Awesome Fish & Chips at O'Neals

Living in New England all of my life I am a bit picky when it comes to Fish & Chips, I don't eat it often but when I do I want a good peice of fesh fish with a nice crunchy batter and a good portion of chips or fries.

I had earned a gift certificate on Survey.com and knew that i was headed down to Salem, MA to visit my son for the day so I typed in Salem, MA on Resturant.com and up came O'Neals on Washington Street, I printed the certificate and away I went. I was in the mood for some good Irish Pub food.

When we arrived we were the only guests at the time, they had just opened for lunch so I knew everything we ordered woild be nice and hot. The atmosphere was very pleasant, vey Irish pub, open, spacious, and clean. Our server came over to greet us with a huge smile and left us to look at the menue which I found just to be the tight size and not over whelming. she did have to come back twice because we could not make up our mind, and I finally went for what I acutally went is for the Fish & Chips and my son settled on the Sheppards Pie. Well. when our food came, let me tell you before I even tried it I was impressed; there were two huge (3x5) peices of fish on my plate that were just smiling back at me, a nice portion of chips (steak fries) and a nice size portion of cold slaw. My sons Sheppard Pie was quite large as well, he dug in and this stupid smile came to his face, I asked him how it was and the smile got bigger, then I asked for a bite and got a very quick NO! Do I need to say more? My fish was very hot so it took me a minute or two to finally tackel it (no punn intended). Once I took a bite OMG I was in heaven, finally I found a pub that knows the meaning of "Fish" & Chips. I ate everything but just could not get the last two bites in...yup, I took them home, and yes they were just a good the next day! I never did get a bite of my sons Sheppard Pie, he ate the whole thing! And wiped the plate with his bread!

Now the bill..... Ok, as I said I had a gift certificate and there was a minimum purchase of 35.00 to use the certificate, not too bad. The one thing that I did not like was the 18% Gratuity tacked on to the bill, nothing bugs me more than a forced tip...bad business pratice in my eyes. Anyway, I didn't think that we had ordered enough to cover the bill so I ordered an order of both Buffalo and Honey BBQ Wings for us to share; which we never got to eat by the way because we were so full. My son also asked if he could order the Angus Burger for his Girlfriend to take home to her, and being the great mom I am said ok. well, when I got my bill I almost fell out of my seat! the total bill came to 79.00 and change! OUCH! When I broke it down the cost of the meal was about 25.00 per person but, we actually got 6 meals because we took the wings home, had fries to spare to go with the wings and my sons girlfriend actually got 2 meals out of the burger because it was so big she was able to split it.

All in all, we had a fantastic experience and will deffinately return, one thing I would love to see on the menu though is a nice home made "Fish Chowder", it is an Irish Pub after all.... ;0)

I highly reccoment O'Neals to anyone looking for a great Irish Pub meal, just don't go overboard like we did.

Grande Mexico, Plaistow, NH: anyone been?

I had the Chicken Chimmichunga with toro sauce, rice and beans. the Chimmichungs was very fresh and the toro sauce really made it pop. I was a bit learey about the toro sauce because i had never had it before and did not know what it was. When i asked our watress about it she offered me a sample to try; I was vey impressed. when I tried it it was very good with a hint of cinnamon, I was willing to give it a try and was glad I did, I really enjoyed it it, it was different. I just wish the Chimmichunga was a bit bigger though, I honestly could have eaten two. I did pour the toro sauce over my rice as well, it gave it a nice flavor. having the waitress re-filled my glas without asking was quite a suprise, I can't even tell you how many times I have sat shaking my glass in the air hoping someone (my watress) would notice. We went on a Friday night about 6pm, they were half full and not too over busy. I felt that the greeter in full bright Mexican dress was a little much.

Boomer, you may want to go back and try it again, they really worked the kinks out. I found the service very good. Our waitress brought me a new glass of my drink before I was even done with it.

My husband and I finally got a chance to try it out this past Friday night. I was fantastic! the food is very, very fresh, the service was great and the decore was very pleasant. It was nice not to have pizza or burgers for once! If you like fresh cooked Mexican this little well kept secret is going to blow you away!
