I went last night and despite it's location, though easy parking, it's a delightful respite! It's gorgeous inside, thoughtful menu for both food and wine, great service and execution. We were a group of six and had attentive service, tried lots of diffferent small bites, the cheese board, a pizza, and a couple of entrees and really enjoyed everything. Great date night spot, or place to pop in for an interesting glass of wine...The bar is really nice too...Definitely worth trying. It's not your usual Valley spot. |

Has anyone been to the Peasant Wine Bistro that opened last week in Tarzana? |
Try South Beverly Grill on S. Beverly...They often have Dover Sole as a lunch special and it's terrific... |
My FIL is nuts for Marzipan and has requested a cake with Marzipan for his birthday next month. Anyone know of any local bakeries who do a Marzipan cake? |

A Decent Hoagie in the Valley! Try Capriotti's in Encino...near Woodley on Ventura...They have terrific subs! |

After seeing Duff's new show Sugar High, I'm really keen to try Auntie Em's CCC...big, flat, crispy on the edges and chewy and melty in the center...like Clementine's...My favorite type of CCC. |

I'm meeting my husband Nov 16-18 (Wed - Friday morning)...coming in from LA. We have an event at the Bowery Electric on the 16th, so looking for a casual dinner spot nearby - any type of cuisine is fine by us. We've both spent a lot of time in NY but haven't been in several years so keen to try new places...I think we max out at the $125 mark pp for dinners...(including vino)... |

I'm heading to NY for two quick days and am hoping for suggestions for best eats for lunches, a casual dinner near the Bowery Electric, and one mind blowing dinner for the second night...Nothing has to be fancy or expensive, but I'm also not concerned about the cost. Ideas??? ----- |

Looking for great pizza place in Sherman Oaks/Studio City Area I agree with 420 regarding Barone's...It's a specific pizza but it's really yummy - especially their mushroom (cooked in wine) and pepperoni (thick cut). We also get Mulberry St. and Slices (on Ventura near Sepulveda - they deliver)...Both are good NY style thin, chewy crust with decent sauce, cheese and both do a good sausage and really good plain cheese! |

Downtown LA Dinner Party Catering Options Try Bottega Louie... ----- |

tasty and inexpensive Mexican food La Fogata is really good and inexpensive...Family owned on Van Nuys near Magnolia...It's been around forever and is consistently good... |
Stonehill Tavern is a lovely place for a nice dinner...great food, service and wines...It's at the St. Regis in Dana Point... ----- |

Looking for great fish & chips in the SF Valley...Something along the lines of Eammon's in Alexandria, VA... |

Any recommended Corned Beef Hash? Though I don't eat beef, so I'm not personally an expert, my husband & niece order CBH everywhere we go and both feel that the CBH at John O'Groats is tops...big chunks of well flavored corned beef, onions, and good potatoes... ----- |

Is there some place in LA that will alter my opinion of Red Velvet Cake? I think the Red Velvet at Susina is really great too...It's super moist and the icing is so yummy. |

Good Chinese in the West Valley I know that too...It's a location logicistics thing...some of the party is more interested in convenient driving than really good food! (harumph)...Yang Chow is a good idea...I used to go there when I was a kid! Thanks so much! |

Good Chinese in the West Valley My almost 11 year old niece wants to do a big family dinner for her birthday at a Chinese restaurant. She'd really like a place with a private room for the 15 or so of us, and good food...(She's a bit of foodie in the making!)...Any suggestions? Woodland Hills, Tarzana area is preferred...I know of places further east but not heading west...THANKS! |

Akasha is my favorite... |

I'm looking for an amazing cake for a coworker's birthday...No lemon...nothing overtly chocolate. We've ODed on Sweet Lady Jane triple berry and I'm trying to think of something great! Any suggestions...I travel from Sherman Oaks to Culver City so I've got a pretty wide span of locations... |

Business Breakfast in Beechwood Cyn Area Any suggestions? It's at 8:30 so that rules Highland Grounds out as I believe it opens at 9:00...I am considering 101 Coffee Shop, but thought I'd seek CH advice...Thanks! |

Tyler Florence also has a really good recipe that uses cocoa powder, powdered milk, sugar...Check on Food Network.com...he did it for a holiday episode last year with homemade marshmallows...I think there's also a spiced version... |

Finger foods for tea...40 people Besides some of the usual tea fare (scones, finger sandwiches), you can also do a couple of salads served in edible cups...I did a sort of Asian themed tea for a wedding shower a few years ago and baked wonton skins in mini-muffin pans then filled them with a chopped Chinese chicken salad...You could do a curried chicken in puff pastry cups, or a chopped Greek in phyllo cups... |
Crab Cooker is the best...worth picking up a few quarts for the freezer for times when cravings strike...There was a brief time when they actually canned their soup and sold it at some local grocers but I guess the demand wasn't great... |
Cafe Bizou handles large parties really well...We had our baby shower there with forty or so guests and it was terrific! It's fairly affordable too... |
I just saw nice looking premade mini-burgers at the newly remodeled Encino Ralph's...They had quite a few different somewhat upscale sections with lots of entertaining made easy options... |
Nice Brunch/Early Lunch in Santa Monica with Kids? Back on the Beach on PCH...Picnic tables set up in the sand with swings in easy viewing proximity! Can't really beat the ocean and boardwalk view... Jinky's is also really good but the later you go the longer the wait...not always ideal with kids. |
I second the Red Lion Tavern! It's a great spot for a party! |
Brandywine in Woodland Hills...anyone ever been? It's a rather great little nieghborhood gem! The food and service are consistently (over a span of the fifteen or so years I've been going there) very good and the banquette offer a little privacy so you can hear your conversations... |

Forest Lawn in Glendale - need a nearby restaurant Ramsey's at the Toluca Lake Country Club is just west on Forest Lawn Drive. It's a lovely space and the guys running it also own Mo's...Ramsey's is a bit more upscale than Mo's but still reasonable, great, interesting salads and sweet potato fries! |
