Soho Tiffen Junction

It's not Curry Hill but I really dug this place on the corner of 8th Street & Green in the former Johnny Rockets space. It's basically good tasting fast food Indian, Chipolte style. Many choices, good portions, reasonably priced. I hope it does well.

Inviting Professional Voices to the Community

As stated before this is a case of the tail wagging the dog. CHOWHOUND is an innovative, democratic, broad-based, vital use of the internet. Where critics and professionals go to learn what's really happening. Many of the places Bourdain, Zimmern, etc. visit on their shows were mentioned years ago on CH. CHOW is a lifestyle sales tool.

Inviting Professional Voices to the Community

This whole conversation is depressing. The focus of Chowhound is now not about finding the best restaurants and food but how to interact with food industry professionals who may wish to contribute in a tastefully promotional way. Servicing the CH community with site improvements is obviously not a goal. This shift of focus/values was done at what corporate level?

Inviting Professional Voices to the Community

This isn't good. Why weren't posters consulted, polled on this new policy? CH has since the corporate sale been used as the bait to get Chow traffic. We posters create the content but are denied simple common sense features like a listing of restaurant addresses, cross references, mapping of eateries. Moderators have a tough job but they are serving management who doesn't understand the democratic broad based expertise and groundbreaking uniqueness of CH.

The Fate of Outer Boroughs Board

This board which I regard as the heart of Chowhound is endangered, please join the discussion on Site Talk on the future of CH.

This sounds like the end of Chowhound.

Wheated - Church Avenue - loved it!

Yes, I liked that other Trini place. But whenever I went there she was sold out of doubles, too!
AM Thai is one of the few places in Brooklyn that has Khao Soi the crispy noodle curry soup.

Wheated - Church Avenue - loved it!

She makes everything from scratch. And makes doubles, though they have always been sold out when I arrived. I forgot the owner/cook's name, I believe Shayna is her granddaughter. Previously there was a Haitian place in the spot.
BTW Am Thai is a branch of the little place on McDonald near Church. Very good.

Do you know if the great little Trini place Shayna's on the corner is still open?

Morgan's BBQ in Prospect Heights

Went today for lunch. Had the chopped brisket sandwich. Pretty good but small with a nice side of mac and cheese. Would like to try the full BBQ menu at dinner. But heard something about preparing corn bread for the NY Times person coming this afternoon, sound like maybe photos for a review. Prepare for the onslaught.

Will check out those items. I also want to try the roast chicken that others have raved about. Stuffed zucchini special also looked good...

Weekly Burmese/Lao Market Outdoors in Fort Wayne

Worth the trip! Not sure how many more weeks it will last. If you're coming from the North there are Amish on the farm meals that sound very good, though I haven't checked them out.

Weekly Burmese/Lao Market Outdoors in Fort Wayne

This was a much different vibe from the Queens festivals. It was more of a market serving the local community. A gathering place in a nice riverside park, families, etc. The people didn't seem as assimilated as those I've seen at the NY festivals which are sponsored by established churches. Also many food items I didn't recognize (not that I'm an expert). Vegetables I never saw in the Chinese supermarkets I go to in Brooklyn. Many fried foods, I recognized chicken and large prawns, but little else. I'm sure there were many other foods I was unaware of but this was a quick first time visit.

Weekly Burmese/Lao Market Outdoors in Fort Wayne

This Sunday in Foster Park my family stumbled upon an amazing Burmese/Lao market. It's every summer weekend, Sat & Sun, 11am-8pm. About a dozen vendors. Prepared foods, exotic vegetables, clothes, candy, etc. We sampled excellent Burmese grilled chicken wing (large), a chicken noodle dish, an eggy crepe topped with condensed milk, and a Lao banana/black bean sticky rice dessert. Beautiful Burmese skirts were on sale for $8.00. We were the only non-Burmese/Laotian customers, everyone was welcoming. A friendly crowd gathered to show my daughter how to tie her skirt.

If you haven't already come...Powers and Coney Island are great. But there's also excellent Burmese and good Mexican, BBQ, etc. Try searching "Fort Wayne" on these boards for more info.

Hidden Jamaican in Park Slope

If you Google Street view the address in the article (474 4Ave) it shows the space that was once a cafe and I believe a soup restaurant bet. 10 &11.
