Making Burrata at Home
After enjoying some lovely fresh burrata from our local cheese shop today, I decided that I needed a little bit more of that creamy cheesy heaven in my life. But rather than pay $5 for a little quarter-pound piece, I could make it on my own (right?)... I have done a little searching on what is required, but I'm curious to find out if anyone here has actually tried. From what I've seen, the steps seem pretty straight-forward, leaving me suspicious. If it's so simple, why haven't I heard of more folks making burrata at home?
Also, if anyone knows about a West Coast purveyor of fine mozzarella curd, I would be especially grateful.

Saturday Breakfast/Brunch in Pasadena
Now that you mention it, I do remember the service being a little less-than-snappy as well. My apologies!!
While re-visiting the topic, I also wanted to toss out Heirloom as an option. That's just down the street at Mission and Meridian. I've always found the service really fast and the breakfasts pretty yummy. Their quiches are especially nice.

Saturday Breakfast/Brunch in Pasadena
I have loved the breakfast and Mike and Anne's on Mission St. in South Pasadena. They have wonderful cornmeal pancakes with caramelized blueberries (and regular old buttermilk, of course) and delicious apple wood-smoked bacon. Highly recommended.

Coming to Larchmont Village for dinner, any recs?
Although I haven't been to Girasole since last fall, I remember they had a fantastic housemade butternut squash ravioli that could really compete flavor-wise with their wonderful osso bucco. It's a charming spot, and the food reflects a certain kind of consideration that's unusual for a place with such good prices. Definitely recommended!!

Whats your favorite Tea Cafe? Why?
Elixir is gone, and in it's place is the Tea Garden. I had a light lunch and tea there last week. They have food from the macrobiotic M Cafe delivered, so your lunch looks like it came out of one of those plastic salad containers. Nonetheless, the seared tuna salad I had was delicious. (In fact, I have thought about going and getting one for lunch almost every day since...) They had a great selection of rooibos, green and white teas, but scant options for a lot of herbal teas that one might find down the street at Urth. The teas they carry are very high quality and arrive at your table "perfectly steeped" (that's what our server said, which seemed pretty accurate). As Elixir did, they also offer "tonics" to remedy many ailments, including hangover cures, libido enhancers, etc. for around ten bucks a pop. The whole place now feels much more transcendental/spiritualist with afternoon tarot readings and meditation music playing. Though I tend to get annoyed by that stuff, I was not bothered by it...

Best tasting menu under $100 per person
Cafe Pinot in downtown has a wonderful 5 course tasting menu which runs between $75 and $85 last time I had it.
