Late Night Sea Bright / Highlands

They had a food truck that used to cook pizzas and a few items but the town made them stop for some reason.

Simko's - Brielle

Last time i was there they served me a hockey puck burger. It was so well done I didn't even eat half of it and just ate the bacon. That place has changed hands a few times but I think I have only been to it once under simko name. I would go back to try it again if in the area but I'm in no rush lol. I'd go to captain eds or i hear good things about shipwreck

yeah I remember this too mark. It is a mad house during lunch hours. I went around 6:30 this time. Next time I am going to try a fresh mozz, roasted pepper and parma prosciutto. That is what the manager recommended. He says the parma is where it's at. At over 20 a pound for parma I am sure it will boost the price of sub. I am curious to see how much it will run.

Mr Bingley, it is definitely not at bottle king...checked.

NJcraftbeer, the maine beer company Mo is the same way. It sells out pretty much in a day or two. Try it out if you haven't...awesome brew if you like pales

I don't care for yelp. I find that the best food is often where great ratings are not. Yelp folks seem to be all about being popular and making friends.

I think joon summed it up with his "yum factor"

I dont mind paying for delicious food. I just want it to be worth it.

As for sals....i can assure you that the Roma is a solid sub

I hope neils comes back one day.

Anyone know what twin light tap house mark is doing? I heard he was trying to open a red bank spot a while back. Mark = cool dude

Mad hatter does not cook food now. In fact, you have to drink outside. The inside is not open from sandy.

Wow I forgot this....

Went to sals in shrewsbury and had the Roma......outrageously good sub with top notch Brooklyn bread. I was talking to the manager there about bread and he agreed with that th bread makes the sub....cool guy.

Oceanview today folks...

Just got done polishing off a fried chicken cutlet, roasted pepper and fresh moz sub with balsamic....so good. I haven't had one in ages. Go try one....trust me :)

They seems to have gotten smaller but the flavor is there.

Try Kane brewing in ocean too....very good beer.

I will have to try that Eight point IPA

Does any one know any central nj places that carry jolly pumpkin beers? Spirits in middletown used to and the store in west long branch next to foodtown did as well. It's a brewery, not a pumpkin beer and they specialize in sours.

JR, here is what an average korean BBQ table looks like. Meat is cooked traditionally over charcoal

When you leave you smell like smoke : )

Sea Bright Pizza - are they reopening?

I had the eggplant and one grandma slice. 4 per slice for me. I guess they liked me LOL (this was a few weeks ago and I posted a comment on here.)

CKE25, if you want a good pizza try chiafullos in navesink but ask for "think and crispy." Their "regular" pie is not the greatest IMO but the thin one made to order is top notch. The issue is you have to eat it right out of the oven piping hot...really good. So you can eat it right inside or if you dare, bring it over to the bar next door and check out some salty locals at the Gateway bar. They allow you to bring in food and eat it at the bar. In fact, they encourage it.

Red Bank Redux

Red bank could use a korean bbq place....get that town smelling like charcoal.

JR, I purposely left it out to joke around and leave you salivating ; )

It was at Charley's in Orlando...amazing piece of beef (not cheap but worth it.) I really don't buy into the "wagyu" thing as I think it is a marketing gimmick here, but this steak was outrageous. I have had the high grade kobe in japan and nothing here comes close but this ribeye was about as good as it can get. (old homestead has japanese kobe but I have not tried it yet.) Also, Bones in Atlanta I recently hit and their ribeye is top ten in the country I would say.

Mr Bingley, I understand what you are saying. I have become way too critical and have been disappointed way too many times. For this reason I don't mind paying a premium for truly awesome steaks. It can be an expensive hobby. We need to make a steak thread LOL

I hear you JR. There is nothing like a properly done steakhouse steak. I just had an epic Greg Norman Wagyu ribeye the other day cooked over wood....amazing! I could never get a steak charred like this at home

yeah joon, its on my list of "if I am near red bank and someone else is paying" I will try it. To me red bank is a town to get cheaper stuff like mexican food. The more expensive places don't deliver for my dollar. Hopefully that outlook changes soon. I want to try Via45 still.

If I recall correctly the "steak" at temple is like 40 bucks?

*nicholas is not included in my outlook. that is technically in middletown ; )

seriously

Temple was packed sat night as I walked the "strip"

I still want to try that place even with all the lackluster things I read on here about it.

Wow, I wonder why they didn't research the name before hand. Maybe they will change it before it opens. SEO will definitely not be great for his place with one named taka so close. Then again, it is his 5th restaurant so he might know something I don't

PS, I tried the red bank bistro recently. I have to do a writeup soon when I have some time.

I am not sure if anyone posted this yet but Taka is opening up where the old Broadway grill used to be.

A few updates...

I finally tried the italian hotdog at Mr Pizza slice....not impressed. It was not bad but a chili cheese dog at windmill will destroy this thing. For 7 bucks I left underwhelmed.

Mac Attack came through with their buffalo chicken mac n cheese....good stuff and I will be back.

Cheese steak from Pacinis was weak. I can't figure out why only a few places in this county can make a decent cheesesteak.

This place was jumping on sat night. Has anyone been?

40th Birthday dinner - fun, not too expensive, central jersey

I still have not tried 3 but 2 in newark is great. The big room upstairs is party central...highly recommend it.

places that cook with wood/charcoal

I tried long branch BBQ yesterday (that is the name of the restaurant on broadway.) I got the rib and chicken platter for 14.00. It was pretty darn good. It literally weighed over 4lbs I would say, maybe 5...lots of rice but plenty of meat. I can get three meals out of this thing. You get a big tray similar to Port Chop. There isn't a person in there speaking english so know that going in.

New Microbrewery to open in Atlantic Highlands

Cool, I wish them luck. I predict this will be a permanent fixture there for many years. This won't be a "cheap" place to eat and drink but I predict the food will be good, if not great bar food.

I hit cafe28 for the first time. This is a cool little place. I would love to see some people try it and report back.

I had the chicken Cairo. For 7.50 this was a really tasty dish and the proprietor Mohammad is a dedicated and interesting guy.

He will definitely talk food if you want. He was getting all technical into the art of this dish and how the flavors have to meld together (not have the Tzatziki overpower it.) I am definitely going to try a few more things.

Fried Chicken

I would be willing to bet the great flavor comes from all the pork they fry in the oil. I'm a big fan of the Ming Ying wings in long branch.
