Need recommendation for Chinese Restaurant in Brookline/West Roxbury

Thanks, everybody! I decided to expand my search to include Allston so that we could go to Jo Jo Taipei. My family is Taiwanese and I think driving a little to get good Taiwanese food will be worth it.

Need recommendation for Chinese Restaurant in Brookline/West Roxbury

Any recommendations for authentic Chinese food in the South Brookline/West Roxbury area? I need a place that can accommodate about 30 people and has nice decor. It's for a luncheon after a memorial service. And we're Chinese so the food needs to be good.

A quick search on Yelp suggested Mandarin Gourmet. Any thoughts?

Breakfast/Brunch spot North of Boston?

I'm looking for a good breakfast/brunch spot north of Boston, preferably along the I-93 corridor. Needs to be kid-friendly too! Any thoughts?

Thanks for this. Sichuan Garden did come up as a possibility. I'll check it out. My family has gone to New China Pearl for dim sum and that might work for a banquet too.

May I ask where you ended up having your wedding banquet?

Authentic Chinese/Taiwanese banquet recommendations north of Boston?

I guess they closed for renovations on March 1. Hopefully they'll re-open and be as good as before, but I'll need to host this banquet by the end of March.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Yes, I've tried them, but they are closed for renovations. Also some talk going around that the chef recently quit after fighting with the owners and now it's all gone downhill. Too bad. They might have been an option for us. I am looking for a place that can accommodate 4-5 tables, though. That's 40-50 people.

Authentic Chinese/Taiwanese banquet recommendations north of Boston?

Hello. I'm looking for a Chinese restaurant that can do an authentic Chinese banquet in the north of Boston area. We live in southern NH, where the options are few to none. I'm hosting a banquet for my father's 75th birthday and look to have 4-5 tables. My family is from Taiwan, so the food must be good! Would prefer Taiwanese cuisine, but am open to other suggestions. Any thoughts?

Just got back from the Chen Yang Li in Bedford. Not bad, nice decor. A possibility, but I'd like to explore other options. Will post on the Boston board. Thanks!

Is CYL Chen Yang Li? I'm going there for lunch today. But I'm leaning toward a venue in MA b/c we'll have guests coming from south of Boston too.

This is so helpful. Thanks for your input!

Thanks for the recommendations. I did try Taipei Formosa in Nashua a while ago and thought it was pretty authentic, but I just heard they've closed for "renovations." Maybe the kitchen politics got the best of them.

I've also tried Lin Garden for dim sum and it was decent. That might be a possibility if I can arrange a banquet directly with the owners. The stuff off the menu isn't too impressive.

For this banquet, I don't mind driving a bit for truly authentic food. Sichuan cuisine is not my first choice. I'm assuming you'd recommend Shangri-La in Belmont? Any others in that vicinity?

Favorite coffee spots - NH

Thank you for this post! I'm pretty new to the area and totally looking for good coffee spots.

The one place I've found is Bonhoeffer's Cafe in Nashua. It's a warm, cozy place with comfy chairs and a fireplace, worn wood floors and wooden tables with a good number of outlets for your laptop. Coffee and food are good too. They do have free wi-fi, but you need to ask at the counter for the password. Very chill atmosphere. A good place to hang out. The only downside is they're not open late (close at 5:00) and they're not open on Sundays.

Hi. I'm looking for a Chinese restaurant in the Merrimack Valley area that can do an authentic Chinese banquet. We'll probably have 4-5 tables. I'm hosting a surprise party for my parents' anniversary. They're from Taiwan, so the food has to be good! Any thoughts?
