Any good Mexican food in Silver Lake?
When did Alegria become adamantly anti-byob? It's been byob since day 1.
Atwater Village Farm is open for business
I strolled in there last weekend to check it out. It still seems a little sparse, but they do have some interesting products. Some nice selections of flours for baking. The pricing is a bit high, like $12+ for a medium jar of pickles. I was wishing for more produce. I hope they survive, but something tells me, this model will not weather the economic storm.

I think the choices are obvious. I copied Fidelixi and didn't pay strict attention. Sorry.

Any good French restaurants in LA?
I'm not a fan of Cafe Beaujolais. Once the Ulmers (original owners) sold it, it seems to have declined somewhat, moreso with the front of house. I encourage you to visit Saint Amor in Culver City. The feel and ambiance are not very Balthazar, but this should not discourage you as the food is excelent bistro cuisine, served with enthusiasm and competence.

Biodynamic and Natural Wines in LA
At WHWC, I can recommend the Allimant-Laugner Cremant Rose, while not realy a natural wine, it is quite tastey. For natural sparkling consider Sparkling Loires (usually from Vovray) from Pinon, Chidaine or Huet. These wines should be readily availabe in the LA market. If you want to up the ante and go to Champagnes, consider Larmandier-Bernier, Cedric Bouchard, Francis Boulard, Georges Laval or Franck Pascal. Again, with the right search you can find these wines usually in the LA/OC area.

I E SUPERMARKETS : THERE'S A NEW KING IN TOWN!
I worry about the quality of meat, fish and produce from these places. The additives, hormones, anti biotics, pesticides, etc...leave me buying only the cheap liquor, sparkling water and other packaged items.

Ink. To those who've been, is it worth the effort?
I was told, they are looking at beginning Omakase in Dec. It would require MV to move from the line to the Omakase area, leaving the line to his sous chef.

What DGM is preferred? The one off Wilshire in the courtyard (Berendo) or the 8th St location? Are they related?
For the Animal and Ludo fans...
I get the intent and the fight is a noble cause. I also love FG, but 8 courses is just overboard imho. I also don't get the pricing. Even with wine, I'd find it hard to persevere past course 3 or 4.
My favorite Sushi Hole in the wall
In Alhambra/San Marino, we like Z Sushi. It's been a while, but I hope it's still as good and that Toshi san is still there.

Barbrix, Palate, Noir or... for my birthday dinner
My wine group had dinner last Sunday at Elements. My second visit for dinner. I have to say the food was fantastic. Very creative and well executed. I would recommend it.
Mignon, in downtown LA
Lackluster and uninspired is hardly what I would use to describe Santo's wine list. He has championed wines from the "road less traveled" set. If one prefers to drink generic wines, I would avoid Mignon. If you however are interested in Hungarian Furmint, Croatian Plavic Mali or Slovinian Ranina, I recommend you high-tail it over there or Bacaro.

"Note that you have to bring your own booze to Ruen..."
This is not the case anymore. They have a w&b license as of last fall '10, though the selection is very limited.

Dapuma asks, "What kind of wine's stand up to their heavier cooking? Or am i best sticking with beer"
Talk to your server. The staff should be versed in the drink menu. The managers also know the list quite well and could certainly offer suggestions. The hamachi is delicate yet the sauce is bold, flavored in a Thai style dressing. Consider a lower acid white (Riesling or something from Alto Adige). Foie gras needs something with big fruit and a touch of sweet (but can also be high acidity). The pigs ear is a spicy dish, beer would probably do the trick. In any case, it's a bit tricky to find suitable pairings using only one selection. If you are with a group, perhaps a few carafes could be shared.

We had:
pig's ears - very good
hamachi tosdada - great
cod, creamed spinach, brown butter - very good
octopus & chorizo - not so great
cavatelli, lamb sausage, pea tendrils, croutons-very good
They messed up our resv. having us down for a different night. No big deal-we sat at the bar. No gestures offered. Service was good. I would return but not in any hurry.

Thank you for your great recs. Very helpful. I fell well armed.
Carter: I have a Mavasia Secco from Bermejos (Canaray Islands) & a Pegau Res lined up. I scratched the Coenobium as I learned it's on their list (a great Italian white from Lazio).

Never been, but I'm remedying that tomorrow. Tell me what you like? Unfortunately, their website doesn't offer current menus.

Need a Mexican restaurant in the valley near CSUN
The place (full service) should have well made food (fresh ingredients and traditional), be clean and comfortable for 6 adults and offer, at a minimum, beer & wine. It should be near CSUN at the north end of the valley to the 101 Fwy. Nothing west of Tampa or east of Balboa.
I have a recommendation for Salsa and Beer which is in the right area. Any comments on this one?
All other recs are appreciated.
-TIA-
