Gluten Free Crock Pot Cooking

SO we got a crock pot as a gift and I went out and bought several cookbooks. Here is my problem. My husband has Celiac so I cannot cook with FLour, Oats, Barley or RYe. I am noticing that most of the recipes call for flour. I assume it is because the sauces need to thicken during the long cooking process. Does anyone have a good recipe that does not require flour? I still have not found an appealing recipe, so my crock pot sits unused!

Roast Pork Buns in Miami

Does anyone know of a bakery where you can get things like steamed or roast pork buns? I am also looking for fantastic chinese roast duck and the roast pork. When I lived in new york you could buy it by the pound and cook with it and I miss that.

Finding masa harina in Miami, Florida

Masa Harina is also used to make arepas, so as a result, they are available at both Publix and Winn Dixie. It is so easy to use and you can make so many things, experiment, play around with it. I love using it and making arepas and empanadas. I believe the brand I have decided I like best is called PAN, it is in a yellow bag and is in the baking aisle

Wheat free pie crust?

Hi Gilliano, the recipe sounds wonderful, just make sure that when you are using the vinegar that you use something other than WHITE VINEGAR. White vinegar is derived from WHEAT and does contain gluten

Lordy Lordy... Wheat Free? What the @#$%^#%?

Energee Foods has some really great products. I have no allergies but my husband does so I am always trying new things. Energee has some fantastic Cinnamon Rolls, Biscotti, pretzels etc and I can tell you, that I am amazed that they are wheat and gluten free. Go to thier web site and check it out!

Wheat free pie crust?

My husband has celiac and is allergic to Dairy so I experiement baking wise a lot. I have made a cookie crumb crust using Pamela's cookies, which tend to be a bit chewy and soft, so I place them on a baking sheet and essentially dry them out. After they are cool, I grind them in the food processor, mix them with a bit of oil and applesauce and press it into a pie pan and proceed to make the pie. When we have dinner parties sometimes the guests dont believe that the dessert is gluten and dairy free!

Any vegetarian faves for Rosh Hashonah?

I make vegetarian stuffed cabbage every year. I stuff it with Rice (or any grain for that matter) in the past I have added tofu, but usually I sautee the inner cabbage leaves (that I cannot use for stuffing. Garlic, Onions, Celery, raisins and any other vegetabels you like. I then stuff the cabbage and braise it in a sweet and sour tomato broth, just like you would meat stuffed cabbage. . This dis is definately better the second day

As a non spanish speaker I love to eat at Miami's Ethnic Restuarants. If I go with a spanish speaker I am fine, but sometimes if we go on our own, we can be lost because questions are not neccesarily easily answered. Does anyone have any recomnedations for ethinc restaurants (THAT ARE NOT CHAINS OR TOURIST TRAPS) in dade county?

Old Fashioned Chicken Croquettes

When I was a little kid, we used to get frozen chicken croquettes. I have not seen them in my grocers freezer for years (other than the hispanic kind) I was wondering if they still make them. I remember Howard Johnson did them, but I dont think Howard Johnson does frozen food anymore?

Anyone got any ideas?

What is so great about Panko crumbs?

If you love fried food, then PAnko is the way to go. The sugar does help with taste and browning. It is also in my opionion that it seems as if the food does not feel as greasy when fried quickly. It does not seem to absorb as much grease. In addtion is has a much better crunch than you can ever get with bread crumbs
