Del Posto- to wine pair or not....
We had the 7 course tasting menu last night at Del Posto. My dining companion had the wine pairing.
Pluses: All pours were generous and was told at the beginning of the meal that if he wanted more of a specific wine during a course that more would be poured. Generous and classy
Minuses: I did not get the pairing and the sommelier implied that my dining experience would be somehow diminished. Totally uncalled for and is never ever acceptable.
Sommelier then redeems himself by his attentive service throughout the meal and by offering some great by-the-glass suggestions.
So jon462 did you get the pairing?

Trendy but good recommendation for dinner with a college kid?
Thanks everyone. We ended up in W'burg @ the Dressler- food was good but unfortunately the place was empty!! absolutely dead (the world cup? heat wave ennui?) Will definitely use other recs in future, thanks especially for the info on Quality Meats, would have never thought of it as i'm am not too fond of that restaurant group (am devoted to Keens) but for certain occasions would be perfect. Love both Locanda Verde and Maialino and may do one of them with same nephew at end of summer before he heads back to college.

Trendy but good recommendation for dinner with a college kid?
We are taking our nephew out for a special dinner on Sunday. I am looking for someplace hip BUT the food has to be good, preferably below 34th. It is a special dinner, but a place like EMP would be a bit over the top. Recently we took niece to Stanton Social and last year another nephew to Buddahkan. My husband thinks a steak house is in order- but I feel it's too expected and ordinary. I'm considering the Breslin but I have a thing about places that don't take reservations (also my last time at the spotted pig I had very shabby service, but I digress). I keep on thinking of Scarpetta or my old stand-by Grammercy Tavern but these are places that appeal to me. thanks in advance

Need restaurant reccomendations for Vieste/Peschici in Puglia (Gargano Penninsula)
Just a note to mention 2 places in Vieste (centro storico) we found to be above average.
Osteria Al Duomo- Wonderful fresh seafood.
http://www.osterialduomo.it/home.htm
Vecchia Vieste- supposedly Vieste-style cooking (everthing is stuffed).
It's a bit nicer to sit in the back. Delicious pastas. Ask for the home-made local amaro.
Oh yes, and the pizza place in the central piazza by the stairs that go up into the centro storico, they are only open at night and sell square pizza by weight . Always crowded and for a good reason. (pasquale's? I think?)
You really can't go wrong with Pugliese food!
Need restaurant reccomendations for Vieste/Peschici in Puglia (Gargano Penninsula)
We are staying here for a couple of days and all the places look the same to us....restaurants serving vacationing Italian families pizza and the occasional german tourist drinking beer. I was hoping for some great sea food. Can anyone help?
Restaurants and Bars with Matchbooks
Do the matchbooks have to actually have matches? We just finished eating at Allegretti. They have "matchbooks" but when you open them up, they are tiny notepads. Too cute!
day trip out of Barcelona
Two Suggestions-
Monserrat- This is a great day trip if 1. money is an issue and /or 2. you are just dying to pack a picknick lunch and do some hiking. Very easy to get to. Placa Espanya has a half dozen helpful people in red jacket to get you on your way. A round trip ticket costs about 15 euros and includes the Cremallera train up to the Monastery. Look at the church, hear the singing, whatever. But then hike all the way up to St. Jeroni. If you are not feeling that energetic, take the funicular up to St Joan and start your walk from there. The scenery is fantastic. But now the best part- you have packed this amazing lunch from Vin Vinotecca (this is one of the true foodie destinations in Barca - Cheeses, meats, breads, wines......truly a destination lunch! The info desk at Montserrat is very helpful.
Tarragona- A good trip especially if you want seafood. Nice roman ruins. Nice walks along the water. For lunch go to the barrio know as El Serrallio. The restaurants along the water are OK for a drink but for good food go to either Restaurant Cal Joan- probably the best food in Tarragona. (sorry no address-you'll find it, a couple blocks in on a corner) or El Raco del Pescador at the very end of c/ Sant Joan- A real local place for mounds of steamed shell fish, whole grilled fish alla planxa, black rice, canitas and bottles of cava. A little spanish is helpful here. On the weekends these places seem to fill up.
Need advice for 3 days outside Barcelona
Hi, We will have 7 days in Barcelona at the end of March. We thought it would be nice to spend the first 3 day relaxing in some small town not too far from Barcelona (rent a car and drive 1-2 hours) before spending our last 4 days in town.
The main criteria is that there must be really, REALLY good food and places to hang out and drink. And be able to get into or at least make a reservation. We originally thought of driving up the Costa Brava but I cannot get a single reservation in any of the foodie places (you all know). Also we're looking for someplace that will hold our interest for 3 nights- Zaragoza? Vic? Tarragona? We would just drive to San Sebastian- but it's too far?
I read some post about roasted wild green onions....tell me more.
Muchas gracias a todos!
Drinks+food near 94+B'dway
I have some friends who are coming in from out of town and I'd like to meet them near their hotel (B'dway + 94th). Would appreciate suggestions for a place within walking distance with a nice bar and decent food.
I did a Chow search but it seems that most places that were interesting to me on the UWS were near Lincoln Center (Bar Boulud, Bin 71)
We will be meeting early- about 6. Thanks
Kun Jip - what to order?
Kun Jip is not the place in k town for bbq, but they do offer it. I'm surprised there are no lines here for Koren bbq. Walk around, look in the windows or try another site.
Once-in-lifetime NYC dinner: Four Seasons vs. others
All really good advice, But why not have pre-dinner cocktails at the Four Seasons instead? Their bartenders really know their stuff. And then hop in a cab (how NY) to a really great food place and then back to midtown for a nightcap at the King Cole Room. All very grown up.
