Your cake must have looked beautiful! When I was a young my mom would dust violets with sugar and put them on homemade vanilla ice cream. It was so creative--my sisters and I loved it.

I just made these for the first time last week--they're delicious and super easy! I'm not sure if this has been mentioned yet, but I rolled mine in unsweetened cocoa powder and it worked great. The truffles are already so sweet so the bitterness of the cocoa helped balance the flavor. Not to mention, they looked simple and beautiful.

I just came across a recipe for candied pecans that calls for orange juice. They recommend serving the nuts over a salad. A homemade orange-mustard vinaigrette paired with candied nuts would make a delicious pair over mixed greens!

Ingredients:
2 cups sugar
3/4 cup orange juice
1 tbsp. zest
3 cups pecan halves

Instructions:
Mix orange juice and sugar in a 2-quart saucepan. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat and cook about 15 to 20 minutes, to the soft-ball stage (235°F degrees on candy thermometer). Be sure not to overcook. Remove from heat. Add orange peel and pecans. Stir until mixture turns a creamy color, about 7 to 10 minutes. Pour onto waxed paper. When cool, break apart and store in airtight container. Makes 3 cups.
