Marzipan rugelach - in NYC?

Does anyone know whether the rugelach from Marzipan Bakery in Jerusalem are sold anywhere in NYC or can be delivered here? I have a memory from a few years ago that they'd be sold in Brooklyn, but maybe that memory is really wishful thinking in disguise....

I'm trying to get them for early May. Thanks for your help!

Recipes needed -many allergies!

Roast vegetables - carrots, asparagus or your favorite - with olive oil, salt and pepper

My aunt needed to avoid wheat, soy and corn and she used other grains to bake her own bread. I think spelt and oats were two of the ones she tried. I found two websites that list wheat-free flours, and I noticed a few on the list that wouldn't work, but maybe one or two of the others might work for you:

Hope this helps!

Recent addition in Middlesex County - Eddie's Falafel in South River

I went to Eddie's Falafel a few weeks ago and ordered the shwarma in a lafa with hummus, tehina and Israeli salad inside and harif (spicy sauce) on the side. I really enjoyed the shwarma - the meat was well spiced and the lafa itself was good quality.

Two issues: (1) When we walked in, it was mid-afternoon (not a regular meal time) and you could tell they had just cleaned and I didn't want to smell that while I ate. I had already been considering whether to eat there or take my food to go, and that decided it for me. (2) I asked for pickles and was really surprised to hear that they were out. Thankfully when we got home, I had a can of Israeli pickles in the pantry.

I enjoyed my dinner and would go back, probably again for takeout and if I can get there in time, their lunch special.

Has anyone else tried it yet?

Sunday Brunch in Manhattan

How many people will be there?

I've been to Hummus Place on the UWS several times and I always leave happy. They have three locations in Manhattan (supervised by UKS). My favorites are the shakshuka halumi and labane. On Sundays you'll be able to order from their brunch menu or the regular menu. I'm not sure about the other locations, but the UWS Hummus Place is small, so if you have a bigger group you'd probably want to go elsewhere. Has anyone been to their other locations?

http://www.hummusplace.com/

If your group is larger, I'd suggest My Most Favorite Food on the UWS because it has a bigger dining area and I liked the food (supervised by OK). If you're hungry don't get the pancakes because they're tiny.

I've never gotten take out, only eaten there, but I love Hummus Place. Everything I've had there is delicious - hummus, shakshuka, labane, salads...

Meat cocktail party?

LittleWave, when is your party? Have you started narrowing down what you'll be making? I've considered hosting a cocktail party on a smaller scale and I'd love to hear what you decide and how it turns out.

Of the four Highland Park restaurants, I most often choose Park Place. My favorites are the chili burger, hot bites (boneless chicken in spicy sauce, like fire poppers) and buffalo wings. One thing I would not order again is their soup which seemed like it was made from a mix with a few added veggies/noodles. I wish they would add a few vegetables to their menu, especially ones that aren't deep fried (though the onion flower is delicious).

Sliders - either burger or pulled brisket with slaw - brisket might be easier to do in advance

I also like The Orchid but I'd recommend it for takeout only. We ate at the restaurant once and it was an awkward space.

Lin's in Manville was actually the first place to come to my mind, but I checked and it's in Somerset County. They deliver to the New Brunswick/Highland Park area and possibly other areas of Middlesex County if you order enough.

For kosher Chinese food in the area you mentioned, I'd suggest Kosher Chinese Express in Manalapan. You order at the counter and they have a few tables but it seems setup mostly for takeout.

Best Dairy Restaurant in Teaneck?

Of all the dairy restaurants I've tried in Teaneck, the only one I'd recommend is Mocha Bleu. Everything we tried was yummy and very fresh. I've only been there once though and sat outside, so maybe someone else can tell you about the inside seating area and the party room (mentioned on their website).

Etc. Updates?

Amazing! I think our favorites were the gnocchi with beef cheek and mushrooms, short ribs and rib eye. We were there with a large group of about 25 and were ordering off a set three course party menu. The food and service were both wonderful. This was in March, not sure if that's recent enough for you.

MochaBleu in Teaneck

I tried Mocha Bleu for the first time recently, also on a Sunday during the nine days. We sat outside in the patio area and our waiter was helpful and funny. I tried the Mediterranean stromboli and the caprese panini, both were delicious. Everyone was very happy with their food and commented on the fresh ingredients. One thing that surprised me was that the bakery items are pareve. I was really hoping that in a dairy restaurant they'd be using butter, but no such luck. The milkshakes are the one actually dairy dessert - we got the chocolate one, which I would have preferred without the chocolate chunks, but my husband happily finished it. I would definitely return!

Dairy Shabbat Lunch

Quiche with your choice of vegetables and cheese should reheat well and can also be served cold or room temperature. One combination I like is spinach, mushrooms, feta and cheddar, but there are so many options.

Best Indian in Edison or thereabouts

Anne, what is the name of the restaurant you're talking about? What town is it in? Do you just ask for "special bread" or does it have a name? Thanks!

Best Indian in Edison or thereabouts

I just got back from dinner at Rasoi in Iselin and I'm so happy that you recommended it because it was wonderful. My husband and I shared the samosa choley and the samosa chat. The chick peas that came with both appetizers were flavorful and they were filling enough that those could have been our dinner, but we also ordered a paneer dish to share. Everything was great and we're excited to go back there.

Thank you, I'm excited to try your suggestions! I'm actually looking for vegetarian Indian dishes, whether it's the entire restaurant or just some of the dishes.

Best Indian in Edison or thereabouts

I tried Moghul earlier this year after reading good reviews of it. The soups were very small and our samosas were served cold. The waiter was nice when we asked for them to be heated up, but even hot they were just ok. I know there are a lot of Indian restaurant options in the Edison area, but I'm not sure what to try next.

Best Pizza around Edison NJ?

Panatieri on Talmadge Road in Edison has really good pizza and I especially like their fresh mozzarella pizza. I also like Highland Pizza, which jethro suggested. It's on Raritan Avenue (Route 27) in Highland Park - good pizza and they deliver.

There's also an online menu if you go to the website that marissaj posted above. I would love to try the bison burger on the lunch menu. I haven't been able to find bison at the butcher near me for a while.

rt 27 changes

I haven't been there myself, but a couple friends went to Shawarma Express last week and told me that the falafel was great.

I noticed another route 27 change - there's an Italian Bistro opening where Zeina was, at the corner of 27 and 5th avenue in Highland Park.

Farm Markets in Middlesex & Monmouth Counties

I like the variety of produce I've found at the Highland Park Farmer's Market. In the past I've gotten tomatoes, corn, berries, peaches, eggplant, basil and more. They'll be open on Fridays starting next week -- June 17th.

I was planning to try the Rutgers Farm Market this year, but from people's posts it sounds like there's not much there. Has anyone been there more recently?

Dish Cafe in Highland Park NJ

My husband and I have been going to Dish Cafe for years and we love it! Two of our favorite dishes are the french toast with fresh strawberries and bananas and the salmon burger. Last night my husband and I noticed that Dish Cafe was open for dinner -- it was the second night that they had extended dinner hours. We could tell that they were training some new dinnertime waitstaff, but the service was attentive and friendly. I ordered pasta with sun-dried tomatoes, broccoli, olives and feta. My husband had Jack Daniels salmon with mashed potatoes and broccoli. Both entrees came with bread, butter and a choice of soup or salad. After years of going there, I still haven't tried any of their desserts because I'm always too full, but maybe next time....
