ISO Rec for Artisanal Ice Cream/ Gelato/ Frozen Yogurt (that ships). I plan to make, from scratch, pawpaw flavored Cholov Yisroel ice cream sourced from Lamer's dairy products. A co-worker of mine has a farm in Indiana that has a few different food items that he grows on it. He should have a couple bucketloads of pawpaws come this late August/early September. I also plan on canning some pawpaw jam and some of the pears that he grows on it, as I did last couple of years. 3 years ago, I canned a most delicious spiced pear jam that used a natural concord wine reduction with a cinnamon stick in each 8 oz jar. BTW, I' a p/t mashgiach for the cRc. Would you or anyone else be interested in some Cholov Yisroel pawpaw ice cream or jam? I could send the ice cream overnight packed in dry ice as a possibility. |

Yes, all 4 places are now owned by Maury Aaron, whose brother publishes The Chicago Jewish News. |

Thanks much for your very quick & useful reply! |

I was wondering if anyone knows of Canned Jackfruit with a hechsher (kosher certification logo) on it and where I can buy it. I plan on using it to make a vegan "Pulled Pork" dish. BTW, I live in the Chicago, IL metro area. |

Where to buy Quinces & Citrons now? Does anyone know where I can buy quinces & citrons here in the Chicago metropolitan area? BTW, I live in the West Rogers Park neighborhood. |

All You Can Buffets in NY/NJ/CT area? I was there a couple of years ago. Sushi was included. Mmmmm, sushi! |
|

Fattier meat makes a better cholent. I prefer lamb to beef. I use lamb stew meat. The potatoes I prefer are the small red potatoes. I use an onion, too. Catsup or BBQ Sauce? Never in my cholent. A Romainian kishke is optional and so are a couple of hard-boiled eggs. Enough black pepper & a touch of onion & garlic powder among other spices. |

From what I understand, they've been open for business since 2 weeks ago. They were reviewed in a closed Facebook group "Chicago Jewish Central" a couple of days ago. |

From what I understand: 1) It's kosher under the cRc, although the cRc is not mentioned in their signage or any observable front window cRc logo I know more, but I reserve the right to remain silent. |

Milt's Kosher BBQ, 3413 N Broadway Chicago? Opening Day is scheduled for Thursday, January 10th, 2013. |

Milt's Kosher BBQ, 3413 N Broadway Chicago? I worked at the chef's old haunt (Spertus) this last Friday. I conversed with one of the chefs there. This chef told me that the chef for Milt's has no pit or BBQ experience and that you need someone who knows about fire pits to be a success. This chef was not very optimistic about Milt's new chef, the former Spertus worker. |

There is a restaurant, Mysore Woodlands (http://www.mysorewoodlands.info/ ), that was kosher certified by a Conservative rabbi. I don't believe that it's still under any certification. The reason that the cRc won't certify the restaurant is that they're open on Shabbos, cooking food. I asked them then why is Dunkin' Donuts open on Shabbos, no? I believe my answer was that DD was only re-heating cooked-already food. Correct me if I'm wrong, anyone, please. This restaurant ranked 11th in over 100+ restaurants in the West Ridge area, which includes WRP. There's a link to an older URL which mentions that it was at one time under "Kosher Certification". Search for the word "kosher" in this article: |

Maybe the person(s) that were laid off due to Kotel Kosher closing can apply for a job at Hungarian Kosher: |

Tech Support, Um, I frequent the Kosher board. At the top of its page is a banner add for "Put More Pork on Your Fork"! In the Kosher board, really?! It's a little tasteless, to say the least, maybe even offensive (to me). Might I suggest some "Specialty Board Switches" fields in your ad database? This would check the ad against these "Specialties" (e.g. Kosher) to verify if the ad fits well with your specialty boards. If they don't fit (switch field is "Off"), then keep trying to find ads that do. |

Milt's Kosher BBQ, 3413 N Broadway Chicago? Looks like they're seeking a chef in Chicago's CraigsList: |

Green vegetable for Shabbos lunch - need suggestions My favorite green vegetable is okra. Okra in a tomato type sauce or make an okra gumbo for variety. Problem is, most people either love okra or just plain hate it. |

