Help with restaurant choice around Sonoma

Thanks for the posts. Our friends picked Farm but greatly appreciate the rec! Agree it looks really good and I think we need to head over to Sonoma to try it out (something a little different sounds good!)

Help with restaurant choice around Sonoma

I live in Yountville and have friends visiting Sonoma in October. We're going to meet for dinner and interested in ideas in/around Sonoma. I've been to Farm several times and am considering it for convenience, but also willing to branch out and try something new.

Any thoughts in Sonoma? I'm not a Girl and the Fig fan but not sure what else is good. Looking for great food and nice atmosphere. Doesn't need to be fancy, but somewhere comfortable where we can linger since catching up with friends. Thanks for any thoughts.

Need help narrowing down favorite Dallas steakhouse

Thanks for the helpful replies all. I agree with you on the wine list as when I went to the one in Houston they had a Napa wine from Yountville (population 3,000 people). I'm from Yountville and had never heard of this product (Rocca by the way and it's now a favorite). I'll let the team decide but sounds like can't go wrong with Pappas or Nick & Sams.

Interesting....that's how I was leaning (pappas) as really enjoyed it in Houston. Nick & Sams looks interesting and I can't decide if III Forks looks unique or just odd (French steakhouse?). I do like Bob's, but probably more because it's next door to Mia's...brisket taco appetizer anyone?

Need help narrowing down favorite Dallas steakhouse

OK - I've eaten at some of the following but not going to taint the board with my opinion. I'm in town with my team and working long hours. Want to treat them to a nice steak dinner before heading home on Friday. Price doesn't matter. We're staying at the Galleria so nearby would be great, but not worried about traveling north or downtown for the best restaurant. Besides the steak itself, I'm big into the side dishes and don't care about fancy.

I stayed away from the chains on my list as you can have those anywhere, so looking for more local (although a few of the below have a couple other locations, don't consider them chains):

Del Frisco
Bob's
III Forks
Pappas Brothers

Appreciate any thoughts.

North End Italian help

I've had Giaccamo's and Rabia's recommended to me by a friend. Rabia's seems to win out when searching the boards. I realize the choices are endless, but is that a good pick? I'm not a big red sauce fan and am more about authentic. As reference points I like lupa (NY), delfinas (SF), merlot (Chicago) or osteria Mozza (la). Thanks.

One night in Dallas - Tex Mex recommendation (branch out or stick to my tried and true)

Thanks oilandbutter. OK so if I were to actually branch out of my rut - any thoughts in the North Dallas area (working in Plano, staying at Galleria). Given my fondness for Mia's more about the food than the decor (although Mia's has gone a little upscale with the fancy new paint job and valet parking).

One night in Dallas - Tex Mex recommendation (branch out or stick to my tried and true)

I have one night in Dallas this week and am looking for tex mex advice. I'm a big Mia's fan and also liked Taco Diner. I'm debating on trying Mi Cocina to complete the trifecta but I also recently heard about Matt's Rancho. Any thoughts between Mi Cocina and Matt's or should I stick with Mia's? Any phenomonal tex mex place I'm missing? Thanks

One night in Minneapolis - looking for advice on restaurants near the Ivy.

Thanks for the advice all. We'll keep Saffron on the list for the next trip. Freezing so just went to Masa since they have valet. Have loved it in the past and didn't love it as much last night (appetizers good, entrees average). May have been due to the restaurant week crush. We're staying at the Westin and tried B.A.N.K. the last trip and were thoroughly underwhelmed by the food and slow service. Agree the space is amazing though.

Revisiting topic as we're now at the Westin this trip. Any thoughts? Thanks

Looking for Colmar restaurant recommendations for trip with my father

I'm taking a river cruise with my father and we're two nights prior to cruise in Colmar. We won't have a car so we're looking to stay local. I'm interested in any thoughts on good restaurants in the area. While I'm a foodie (want good food, not necessarily fancy) and my father is less adventuresome on food so unlikely to anything too fussy. Budget isn't an issue, just interested in good food.

La Taverne de Alsacienne and Wistub la Petite Venise both look interesting so any thoughts on those? Appreciate any other ideas individuals may have as the Trip Advisor reviews are pretty brief.

Any thoughts on hotels appreciated as well. We're thinking either Le Colombier or Maison des Tetes (Marechal looks cute but gets pretty spotty reviews)

Houston - known for Barbecue or Tex Mex?

Already departed but thanks for the replies. I'll keep El Tiempo in mind for my next trip. No real budget rrrich7 but have done a lot of the high end so tend to favor more casual, local spots.

Houston - known for Barbecue or Tex Mex?

Heading to Houston and have one night. I've been here several times and looking for ideas. I agree with most posts that Goode & Company isn't great (if it's the one I'm thinking of with the large overhang with bench tables outside). I've eaten at Pappasitos as well and thought it was pretty good, but not sure if there's better food out there. Also, the abundance of Pappasito's worries me.

I'm staying at the Sheraton Houston West so likely interested in staying reasonably close (being 20 min or less travel) to there.

Leaning slightly towards Tex Mex, but very willing to be persuaded as I just ate at an all time favorite (Mia's Tex Mex) in Dallas yesterday.

Mia's Tex Mex, Abuelos or something different for dinner in Dallas (near Galleria)?

I'm in the Big D for one night and am looking for dinner ideas. Nothing over the top, but just good food (Mex or trendy are initial thoughts as I'm from northern california - bad Mexican). I've eaten in Dallas alot and here are some experiences to help with ideas:

Mia's Tex Mex - Nachos Loco and Brisket Tacos....can't get enough of these things even if they have gone "upscale" and actually painted the interior.

