Restaurants for Grown Ups

Thanks again for all your help. I've made reservations at Le Jardin Bistro and Taralucci & Vino and am waiting for my friends to comment. Everyone's been so helpful.

Love Casa Mono but not a place that is conducive for lingering and conversing.

We love Gotham and go there often and are now delighted to have All'Onda near by. But yes, Gotham would be too high for our evenings out together and they really didn't like All"onda either!!! We used to go to Apiary with them all the time until Scott Bryan left and Jenni had to eventually close the place due to some really bad business decisions. It was a great loss to the neighborhood.

Hi foodwhisperer. Da Andrea is just a few blocks from me and have been many times though not in the last few years. Has the cooking improved? It's a good thought. Don't like Il Continori or Knickerbocker both just up the block. Wish I did. Aqua Grill also a good thought. Thanks

Thanks. Have been to almost all. In fact I really got reamed out just the other night at Gato, which we really like. Have a res. at Batard for the end of the month and have not yet been to Bar Primi.

EMP is definitely break the bank for a casual get together. Maialino, Riverpark and Hearth work. Lupa is still too noisy. Haven't been to the new Le Jardin Bistro, Supper or Taralucci e Vino and will check them out. The noise does get to be more and more of a problem as you get older. Glad you're not yet effected. Thanks.

Thank you. These are both new to me and will check them out to see that the menu fits our friends who are less adventurous that we. We love them anyway and have since childhood.

Thanks so much Bob,

I've been considering Maialino and love Lavangna, but it's a bit too far east for our friends. I didn't mention that they don't drink wine so Via Emilia is not a contender. The other two on you list are new to me and I will investigate. Thanks for taking the time.

Restaurants for Grown Ups

We are in our 70's and, while we consider ourselves foodies, we have dinner with good friends biweekly who are often offended by the noisy restaurants we pick. So I am really having a hard time finding places for us to eat that are not break the bank but offer food worth eating in a an environment where conversation is still possible (without shouting) between 34th and Houston on the east side. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Craving sundried tomatoes from Joe's Dairy

Thanks so much. Have tried DiPalo's and found them bland. Will try Faicco's since I go there to get their sweet fennel sausage. Don't know about Alleva but will research it. I really miss Joe's. Thought the family might sell the recipe but no such luck! That is, so far.

Cooking lessions in Paris

My husband and I will be in Paris for a week and would love to do a private or not cooking class. Have heard about Paris by Mouth and Wendy Lyn at the Paris Kitchen. We are experienced good cooks and take lessons wherever we go. Would love your thoughts.

Palm Beach Musts

Thanks for all the help re our 2 days in Miami. We, NYC foodies, will also be in Palm Beach for 4 nights staying with friends. Would love chowhounders input on what not to miss in the area. We love all kinds of food and, while we don't mind paying a pretty penny, we're into good value for that pretty penny. So no over the top tourist places please.

Thanks,
Ann Morris

Quiet Italian near Jade Hotel (13th and sixth ave)

Da Andrea is good not great. The mussels are a real buy and quite good. Went to Crispo once and never went back. Thought is was highly overrated. Po can be a very nice "village" experience and the food much sophisticated than Da Andrea. If money is no object, why not go to Gotham where you will get a very good meal in a lovely environment. il Cantanori is up the block from me and, unfortunately, I have had too many disappointing meals there to ever recommend it. You might also consider Apiary, 3rd ave. and 10th. Wonderful new American and on Zagat's list of most underrated restaurants in NYC. Happy eating whatever you choose to do.

2 days in Miami

Thanks. I actually knew that about the 3 you mentioned but appreciate you taking to time to inform in case I hadn't. So what do you think of Versailles. I notice you are very active on the Miami board and would love to know your opinion. any other suggestions would be much appreciated as well.

2 days in Miami

Puerto Sagua was mentioned on another thread as was Versailles, a funny name for a Cuban restaurant. Great to know there are still some good ones.

thanks so much for your input. I've seen Michael's Genuine and Michy's mentioned quite a bit. Yardbird is new and I'll check out the menu.

2 days in Miami

My husband and I will be visiting family and friends in Florida and are taking 2 days for ourselves in Miami at the Mandarin Oriental. We live in Manhattan and love food. I've read many of the very informative postings but am still yearning for recommendations for really good Cuban food. We'd prefer to stay in the city but will have a car and can travel if the food warrants it.

I also love cacio e pepe. I often have it at it's name sake restaurant on 2nd ave. because it's in my neighborhood. I've also loved the one at Eately at the pasta bar. Though I've never had it at Lupa there pasta is generally fabulous. If you're ever in New Paltz, NY you will not be disappointed at A Tavola's version.