My favorite Chinese restaurant, Wing Wan, in West Hempstead, NY, has got to have the tastiest Dim Sum that I've ever had. Every time I go to their restaurant, I order 1 or two (one for later at home). My ex loved their Dim Sum, too. But then again, I've only eaten kosher, so I wouldn't know what a good treif Dim Sum tastes like. It's #8 under "Appetizers" in their "Menu" tab at the URL: |
|

What is the best tasting parve cheese? I use the Cheddar or their Nacho Teese pareve sauces on my vegan Chili Cheese Dogs (using Tofurkey sausages). With (green) onions, it's super yummy indulgent. Their Mozzarella and Cheddar are alright. I've never tried to melt them, though. They all come in a tube like a kishke. It might be difficult to obtain these outside the metro Chicago area. |

Mexikosher-interesting NYT article Actually, the Chicago area had such a take out, called "A Beautiful Taste by Joelle" under /cRc\ supervision. The nice thing about it was that every week was a different cuisine from around the world. You could have a different themed Shabbos meal every week. Too bad they closed up a couple of years ago. |

Um, from what I understand, the sushi bar will be on the Chicago side of Howard St @ the SW corner of California. |

OMG! Bamboo Garden is one of my top favorite kosher restaurants! I wish there was something like it here in Chicago. :-( |
|
|
The best, hands down, kosher vegetarian restaurant that I've ever eaten at has to be Bamboo Garden in Seattle, WA. They even have a web site. |

I think it's Dr. J. Ungar's son-in-law doing it. It might have to do something with the lease of his daughter's dance studio. Feel free to correct me if I'm misinformed. I don't think the location is a winner. Dempster street near the more MO would be a better location, plus there's hardly any parking at this location. The only possible way to make it at this location is to have your sushi sold at other kosher locations, such as Chaim's Kol Tuv & Kol Touhy, and maybe at colleges & universities with a Jewish student base grab & go stores. OCC, UC, & others come to mind. Sushi is a food that is popular with the mostly younger crowd. Older folks aren't into healthy stuff. |

Jetgirly, I have to agree with you about Tofurky Italian Sausage. After having first tried the LightLife dogs, both regular, flavored & Jumbo, the Tofurky Sausages have them beat on both texture and taste. The other 2 Tofurky sausage flavors, Beer Brats & Kielbasa, are good, too. I like to make a Chili Cheese dog with onions using 1 of the 3 Tofurky sausages. I make the chili from 2 15 oz cans of chili beans, a 28 oz can of diced tomatoes, and a packet of chili spice from Whole foods, and top the Tofurky sausage in a bun with the chili, chopped green bulb onions with the cheddar sauce from ChicagoVeganFoods.com. BTW, I keep 100% kosher, too. |

South Side?? Well, Bartlett Food Court & South Campus Dining Commons Kosher Delis are closed until the new UC school year. Do you frequent either of them? |
|
|
Milt's Kosher BBQ, 3413 N Broadway Chicago? The latest unconfirmed rumor is that it will be open on Shabbos for those who place an order & prepay for the order by the prior Thursday and that it will be under Rabbi Lopatin's supervision; not the cRc. |

Reviews of Passover Hotel Programs? Yes, I did. |

Chicgail, I guarantee you that once you try a garlic polish from Romanian Kosher Sausage Company located at the corner of Touhy & Clark Aves in Chicago that you'll never eat anyone else's dogs. It's my favorite by far, but then again, I only eat kosher. |
|
|
Weinsten5, Your statement of "This is true of cows, lambs, deer and any other kosher animal" is simply not correct in the fact that the hind quarter of deer (a/k/a venison) does not need the nerve removed. This is for any kosher mammal that was called a "Chaya" or "undomesticated" animal. For further reading, check out both: |

Chicago - is there anyplace worth a journey? AdinaA, don't forget to stop by Romanian Kosher Sausage Co. on Clark & Touhy for the best deli stuff. My favorites are their garlic polish, roast beef, shoulder pastrami, salami chubs, chopped liver, in fact, the only thing I don't like is their smoked turkey, which is spiced great, but too dry in texture for me. |
