Tandoori Hut - Richmond Hill

Had a good meal here: salmon tikka, aloo palak, yellow dal, garlic naan.
Does anyone have favorite places (any cuisine) nearby?

KARAM in Bay Ridge

Karam Lebanese continues to nail it after all these years. Tried for the first time yesterday: a tongue sandwich, and grape leaves stuffed with rice and meat. Both amazing. 86th Street & 4th Ave.

Junior's

I believe the owners of Junior's decided to not sell and decided to keep it going. For good bagels try The Bagel Hole on 7th Ave & 12th in Park Slope.

Ollie and Ry - Park Slope

It's like an unassuming, self-service, gourmet diner. This morning I had eggs and potato hash with a small fruit salad. They also had, for later in the day, a huge pork shank over polenta.

These guys really know what they are doing. Have enjoyed excellent ratatouille and baked salmon, breakfast burrito, hot & sour soup, tuna fish, vanilla custard, corned beef hash with poached eggs.

Ollie and Ry - Park Slope

Excellent new place opened up in the former mediocre bagel shop on 5th Ave, bet. President & Carroll. Really good, interesting, unpretentious, reasonable. Had the pulled hoisin pork on ciabatta sandwich, served with homemade potato chips and pickle slices. Chinese chicken salad. Chicken tortilla soup. All first rate. Hope they thrive.

Gui Lin Mi Fen - Flushing

This place looks good. Taste of Guillin in Sunset Park serves their authentic style with crispy roast pig and beef tongue, I believe.

Had an excellent assortment of cheeses from Greene Grape in Fort Greene. I'm no cheese expert but Cara Warren the cheesemonger is super knowledgeable and helpful.

Great Delivery Recommendations in Kensington/Ditmas Park

Is Shanya's the excellent Trini place closed? It's on the corner by Wheated. I drove by a few times and it was shuttered. The woman who owned it made great homemade rotis.

Continued Feedback on Moderation Changes, and More Guidance for Bloggers

The way to grow this site isn't to bring in restaurant owners and cookbook writers. To increase popularity give us useful tools (like mapping, addresses, cross-referencing, better design) to find and report on great restaurants. That's why food critics and bloggers have been mining us for years. People across the country go on Chowhound to find cool, delicious places to eat when they travel and in their own towns. Make it indispensable and easy to use. Don't flood it with people who have agendas. Jeez...even the word "Chowhound" has been deleted from the Chow newsletter.

Soho Tiffen Junction

It's not Curry Hill but I really dug this place on the corner of 8th Street & Green in the former Johnny Rockets space. It's basically good tasting fast food Indian, Chipolte style. Many choices, good portions, reasonably priced. I hope it does well.

Inviting Professional Voices to the Community

As stated before this is a case of the tail wagging the dog. CHOWHOUND is an innovative, democratic, broad-based, vital use of the internet. Where critics and professionals go to learn what's really happening. Many of the places Bourdain, Zimmern, etc. visit on their shows were mentioned years ago on CH. CHOW is a lifestyle sales tool.

Inviting Professional Voices to the Community

This whole conversation is depressing. The focus of Chowhound is now not about finding the best restaurants and food but how to interact with food industry professionals who may wish to contribute in a tastefully promotional way. Servicing the CH community with site improvements is obviously not a goal. This shift of focus/values was done at what corporate level?

Inviting Professional Voices to the Community

This isn't good. Why weren't posters consulted, polled on this new policy? CH has since the corporate sale been used as the bait to get Chow traffic. We posters create the content but are denied simple common sense features like a listing of restaurant addresses, cross references, mapping of eateries. Moderators have a tough job but they are serving management who doesn't understand the democratic broad based expertise and groundbreaking uniqueness of CH.
