The Fresh Market coming to Montvale - Thoughts? according to the article in The Record, the county offered them $20mm but i guess Wegmans was willing to pay more, so its not as if it was taken away. what used to be farmland and not considered a true suburb of NYC 50 years ago, is no longer. its prime real estate now and that comes with a hefty cost burden. its too bad, bc it seems like all the local shops are being taken over by the "mall" stores-ugh. But agree, yay to wegmans, but its coming at a cost to the community. |

The Fresh Market coming to Montvale - Thoughts? according to the Bergen Record today, Depiero's is selling to Wegman's 27 or its 55 acres; which houses its huge produce market. according to the article, they will still farm in Montvale. |

The Fresh Market coming to Montvale - Thoughts? I am a Wegmans fan so when i saw this, i called Wegmans and spoke with Consumer Affairs. Yes, they are opening up in Montvale (Mercedes Dr and West Grand Ave) and it will open in about three years! as happy as i am about this news, i can't help but think it will be replacing Dipiero's (wegman's certainly did not say this, but i am making an assumption based on location); and if it is in fact being built there, I will have such mixed emotions. The official announcement came out April 30. |

Best Hamburger and Fries in Miami-CURRENT I am heading to Miami for the weekend and I would love to get your thoughts on the best hamburger and french fries in the area (aside from Shake Shack-not a fan). Venue can run the gamut, from greasy spoon to gournet delight. I do know there are other posts on this topic, but I am looking for the most current opinions. |

Good point! Diners have always been what they continue to be. You certainly dont go for haute cuisine but the good ones will produce a few good things (sometimes quite a few good things). I'll have to try Your Way Cafe. As for lunch, my fave place is Rolling Pin Cafe in Westwood. Havent had breakfast there, but the sandwiches and salads I've had are fabulous. They are only open for breakfast and lunch. ----- |

I do agree. There are a few waitstaff at the Ridge that are unfriendly and at times rude. Although, I will say, the owner and hostess have never been anything but accomodating and super friendly. Based on where we live, we have pretty easy access to Rockland diners as well, and the ones we've been to are very good, so for us anyway, going to the Ridge is by choice. If you ever have a hankering for a great breakfast (and the most yummy burnt homefries), try Jack's in Westwood. And the ppl that work there are very, very friendly and enthusiastic. |

Your incident at the Ridge is truly unfortunate. Going to a diner, I really never expect the wait staff to be anything other than as efficent as possible in bringing out the food. The Ridge is our favorite diner and living in WCL, naturally, we go often. It's funny, after having eaten at Matthews Diner three times now (my s-i-l lives in Waldwick), twice for lunch and once for breakfast, I can honestly say I find their food putrid. What diner doesn't have matzo ball soup on the menu?? We love the Ridge's desserts (many are homemade) and their patty melt is beyond words amazing. Matthews chicken salad was flooded with not even mayo, but what tasted like miracle whip and the meat is mostly dark meat. I couldnt even bring myself to drink a cup of hot water b/c there was a spoiled stench inside the coffee mug. And it wasnt my opinon alone. My mother was visiting and could barely touch her plate. In my opinion, Matthews is as broke as a rehab clinic named after Charlie Sheen, but it is a convenient location for many and like anything else, old habits die hard. |
