12 course menu at Q Haute

I have also considered taking part in the 12 course menu but considering the 7 course was $128 the last time I checked, I'm thinking it might not be worth it. I had the 7 course there before, and while it is in the upper tier of dining as far as Calgary goes IMHO, it is still miles away from other cities (Vegas, New York, San Fran) I have been in. While the meal was good, nothing really stood out. The progression was very predictable and everything felt "safe".

I did once inquire about doing an extended tasting menu at Chef's Table over a year ago and they were more than happy to oblige. However my plans got squashed very early in the planning stages and I haven't had a chance to see if it can still be done.

Rouge done an extended tasting of 8 courses (versus it may be 7?) for my wife and I about a year and a half ago. This was a little more adventurous than Q Haute, but again nothing really caught our attention except a fabulous tomato dish.

About your pricing concern. That seems to be the way Calgary dining is. You get the prices that some highly regarded restaurants across North America have, but you dont get the same quality or experience. Seems like Q Haute is priced high? It probably is because they can get away with it in this city.

Guy Savoy or Twist

After eating at Guy Savoy last year and eating at Le Cirque this past Saturday I'd have to give Le Cirque the nod. Not that there's anything wrong with GS (I really enjoyed it), but Le Cirque had overall the better food imho. Not one thing I had made me say "meh". The oxtail bucatini is absolutely amazing and the foie dish was probably the most well balanced/composed plate of foie I have had.

The cost of a meal at Le Cirque for my wife and I was actually 1/4 of the price of our meal at Guy Savoy.
I would give the slight edge to GS in the service department, but not by much. Other than that I would say Le Cirque trumps it in every other way.

Have never been to twist so I Cant really comment on it.

YYC - Titanic Dinner at Kensington Riverside Inn - Anyone??

I received an email and thought about it for a couple seconds before realizing, like yourself, that the price was a little out of hand. I've spent as much on meals before and they always turned out to be a little less than I had hoped for (with the exception of Guy Savoy in Las Vegas).

I'm sure it was a good meal. But $250 may be stretching it.

Vegas fine dining for a pregnant woman?

Thanks for the reply.

I have no idea how I left out Sage. I figure I'll be doing a disservice to my wife by forcing her into only a few menu items at a place like Robuchon. So that will have to wait until we can get back at a later time.

Breakfast/brunch at Bouchon. Dinners at Sage, Scarpetta and Le Cirque........a pity I have to wait another 2 months.

Vegas fine dining for a pregnant woman?

Hi all,

My 4th trip to Vegas with my wife will be this June. We wanted to get back one last time (we got married in Vegas) before we settled down with the little guy this fall.

I have both Le cirque and Scarpetta booked. After looking at both of their menus it seems she has some choices without being too restricting.

I have one more restaurant to book and I would like some suggestions on what could be a nice higher end choice. Robuchon seems right up her alley for pure opulence but I'm a little worried about all the shellfish, undercooked this and that, etc. I've been trying to figure out the third dinner for about 3 weeks........and I'm no closer to figuring this out than I was when I started :s

May be a little bit of an odd request, but any help is greatly appreciated :)

Dine out Calgary 2011

My fiancee and I will be heading out to Chef's Table. Since we're both shift workers our schedules clash over the next couple weeks we probably won't be able to go anywhere else. We've never been to Chef's Table and have wanted to try it for a while now.
