Final LA Outing

Thanks all, much appreciated. I've been to Madame Chou Chou - agreed, the place was a small and had a quaint feeling to it, plus the food was very nice.

I'd also include Meet as a place that we were impressed by. Culver City's hidden gem!

Let us know if there are other places we should consider. So far Spago looks promising, especially since we haven't been.

Final LA Outing

Hi all,

So my wife and I are moving to Chicago in a couple of weeks, and figured we should try one last restaurant that is "LA" before we make the jump. (i.e famous/popular restaurant that if someone were to ask us "Have you been?" we can say "No doubt.")

We've had our share of Japanese food, so that's out. No feeling steak so that's out. I'm allergic to shellfish so preferably no seafood.

With this in mind, we started looking and came across a place called Giraffe, a French restaurant. Any feedback on this place? Are there others that we should consider, that is LA, and also serves French cuisine?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated, and would keep us very much partial to this great city of LA.

Thanks all!

South Bay Recommendations?

By the way, we ended up going to Chez Melange - the kid's mom wanted to give it a try. The place has a bar/casual dining up front, and more of a formal dining area in the back where we dined. Food was pretty good, I had the Twice Cooked Pork. At the same time, they seem to be known for their shellfish selection (which unfortunately I'm allergic to). Others who do may love this place - I can't comment on this, sadly.

Overall, food was decent, a bit overpriced, probably not best for kids, and the waiter was nice but little too overbearing at times.

Downtown Culver City Recommendation

So folks, we tried Meet (http://www.meetrestaurantla.com/) last Friday. Sorry for my late post, but here's what I thought.

I ordered french onion soup and steak tartare. Really tasty onion soup, one of the best I've ever had. The portion is rather large though, so by the time I got to the steak tartare, I was 80% full... however, I was just as pleased with the main dish.

My wife ordered crab cakes and Poulet Roti (or roasted chicken). I don't do shell fish so passed on the crab cakes - she loved them by the way - but her chicken was excellent. Very much moist and tender, and juicy.

Above all, perhaps, the service may have been the best part of the experience. They are not only friendly, they are very attentive, and were very accommodating when we asked to split the check amongst 6-7 credit cards (although the website said no more than 3 splits). Superb.

Overall, we would definitely go back to this restaurant, and may also try their famous brunch. Great location, great for dates, great for groups. Recommend for sure!

Thanks for all the info! Agreed on W&C - looks like it's not in the area we're looking at. Will definitely keep the place in mind for the future though.

So I've heard a mixed reviews on Akasha - positives around good atmosphere, decent food selection. Negatives around the price being too high for the food. I've never been so this may not be true at all.

My wife apparently wants to go to Meet - said she's been there for brunch and she loved it. Since it's her birthday, will most likely have to go with her request... :) Anyone else been to Meet?

Thanks, very helpful. I have heard of A-frame, along with a place called Alibi Room. Haven't been to either of those places, but they both seem to focus on smaller dishes...?

Didn't know Gyenari closed (although I can't say I'm surprised) - do you know if the new Korean place is open and is good?

Lukshon may be interesting option; I like how Father's office is right by which offers another post-dinner option. Is the place big enough to accommodate a good size group?

Thanks - I'm also seeing mediocre reviews online. May pass on this place.

Downtown Culver City Recommendation

Hi folks,

This Friday is my wife's birthday, and I'm looking to organize a get-together for a group of 12-13 people. A few places I have in mind for the downtown Culver City area...

Sublime Food Lounge
Meet
Fraiche

We'll then make our way to either Rush Street or Ugo wine bar to get post-dinner beverages. Can anyone suggest one of the three above, or other places in the same area? I've tried Ford's Filling Station (not very good), Tender Greens (good but no reservation), Gyenari (not quite sure if I liked it), K-Zo (good Japanese, but not in the mood for Japanese food this week).

Thanks in advance!

We're looking to meet up with some friends tonight in the South Bay area, Manhattan Beach or Redondo Beach area. Any recommendations? Our friends are bring their 7-year old son so the place needs to be relatively kids-friendly.

Three places we are looking at:

Hwang's Restaurant

Any suggestions / advices would be appreciated. Thanks!
