Chocolate Almond Cake - Staten Island restaurant Thinking back... I have to say that this restaurant was there a good 25 years+ ago. I tried to check the area on google that my memory remembers and I can't pinpoint it. I just remember that if you were getting off the ferry, you would make a right, go past the concrete-like building on the left (city hall, police station, library???) and then possibly walk another block or two before you make a left. POSSIBLY walk up a tiny hill, and the restaurant was on the right hand side. I want to say that the restaurant wasn't right on the street... possibly had to go down a couple steps and it was on a basement level??? Back then, it was a really popular restaurant and it wasn't cheap. NY Times might have had a review on it and mentioned the cake. Thank you all for your help. It's nice to know that people care to help other people. As you can tell, I'm not a Staten Island girl. My Dad lived in the area and took the ferry to downtown every day, so I would visit him and that's why I remember this cake (ground almonds in the cake batter). |

Chocolate Almond Cake - Staten Island restaurant I don't remember the name of the restaurant and the 2 that you mention, doesn't ring any bells. I just know that the restaurant was 'known' for this cake. |

Chocolate Almond Cake - Staten Island restaurant Years ago, there was a restaurant (sorry, I don't remember the name) that wasn't too far from the Ferry Entrance that I still remember! The food was excellent, but one of the best desserts I have ever had, was their Chocolate Almond Cake that I still dream about. (Yes, I know... I have no life!) LOL I don't know if the restaurant is still in business, but I am looking for the recipe. Anyone have it? |
