Need Boone, NC Recs

I went to Pepper's recently and got the shrimp and grits. NOT GOOD! They put way too much pork... whatever pork product it was... I could not tell and my server didn't know either. Plus, the shrimp wasn't as advertised: "extra large jumbo". In addition, the flavor wasn't good. It was too peppery and oily. The salad bar was alright, but they used grape tomatoes instead of cherry and didn't give you a proper knife to cut the vegetables with. They are probably cutting back on costs, but ugh! What a disappointment!

So good that you make it over and over again (or at least 3 times!)

My grandmother's Sour Cream Cornbread, Seven Layer Salad (with Homemade Ranch), and Gloria's Chicken and Broccoli Casserole. Also, Ina's Homemade Balsamic Vinaigrette. If anyone is interested in the recipe, I may give it to you. (I may hold onto the Sour Cream Cornbread, though.)

Is it Just Me?...

I'm loving it too. Robert Irvine is a good coach. There's something special about the way he interacts with restaurant owners and staff that makes me want to keep watching.

Best Italian preferably near RDU

The Eggplant Rolatini at Casalinga was excellent. The lunch buffet is nice because you can try a variety of things. It's hearty. The restaurant has soul, which is accentuated by the fact that it is a bona fide hole-in-the-wall. The staff is warm. I like it.

Casalinga is on Capital Blvd. They have a lunch buffet that features several authentic items that my pallet hadn't been introduced to. If you are in Raleigh and want Italian around lunchtime, you MUST go to Casalinga for their lunch Buffet! I copied some info for you:

I am glad to have found a fellow Paula fan! It takes a very gutsy woman to take nothing but her family recipes and traditions and become successful by popularizing or characterizing them even. I wish I had thought of that! Her recipes have saved my ass on many family occasions. They're easy to execute and everyone always likes them.

I loved it when she told Antonia, "I could bend you over my knee and whoop your cute little ass!" Antonia was on the top in this episode... Maybe it's because I'm from the south or because Paula reminds me of my mother when she's in a good mood, but I'll go to the mat for her too.

Did you catch Marcel's response to Carla who jokingly asked Tiffany if she would trade sous chefs? He said, "She chose the white shrimp". That was my favorite comment!

How to Make Fijis

I'm going to make these and take them to my neighbors and pressure them to buy them from me... Eat your heart out Girl Scouts!

Fried Chicken, Frozen Custard, and Barbecue

I love how you captured the 'slow drop' of Goodberries Frozen Custard. I moved to Raleigh a few years ago and finally found my favorite concoction. A Parfait with chocolate frozen custard, layered with marshmallow cream and malt powder (and when I'm feeling really froggy... I'll add caramel.) Luscious!
