Best Dishes 2013

You can have it solo but you'll have to take home leftovers (not a bad thing). The dish big enough for three people.

What is your favorite dessert place in Manhattan?

I love Benoit for classic French desserts. During Sunday brunch you can have unlimited desserts for $18!

Did you know ...

Is the risotto with truffles an off the menu item that's only available upon request? I didn't see it on the website and I think white truffles are still in season.

All good choices. If any of them are too crowded try Cercle Rouge or Odeon.

Best lemon meringue pie?

Ed's Chowder House has a great lemon meringue pie though I'm not sure if it's available to go. Might be worth inquiring though.

Groupon Reserve

Groupon just launched an online discount reservations system, similar to Savored but without any pre-purchase requirement. The participating restaurants include Aquavit, Picholine, DB Bistro Moderne, and The Leopard at des Artistes.

BIG Birthday Adventure for Coolest Chic EVER. - Please Help!

Even though it's a bit difficult to reconcile words like "sultry," "cool" and "adventure" with places like Luger and Yasuda, if you're looking for something new and chow-worthy you could look into Eater's Manhattan Heat Map:
http://ny.eater.com/archives/2013/03/...

My picks on that list: The Marrow, Le Philosophe. You might also consider Louro which has a huge fan base on Chowhound. Perla, Acme, Tertulia and Il Buco A&V have been open for a while but are still going strong. The folks behind Torrisi just opened Carbone but I haven't been there yet.

Guest arriving (1st time in US) in 3 hrs - last minute ideas?

Where is your guest coming from?

Fairway is very casual. While the food is good, the service can be spotty.

Depending on availabilty, if you're expensing the meal you could do something upscale with an American menu, such as:

Craft
Colicchio and Sons
Union Square Cafe
Perilla
The NoMad
WD-50
Tha Dutch

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think you can dine at the bar at The NoMad, whereas you can at The Breslin.

Best Fried Rice?

I'll have to try Spicy and Tasty.

My Filipina girlfriend keeps talking about fried rice with crab roe, or taba ng talangka, with lots of garlic, but doesn't know of any restaurant in NYC that serves it.
