too many Lindt chocolates - need uses (other than eating them)!

Do you bake yeast breads? Wrap sweet or brioche dough around each ball and proof seam side down. Brush with egg before baking and they turn out like Chinese bakery buns. You may want to freeze the Lindt balls first or they seem to leak out during baking. This website also sprinkles with sliced almonds:

All that food grown in Mexico for export - how is it really like?

Thanks for posting that link. Very informative.

Cakes. Where to begin?

I made this recipe recently and it turned out well. Inspired by a different recipe from Martha Stewart, I added cream cheese to the filling and used granulated instead of confectioner's sugar.

Best Scones in Toronto

I also loved the ginger scone at St John's!

quick dinner near Queen St E and Woodbine?

Brussels Bistro is further east, and there are several chains nearby like zteca burritos and Ali Baba's. Brick street Bakery and Dufflets has a limited sandwich menu but they close early. Not much atmosphere at Arax, but I prefer them over Green Eggplant. Baklava was good too.

Help please: seeking SUMAC spice in downtown Toronto

Loblaws has it under their PC Black Label. Can't remember which location I saw it.

Fresh Ontario corn

I discovered the truck on Ellesmere and Brimley, just south of the Scarborough Town Center last year on their last day of the season. I'll be watching this thread for reports on their locations this season!

Expensive and Ugly looking French Pastries at 'Patisserie La Cigogne!

I picked up an almond croissant from both Nadege and Petit Thuet in Rosedale last weekend. Although the pastries looked beautiful in Nadege, I agree the croissant was heavy and dense. In comparison, I was suspicious about the large Thuet croissant, but it turned out much flakier and crispier. Thuet definitely won that croissant battle!

Kathi Roll Express

Mixed reviews for me. I was there yesterday and tried the chicken seekh kabab roll, single filling size. There were a few people ahead of me, and they might have mixed up an order so there was a bit of a wait. Portion size was small, as the wrap seemed dry in comparison to the filling ratio. Spicing of the meat was good, and the mint/cilantro sauce was really fresh and flavorful. I'd consider getting the double filling next time to balance the dry wrapping.

Whole Roasted Chicken Takeout (NOT Portuguese!) in Toronto

We tried Raby's just before Christmas and got a half Peri-Peri chicken. It was inedibly dry and skin was beyond burnt! That was the only thing we tried for takeout and it was a serious disappointment. I find most supermarket chickens dried out, but this was even worse.

We were at Chick-Felay's in Brampton for an event and enjoyed their version of Peri-Peri much better.

It's been a while, but I also liked the smoked chicken at Stockyards.

Patisserie Ruelo Revisit - A nice surprise!

Anyone been to their Yonge and Erskine location yet? I'm debating getting a cake from either Ruelo or La Bombache and would appreciate any suggestions for Asian-inspired desserts.

$10-$15 dinner around Yonge and Bloor

There's a Kenzo Ramen on Yonge near Wellesley

Tired of cinnamon/walnut/raisin Bittman bread. Any suggestions?

I like the King Arthur no-knead oat bread:
I've also enjoyed a caraway rye version, and keep meaning to try adding roasted garlic.

Best Brewed Coffee in Toronto?

The Starbucks on Yonge just north of Bloor has a Clover. There's also a Clover at the Crema on Bloor, east of Yonge if you want to do a side-by-side tasting.

Help with restaurant recommendation

I would consider Enoteca Sociale as another choice on Dundas, but even closer to you would be L'Unita. Both good options for Italian.

What's the wait time like on a Sunday around 7:00? We may be in Brooklyn on the weekend and are thinking of hitting Spuyten Duyvil afterwards.

Brilliant Chinese Restaurant - Different dishes, equally enjoyable!

What's the average price pp at Yang's or Casa Vicoria/Imperial for dimsum?

Brilliant Chinese Restaurant - Different dishes, equally enjoyable!

So many restaurants, so little time! I also want them to try the lobster at O'Mei I keep reading about...wish I had more stomachs.

Brilliant Chinese Restaurant - Different dishes, equally enjoyable!

Nice photos and review! How does the Peking duck compare to the Emperor Monday special? My parents are coming to visit and I'm trying to plan some great meals.

P.S. Do you recommend Brilliant for dimsum?

Chocolate-covered bacon (to buy)

Just called About Cheese - they don't have any currently, but they'll think about doing it again in the summer :(

Warning on a couple of horrible tasting products!

Thanks for the heads up! I'm always tempted by the dimsum at T&T but now I'm glad I never bothered.

However, I did buy some "Double Happiness Mochi" on sale in the frozen section at T&T - big thumbs down. They have that strange medicinal herb smell that I can't quite place.

And I also tried the Asian Delight beef samosas (again on sale in the frozen section) at Loblaws. Just plain salty, with highly processed mystery filling. I was just at a get-together where someone brought some samosas from Little India. They said they were made in-house and then frozen for home baking, but I never got the name of the place. That's what I get for shopping on an empty stomach!

Fruit Baskets

Anyone have experience ordering a fruit basket for delivery in Toronto? Thinking of sending it with a condolence card.

Family friendly French in Toronto?

We sat at the back of Le Select and there were several tables with kids around us. Didn't seem to be a problem.

Passion Fruit Puree

Try one of the latin-american grocers in Kensington market. I noticed different frozen fruit purees and bottled nectars the last time I was there.

The Neighbourhood Butcher

Stopped by today. I was looking for a blade roast which wasn't in their display, but the guy at the counter said they'd get me one from the back. I took a peek in the back as the butcher cut my roast and he answered a few questions about different cuts of meat - very friendly indeed. Nice addition to the neighbourhood.

What is Canadian Cuisine?

I haven't made these in probably 10 years! I originally got this from a childhood friend:

1/3 cup butter
1/2 cup corn syrup
1 cup brown sugar
2 tbsp cocoa
1 tsp vanilla
8 cups puffed wheat

Combine butter, corn syrup, sugar and cocoa powder in a heavy saucepan. Briing to a boil. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Pour over puffed wheat. Mix well and press into a greased pan.
