Top Ribs in FLA

Okay.... It looks like I'm moving to St Lucie area in early 2012 so I need to start learning about the restaurants in Florida. First I'll look into ribs (not que....ribs) Can anyone update the list below, eliminating closed joints and adding new ones. I'm sure others will appreciate it as well.

From August 2006 to October 2011 these joints were nominated in this. I've deleted duplicates and negative reviews. I think I got them all but I'm half asleep atm so may have missed one.
I'm still learning the towns so I may have street names instead of cities. Thank You...Rick

Corned Beef Hash and Eggs

I don't know what started it but for the last 2 weeks or so I've had the urge for corned beef hash and eggs. I've been to several diners and they all have the same canned hash with lousy potatoes. I live in Bergen County and would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

Best BBQ in Bergen County?

Sounds like a plan. BTW... Has anyone heard about the status of the Dinosaur Barbecue that is supposed to open in Jersey City?

North Jersey Barbecue

Try Texas Smoke In Rockaway, off 80. I recommend the brisket highly. I've been there several times and haven't been disappointed yet. They also offer que by the pound for take out; an option I have never failed to pass up.
There is also Hot Rod's in Wharton.
I seem to remember Bourbon BBQ's newsletter saying they would be open July/August but I haven't been around for the last two months so I can't confirm it.
As for Fink... I think we are all witnessing the slowest run for the Canadian border in history. (River Edge to Teaneck to Blauvelt to Pearl River) The man just can't resist a smoker when he sees one.

Blue Moon Lobster Mac 'n Cheese

Have made this twice and it was a hit the second time. LOL (I made a mistake the first time and we had lobster/mac/cheese bread... My bad.)
Third time I substituted 2 lbs of Phillips canned lump crabmeat and it rocked the house.
Great recipe overall. Highly recommended!!!!

Where to buy quality salt?

I can only answer for Northern NJ but Chef Central in Paramus had a fair selection. If you want to save time and gas go to the Bulk Foods website.
They sell several types of salt in different sizes as well as other spices and goodies. The S/H is only 5.00 for any order over 75.00 so there are bargains to be found here.

What's New in Bergen County, NJ?

We're well into 2008 and I'm in a bit of a rut.
I think I need some new Bergen County restaurants to go to.
Does anyone have a new one to recommend?
Anything but artsy fartsy French style will do just fine, LOL

Thanks in advance!

Polish Food

There are a ton of mom and pop restaurants and Polish delis in the Garfield - Wallington area. Royal Warsaw in Elmwood Park is a good " goin' out to dinner" place.
Look to the White Eagle Deli in Garfield for great Polish take out for lunch.

Pastrami sandwiches in Bergen County?

Kosher Nosh in Glen Rock is my favorite. Generous sandwiches at reasonable prices combined with friendly service. It is consistently good. They have great brisket as well.

Noah's Ark in Teaneck is good but a bit more pricey. The servers tend to lean towards indifference most of the time. It's OK but I don't go out of my way to get there.

Petak's in Fair Lawn is good but the size and quality varies from time to time. When they are good they are very good, if you know what I mean. Take out only.

Harold's II is very good too. They make a good pastrami. It is takeout only so be ready to eat as soon as possible to get a good hot sandwich.

One other place is actually in Parsippany in Morris County. The next time you are in the area check it out. Bring friends because the sandwiches are huge. The prices are too but you get enough for 2-3 people. No joke. The quality of the pastrami is high end supermarket but tasty overall.

Best Sushi in Bergen County

My favorite is Sakura Bana in Ridgewood. Great food and service. Super selection. Never had anything I was disappointed by. Tends to be a zoo during lunch so be prepared. Weekends are busy but bearable. Dinner is usually crowded but you will get seated quickly. We always seem to order a platter to go when we are ready to leave.

I like Mei Sushi in Fair Lawn too. It's small, quiet and has good, moderately priced food and attentive service. Once they get to know you they will start offering you different items from the "special" selections. Most are really good. Some can be scary. LOL

Last but not least is Minado in Little Ferry. It is a huge all you can eat buffet style setup. Surprisingly good sushi as well as a good selection of hot offerings. You will recognize most of the items but a few things are out of the ordinary. When you are in a group and want to pig out on sushi / sashimi this is the place to go. A large portion of customers are Asian; If you want to use that as a gauge.

I hope these get you started. There are many other good places in Bergen with new restaurants opening all the time. Good eating and “Kampai!”.

Buffalo wings in Bergen County?

Orange Lantern in Paramus has decent wings in an assortment of flavors.
You may also want to try Scardino's Pizza in Lodi. They have very good wings. I've been told they are Cluck-U sauces but I won't swear by that.

Best Jersey Diners (Lots good eats, little $)

My votes go to the Park West Diner in Little Falls and the Chester Hills Diner in Chester.
Both have always been consistent in high quality food. The Chester Hills Diner has some of the best specials I've seen in a diner.

Bergen County Seafood?

Can anyone recommend a good, dependable, and reasonably priced fish monger in Bergen County, NJ?

I've given up on Bourbon BBQ. Three trips there so far and not one decent meal.
Cubby's sucks. End of discussion.
Bailey's in Blauvelt, NY is very good MOST of the time. We had some stinko que there once or twice. but it's usually good.
Famous Dave's is actually not too bad for a chain. Good in a pinch.
Hot Rod's in Wharton has good stuff but tends to be LOUD. Get it to go.
Front Street in Elizabeth has never disappointed.
CC's BBQ in Haledon has some of the best Memphis style ribs and Vinegar based pulled pork in NJ.
The New Barbeque Pit in Bergenfield serves ribs that knock my socks off. A blend of Southern/Asian ribs that are fantastic. Pulled Pork is great too. Be aware that this is a Filipino joint so you may not recognize 90% of the menu. They also do whole hogs if you have a party.
Hope this helps.

Backyard Smokers?

OK, I'm about to make the fateful leap into the world of smoking my own meats.
I need some insight into the subject and some suggestions on smokers that offer the best value for the dollar. I'm looking to do pork, brisket, turkeys and sausage. I'd like to try to keep it under $300 if at all possible but I don't want to buy something that I will replace in 2 years.

BBQ near Austin

Sam's in Austin is greaat. Take the time to make the pilgrimage to Lockhart, but beware, you may never want to leave there.

Hungarian Paprika

Actually there are 3 types of Paprika. Sweet, Hot and Smoked, which is excellent on staeks with some kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper. Use it when the grill is closed for the season and you are pan frying steaks.

Bourbon County BBQ Smokehouse in Wycoff, NJ

Been there twice. First time Ribs and brisket were a greasy mess. Pork was served in one inch cubes and was bland. Sausage was good. Mac and cheese was cold and tasteless. Things got better (sic) the secnd time. The ribs were very good. Well seasoned with a good bark. However, the brisket was burnt and dry. We all were gagging and downing our drinks. The poThe pork was better, having been served pulled, with a litle more flavor. Sausages were still good and the mac and cheese was off the menu while they "worked on it". Sauces aren't bad but would be augmented by a NC style offering. Give them time. They are working out the bugs. I wonder if there is a smoke ordinance in Wycoff because there wasn't a bit of smoke noticed by any of us.
