Real, Traditional Club Sandwich in LA?
Astro's in Silver Lake has one as you described.
Mexicali Taco Co is gone
Servog, I just noticed that their name is not written correctly on the Place page. I believe it is Mexicali & Taco Co. .
Mexicali Taco & Co. is back!
You can satiate your vampiro cravings and get your fix of Mexicali Taco and Co. once again. They are currently in the alley (follow the smell) at 1820 industrial St. in the arts district, Thurs- Sat 6-10pm.
Check their twitter page for updates: http://twitter.com/#!/mexicalitacoco
Mexicali Taco Co is gone
Thank you so much Servorg. I was stumped at trying to change their status from closed. I will put up a post about being "reopened".

Al & Bea's Report: My quest for a NorCal style burrito...
The best mission burrito's tortilla's are not steamed but grilled. Big chunks of real avocado are used and the ingredients for the most part are flavorful. The burrito is wrapped tightly in foil so you have the option of chomping on it to-go. Yes, it is Chipotle style service where you get to pick the ingredients you want, what is not replicated is the bland flavor. LA folk will continue to deride this burrito, but I will valiantly continue to defend it! : )

I forgot about Homegirl as well! Find it hard to get there due to the hours they are open, they tried the dinner hours but no longer, right?
I was focused on Brian J. stating he missed the burrito from Green Chili in SF. As a transplant from the Bay Area as well, I know to well finding the burrito like you love in SF dilemma which L.A. folk will never get! : )
Best Puerto Rican Resturant in LA????
New Puerto Rican restaurant alert! Yesterday I was driving near my work and saw a Puerto Rican flag on a store front and discovered it was a restaurant that had just opened a couple of weeks ago. "La Puma Rosa" is in a tiny storefront with a sliver of space for a couple of tables. Grabbed a to go menu. It is on Wilmington, a couple of blocks up from Imperial Hwy in Watts (left menu at work so no address right now) , yes not the best of neighborhoods. Ok, a really bad neighborhood couched between two housing projects. I will definitely check it out soon. The proprietor was very friendly and stated they were the real deal and family owned.
Artisanal Food Festival This Weekend Downtown
I was there at 3 pm and it was the perfect amount of people to be able to enjoy yourself. Forgot to mention above what my favorite beverage was- Coffee ice cubes in a Mexican Coke. Zing!

Sorry for being so negative! Thank you for continuing the search!

Concur on the bacon being absolutely delicious, the cajun was my favorite as well. That was their first foray into selling bacon. The13 buck price tag (bacon and rub) stopped me from buying it though. Did buy some pesto and curry sauce that was more attune to my budget. Also brought home a ton of herb sprigs that they were being given away for free.

Give up now on finding any kind of burrito that will satisfy your burrito craving, there are none that will match what you are looking for here. One more place that you might add of to try list is CaCao Mexicatessen in Eagle Rock.
MOST OUTSTANDING BURRITOS IN LOS ANGELES AREA
As a bay area transplant as well, I concur with the La Taquiza rec as a good sub for that specific craving.
is Vito's on La Cienega an Eat in or Take out Type of place?
I have to respectfully disagree with it being over hyped, as I think Vito's offers up some damn good pizza.
I have done a far share of research to find good pizza in L.A. and Vito's is one of the top ones.
I am curious as to what you think is good pizza here, as I am always searching! : )
Mozza 2 Go ~ Delivery and Take Out
I stopped in today mid afternoon and ordered a pizza, salad and budino. At the time I was the only one in there ordering and was told to come back in half an hour, when I came back there were several more people making and picking up orders, hope it stays this hassle free! Agree that the attendants were very nice and helpful. Wondered why the big side room was closed off? Pizza was a bit over cooked, but held up pretty well even after reheating. Thank god I do not live close by as I would be stopping in for budino's to go way more often than I need to! To expensive for a regular rotation as a pizza take out option, but nice to be able to stop in when the craving hits and for special occasions, and now that I have 2 go menu in hand without the wait.

Puerto Barrios: tasty but slow Guatamalan
According to the contentious LA Times mapping of neighborhoods Puerto Barrios is in Atwater-

I would agree with this.
I drove by here last Sunday afternoon and noticed the parking lot was full...
Anyone know what restaurant is coming in the old Tiger Lilly space in Los Feliz?
It was across the street from Sarno's/Vermont. I am confused thought it had split in half into a french resto (not sure if that is still there) and now there is a Cuban place, or did it take over the french space? Sorry, no help here!
Soul Folks Cafe ??? what's the deal??

what would you like to see open in silver lake/echo park?
Have yet to stop by there, thanks for the report. Good to hear they're rolling out their own tortillas. The last time I went to taco zone I was very disappointed with their carne asada tacos. Been thinking of hunting the Kogi truck down..what is the sauce they use?
Brownies and Just Brownies
Thanks for the heads up...but I am full on fearful of finding good brownies near by!
Is there a better sandwich place than Bay Cities???
Second Artisan Cheese Gallery for a change in pace. I am addicted to the pickles. Off topic, but does anyone know where I can find Tony Packos pickles more central to LA, or a comparable pickle?
what would you like to see open in silver lake/echo park?
Has any one else noticed, been to, the NEW taco place on Sunset Blvd, a bit south (if going west on the right hand side) of Micheltorena?
At one point I am pretty sure it was an evangelical (?) latino church that served up food only for it's parishoners.
There is now a big banner there announcing "Tacos". Gonna try to make it out there soon to see if SL indeed has a new taco spot...
Has anyone tried the Mexican restaurant at the 101/Silverlake exit?
It is not Mexican, but Ecuardorian- "El Caserio". Do a search here and you will find some favorable reviews...
Best "sit-down" Mexican restaurants - Eagle Rock, Highland Park, Pasadena
Agree that Tommy's equals El Coyote et al. here in LA. and that these are examples of bad cal-mex food and NOT good mexican food...
You will find good Mexican food elswhere in both LA and Bay Area...
Square One AGAIN: Better and Better!
Thanks Will for the nice report...
I just drove by there today and thought about the food I had had there and the fact that I need to get back there soon...
Has anyone heard of the new restaurant, Fifteen, in Echo Park?
Not rumors-http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/dailydish/2008/11/15-in-echo-park.html
Anyone else frustrated by LA Mill?
Totally agree with you katkoupai- pretentiousness, poor service, and high prices, plus I prefer Intelligentsia's clover coffee. I gave up going there, pretty much ignored as a single person walking in the door to get a table and than serverd, have walked out twice and it had not been that busy...
Whatever happened to Coffee Table closing for a long while because of that big development they were going to build? Guess with economy as it is, that projected died?
Domenico Restaurant Silverlake????
Nope, but would like to know. Where are they going to be located?
15 in Echo Park: Still open?
They raised the 3 course price to 19 bucks awhile back.
The closing is pretty darn close to the air date of the new season of "Top Chef", the chef at "15" is one of the contenders...