Javier's - like it but frankly prefer Mia's

Samar (a little off the Mex routine) - thought it was really good and hip, just tried a little too hard (like original Stephan Pyle's better but don't want something that drawn out).

Anything new we should try? I've heard Abuelos and Luna de Noche are good but help me out. Thanks

Advice for one nice dinner in Vegas to treat my team after a tough pre-thanksgiving project.

Lotus of Siam was great. Should have gone with that rec from the beginning. I like spicy and ordered a 4 which was great but quite a bit of heat. I'd love to go back just to see someone eat a "10" on the spice scale. Loved the crispy sausage appetizer, the ground pork (north larb) and ribeye.

Btw - when the waitress came by at B&B she said "the menu was designed by Mario Batali". My guess is he hasn't been back since and when you're that careful to state his role like that it's a clear indicator of his level of involvement. Too bad as Babbo and Mozza are phenomonal.

Advice for one nice dinner in Vegas to treat my team after a tough pre-thanksgiving project.

Thanks shamu613 - ate at B&B last night and it was very weak. Greasiest calamari I've ever had and the pasta was a snooze. Wine rec wasn't great and they were so obviously trying to upsell us on everything it was absurd.

We're going to give Lotus of Siam a try tonight. I'm a little finicky so if I wanted a little more control than the chef's choice, any "can't miss" dishes in your opinion.

Looking for a great Italian restaurant

Thanks BubblyOne and good to know about Mozza. Any thoughts on if one has a better bar or chef counter to eat at? I have two nights and one will be solo. Much prefer eating at a comfortable bar as opposed to a table where I feel like I'm spectating on other peoples dinners.

Looking for a great Italian restaurant

OK Narrowing down two nights in Vegas and only want to do one Italian. This seems to be the group to help me out. Here's my three (I need to pick one) and my initial thoughts from reviews:

1) Bartolotta - I really liked the idea of something a little different (seafood thinking Cinque Terre) but it seems to not be that popular and mixed reviews on the food.

2) B&B - I'll be honest - I love Batali's restaurants in NY and Mozza in LA. If B&B is like that I'm there. Since the other "B" is Bastianich I'm a touch worried. I've eaten at Lydia's in KC and while a very nice meal, it's not up to Batali's.

3) Stratta - looks interesting and may be the pick.

Help me out Chowhounders!! Love great food and a good atmosphere (not too sceney but also not a ghost town).

Looking for new choices in Vegas: advice?

Thanks. Kind of interested in trying since Shaun used to be in Chicago.

solo dining

Any recommendations on places with comfortable bars to dine at (e.g. less of a drinks scene and more of a counter)?

Looking for new choices in Vegas: advice?

PS - although most in Vegas is new to me since I haven't been in years, i would be interested in trying places that are "newer" as I love Andres and some of the longtime favorites, just would like to try something new this trip.

Looking for new choices in Vegas: advice?

I'm heading there next week and interested in a couple dining options. Haven't been to Vegas since City Center or Wynn opened. Interesting in Sunday dinner solo (somewhere with a comfortable bar to dine at with good food) and then a dinner for three on Tuesday (good food for around $250 for three people give or take). Want a cool atmosphere but love good food (not fussy). We live in Yountville and enjoy Ad Hoc a lot (farm table ingredients executed perfectly).

On my short list are B&B, Cut, Switch but open to suggestions (tend to not eat Asian besides sushi so up for suggestions - not a dim sum fan though). Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

Just three of us and probably around $250 (lower would be OK and could stretch it a bit if great food and atmosphere)

One more add - not sure if there are any exception asian places as well. Thanks

Advice for one nice dinner in Vegas to treat my team after a tough pre-thanksgiving project.

I'm working in Vegas with my team next week and looking for one nice "reward" dinner before heading out for the holiday. Don't have to eat at McDonalds but also can't completely break the budget.

I've narrowed it down to a short (reasonably) list and focus is on environment, crowd and food.

Cut, Stratta, Bartolotta, Switch, Wynn Country Club or Mesa Grill.

I've eaten at Mesa and Cut elsewhere and really enjoyed. Also have a lot of Italian places (i'm from Napa/SF) but always up for an exceptional one. Thanks for any thoughts.

Looking for a good Mexican restaurant (or sushi) near Carlsbad.

Thought Kaito was great. ONE SUGGESTION - GET A SIGN. Comedy of errors finding the place as rental car nav directed you to an old (assuming) address. Then when we found the right address, no sign so had to drive around for awhile until we found it.

Worth it once we were inside. Very nice sushi. Thanks for the rec.

I know sushi and Mexican are somewhat diverse, but both sound good and looking for a good dinner in Carlsbad. Price not an object, just want good food. Pollos Maria looked interesting. Any thoughts Chowhounders?

Napa in November

Pizzeria Diavolo is great for lunch if you're up north for wine (Lynmar, Merry Edwards and Walter Hansel are favorites)

Looking for a spot for a nice holiday dinner in Napa with some friends

Thanks Eatdrinkthis. Not sure if you've been, but I think there's a lot of head scratching in the valley on how they got three stars.

Looking for a spot for a nice holiday dinner in Napa with some friends

Hello. We're Yountville locals and I'm setting up a holiday dinner with some friends and we're interested in trying somewhere new for a nice holiday dinner. We've done all the Yountville options several times so looking to branch out. A chef's table may be a fun event for something different.

I had thought about Press or La Toque but Press gets pretty mixed reviews (and it bugs me they can't even keep a website functioning which to me is restaurant 101 these days). I haven't heard a lot about La Toque, but it sounds interesting. Any other ideas in Napa? We used to be big Terra fans, but haven't been in years. Like Morimoto but kind of noisy so thinking a little more festive but somewhere we can also talk without shouting.

Appreciate any thoughts.
