I am an Administrative Assistant in the US looking to host a business dinner for 40-50 people in central London. I've had really amazing luck using the Chowhound board for similar suggestions in Amsterdam & Sydney so I'm hoping to find an equally amazing spot in London. Can anyone recommend a business-appropriate restaurant with a large private dining area (or a semi-small restaurant that might be willing to close for the night)? Ethnic food or more "traditional" British fare welcome.
I am looking for mid-range pricing and atmosphere (a 40 GBP set menu would be ideal). We will bus everyone from LHR so I am pretty open in terms of neighborhoods.
I just want to drop a quick note to thank everyone for their suggestions for Amsterdam. We ended up having a very successful dinner at Brasserie Harkema. The food was fantastic although I should mention that they changed the pre-arranged menu on us without notifying me first. Also, when I arrived they had us set up in the main dining room rather than a private room as agreed. Thankfully I went by to check on things a few hours before the event so they were able to scramble and set up the private room on time. I also had an issue with the number of wait staff as we had 50 people and only two waiters but they did add a waiter once I talked to the manager. Again, the quality of the food made up for all of the administrative challenges!
We had a less formal dinner for a group of 10 the following night so I also had a chance to check out Cafe in De Waag. The food there was also delicious (though not as good as Harkema) but their staff somehow let my boss walk out the door only having paid for two of the 10 meals and the drinks!
Also, I want to give a "shout out" to Bar Italia. We were directed there for a small group dinner the night before our meeting and the food was amazing. I was lucky enough to be in Amsterdam during peak asparagus season and their Fish & Asparagus special was drool-worthy. It was probably my faviorte meal in Amsterdam and the best Italian I've had in a year anywhere. It is important to note that they make you pre-order when you have a group of 10+
Thanks for everyone who commented for helping make my meeting a success!
Thank you hvdmeeberg! We actually decided on Brasserie Harkema however we haven't yet finalized our contract as they've yet to send me a photo of their private room. From looking at the pictures online, it seems like a very cafeteria-like atmosphere, but the more I look around, the more that seems typical of Amsterdam. Have you seen their private room, by chance?
At the end of the day, we decided that good food tops atmosphere so I think that's where we will go.
Thanks again for your advice.
I've been charged with planning a dinner for 50 people in Amsterdam this May. I am looking for recommendations for delicious restaurants that may be able to accomodate such a large group. Any suggestions, particularly near the Radisson Blu, would be greatly appreciated!
