Have you ever left a Restaurant...

Yes, About eight months ago in SF. I was with two other friends. To busy to give us a menu or take a drink order. I'm not asking for them to wait on me instantly , I am the king. I guess your were a little preoccupied with your buddies. Do your job please. Later.

What "typical American Foods" would you serve to foreigners?

Mexican . I guess typical American foods are a plethora of immigrants who brought their recipes to America and cooked with the ingredients available . There is a large influx of great Mexican food here in California. We would have to go out for that. I would leave cooking their cuisine to the pros. I never came across Mexican food in Italy.

What makes you sick or react that you love?

Eating peanuts, snacks, ice cream , before bedtime. I'll wake up three hours later with a bad case of heartburn, which I call the yack yacks.

Service Dogs Get Couple Kicked Out of Restaurant

Yea, they're disabled alright. I think they make a wonderful couple. If I say anymore here, I'm sure the mods will delete my post. You can just guess what I have to say.

I've never used a Crock Pot . I have some questions.

Thanks for all your info. The pork shoulder was a success. I started with a 4.4 pound bone in shoulder. I did brown the fat cap. Added a half onion, three garlic cloves, around a quarter cup of Dr Pepper mixed with 3/4 the Coca Cola from Mexico.I added the cola after three hours , and about a tablespoon of salt. The last half hour pulled out most of the liquid and set on high. Total cooking time was seven hours.
I made some cabbage slaw to add to the pork sliders. Topped it on the pork, with some cheap hamburger buns and Sweet Baby Rays BBQ sauce. Delicious. Thanks again.

Cooking on a hotel steam iron

I guess they love me. Never have cooked in the room. When I leave I pickup all the bath towels and stack them. All garbage and bottles go in the garbage can, semi make the bed , and leave a tip.

Hash browns and eggs.

I'm cooking lowfat for my elderly dog, post-pancreatitis and thought I'd share

I love the labs. They are true chowhounds. Gulp, gulp, gulp. I'm done. Got any more of that. I don't care what kind of food you give me.

Would you give up cooking or eating?

I couldn't give up either. I was only able to eat one ounce of food per day. Eat whatever you like, but spend less than ten minutes cooking a day.
I see a deep dark place. Where junkies hang out.

Does Fast Food Really Make People Fat?

I don't know if it makes you fat. For myself I find when I eat fast food, potato chips, ice cream, cookies, etc..... I find myself craving it . Is it modern science that makes you want more ? I like it, but I really try to avoid it.

I've never used a Crock Pot . I have some questions.

Great info from all of you. For pulled pork sounds like no need to brown first. I'm thinking of adding a small amount of cola or Dr Pepper to the pot. A little onion and garlic. Salt. I'll be home so I will start it on high for a couple hours, then turn to low. I expect around eight to ten hours. Looking forward to this. Most likely I will use it for tacos or maybe use it for pulled pork sliders. With the left overs I will add to beans that I will make in the crock pot.

Barbless hooks is the best way to fish. Easy to release.

I've never used a Crock Pot . I have some questions.

I was just given a 7qt Rival. I am planning on cooking a pork shoulder, bone in between four and five pounds this weekend for the trial run . Thinking of making pulled pork, tacos, or ? Something completely different. Doesn't have to be pork.
Questions.
1) Should I brown the meat first ?
2)How much liquid should I add If any. Would like to add some Cola. I always wanted to try it in a braise and never have.
3)The settings are low and high. Do you alternate between both or just set it on one or the other and leave it ?
4) What should I expect for cooking time ? Say it's pulled pork.

Glad to hear your suggestions and ideas . I'm not into searching the old posts.
Thanks

Memorable food stories

I was at my best friends house. I was around ten. I always loved the food that his mom cooked. Nonna the grandmother was cooking this Sunday dinner. We were told to go out and shoot some sparrows for dinner. We got are bb guns and did so. It must be going on fifty years and I will never forget the smell and taste of the sparrow and rosemary served with polenta.

Tell us what we need to do to save this site? PLEASE.

Pretty much nothing. I looked at boardreader for the first time. Number of traffic has gone up since the change. Was it really big. Maybe, maybe not. You will slow down to look at the train wreck. Look how much everybody is griping, me included. Seems to be working. It's not about the posts. It's about the hundred thousand plus a day on the site having a glimpse of the advertising. I left my cottage cheese out all night is it safe to eat? C'mon I love it.

I've never been a *Quick* Cook

Me neither. I thought I was the only one. My friends expect it from me after all the years. I have to do something before I do something. I am slow as hell. Must be a type of OCD. But the food sure comes out good. I feel fortunate to be able to do this.

Pacific rock crab. I'm loving it.

He says a distributor will take a thousand pounds a week. Then brings them up to San Francisco. There are only a couple people fishing for them. No one is buying them because people don't know about them. Sounds like a extremely small market. I would love to see these in the store. I love the Dungeness when they are in season. But these are year round. Maybe it's time to create the demand. The supply is there.

Pacific rock crab. I'm loving it.

Just pulled these crab out of the steamer. Largest one is seven inches, others are around six. Compared to Dungeness I think the meat is a little sweeter. This is the first time I ever had rock crab.
A friend who is a commercial fisherman is now fishing for these in the Monterey bay. Apparently you can fish them year round with no limit. Any body else tried rock crab ? It's pretty exiting that I can get local crab year round.

Battered Fries. Are they french fries?

Battered French fries. That's a bad idea. I would have looked down at my plate in disbelief. That's a different item for sure. You just ruined my fries.

Clueless cook with parents dropping by (long)

No sweat. They probably already know you don't cook much. Have fun. Maybe look into having dinner at Mama Papa restaraunt in Alameda. Supposed to have great Lithuanian food. It's a start.

It would totally bother me. Sounds like. Oh, poor me. Best to wrap it up and give it to her to go.

Looking for light and upbeat or soothing conversational cooking shows

Keith is still one of my favorites. Sorry he passed. I cooked the fish dish he made in Monterosso. I liked the great pesto with out the cheese served with a little hand made pasta. I remember standing in that same spot.

I like New Scandinavian Cooking. Great scenery, cooking outdoors, with some history and culture. And a cool soundtrack.
