never had south indian, but is an adventurous eater who is always willing to try something new.

Where would you go for a great birthday lunch?

Looking for suggestions for a fantastic birthday lunch in NYC. Last meal was Del Posto for lunch and that was excellent. Budget is $200 for 2 tip and tax included, no alcohol. However, that is pushing it a little bit, so $150 would be much better. So, with that in mind, you're celebrating a great friends birthday, where do you take her?

Bouley Favorites?

We just returned from a WONDERFUL lunch at Bouley yesterday, and all I can say is that for what they are charging, what they are putting out is amazing.

The menu has changed significantly from what is here*, with some of the ame dishes, but probaly about half of them are new. All were very good to excellent.

Will write up a full review soon, but it was a wonderful experience.

Thanks for all of your help and recommendations in making this a success!

(*the tasting menu is now $55, but there was not an extra course added on.)

Birthday Dinner THIS FRIDAY!

We like something a little bit newer and more edgy. Small plates are a +, but not required. We have a tenative reservation at bar room for friday night but wondering what else migth be out there that we dont know about.

Also, does anyone have any experience with Bouley for lunch? The $45 lunch menu looks like a great menu and wonderful value. there are currently no tables avalible, but hoping for a last minute cancellation.

I am guessing there are no other tasting menus on saturday lunch that would fit out budget?

Thanks for all of your help so far.

Birthday Dinner THIS FRIDAY!

Another possibility is to have a quite casual dinner on the actual day(friday), and then go for a fancy lunch on saturday. I think this may be more in our budget, but not sure if we could get a reservation for anywhere nice on saturday.

Birthday Dinner THIS FRIDAY!

Ok, I know this is so last minute, and might have difficulty getting a reservation, but our birthday plans for Friday night fell through and now we have to find somewhere else. Need a party of 2, around 7:00 PM. Any type of cuisine is good, but looking for something a bit more special, as this is a birthday dinner. We are both foodie types, and eat anything except raw fish(no sushi bars). We would like to keep it around $130-150 for 2 for dinner, tax and tip all included. we dont drink, and so will not be ordering wine or cocktails. if we really have to we can go up to $200 total, but it would have to be really perfect.

So fire away with your favorite birthday spots!

Nice Dinner

We are staying with a friend on Newberry Street

We live in the NYC area so do alot of fine dining there. We have done alot fo michelin starred places in nyc, so we are looking for something special. We did a wonderful dinner at Eleven Madison Park in NYC, but that is way over budget.......

We really are open to any type of cuisine. The one thing we need to avoid is raw fish.......

Lunch deals

Reading the boards, I have noticed a number of places do a lunch deal that is much ,ore reasonable than dinner( bouley, Tocqueville, .......) . What lunch deals do you think are the best in the city for value and quality? This would be for a birthday lunch. Willing to spend $35-50 per person plus tax, tip and drinks.......

Thanks for your help!

Where to go for a reasonable lunch?

I am going to be in NYC with two friends for the day and have been trying to decide where to go to lunch. Open to traveling all over manhattan. we are big foodies and have very wide pallettes so any style would be good. we are looking for a fine dining typoe of place.

Here is the problem. I am trying to spend less than $100 all in(with tax and tip) for our lunch for 3.

does a good fine dining lunch exist for that price or do i have to go higher?

thanks so much for your help.....
