Thanksgiving in Charleston
My girlfriend and I have eaten at a lot of great places in Charleston, but knowing that our choices will be limited on Thanksgiving night we are hoping for some recommendations. We are looking for places you know will be open, perhaps a place you have eaten a T-giving dinner at in the past. We are on a budget so nothing too fancy or expensive, casual or upscale casual attire would be fine. We love seafood but we eat just about anything so no worries there! TIA.
Woody's in North East, MD Short Report
My girlfriend and I went down to NE MD for the weekend about a month ago. We didn't know the area but I saw Woody's online so we thought we'd try that. The first night we went to Woody's, it was so packed we drove right by and ate at the Nauti-Goose down the road on the water. Mistake. The food was edible and that is about it, the waitresses looked about 17 and were impossible to find. The view may have been nice but it was late and dark so a moot point. I would go back here for a drink on the deck perhaps but not for dinner.
The second night we went to Woody's early to avoid the lines, we still waited over an hour. Parking is a bit of a mess but we don't mind walking. We had a couple drinks at the bar then sat down and ordered the mounds of fried seafood we were craving. The service was pretty good and the food did not disappoint. I had a combo of flounder, shrimp, oysters, scallops and catfish and all were tasty. I forget what my girlfriend had but she was satisfied as well. Kind of a tourist trap and my arteries are still mad at me but I will go back if I am ever in town again.
New Restaurant - Vivas - Belmar
I was thinking the same thing, must be Acme...
Any idea what kind of food "Vivas" will be serving?
On a side not I took my girlfriend to OLE about a month ago, her "super rare sushi grade Tuna" was cooked so much it looked like it came out of a Chicken Of The Sea can. I had a seafood Mariscada (I beleive that was the name) dish that the server warned was a bit spicy and very popular. I have to say it was so bland I only ate about half, and no spice to it at all. Our appetizer was great but it left us hanging. We were very disappointed.
River House in Brielle
A little late but we went there a few times. Mostly for drinks. We did have a burger and pizza outside on the deck. I would say both were very tasty (hard to screw up a burger or a plain pie). We looked over the menu and spied on some peoples food. Seems to be decent food but a little too pricey in my opinion. You are definitely paying for the view here. No different than a few other eateries in the area. We also chatted with the fellas running the raw bar. I didn't like how he was packing up the oysters and clams to serve a few days later as they were closed the next day. This was in hot July as well. I asked how long they keep them he said "oh for a while we just keep them on ice". Probably a normal occurrence around here, but I'll pass.
If you ended up going I'd like to hear about it...
