where can i find puerto nuevo style lobster?

Gave them a call & they currently don't serve the spiny lobster meals (since the season ended March 16). But the last market price was very fair at $39 for a 1.5 lb. lobster served Puerto Nuevo style, with rice, beans, tortillas & salsa.
I think Coyote Grill has some real potential...not really close, but much closer than PN. I'll give them a try in the fall, when the spiny lobster season begins.

Great restaurants near the Four Seasons Punta Mita?

I had the understanding that the FS restaurants at that location were underwhelming, but it seems that it might be a bit more than that.

Best Iranian/Persian Food in L.A.??

Shirin Restaurant in Woodland Hills is very good & a good value as well. It can get very busy during lunchtime.

fantastic pastrami

I went to the Brent's Deli in Northridge & had the great hot pastrami with was just as good, if not even tastier than the one in Brent's Westlake Village. Maybe it was the retro, old school vibe in Northridge...similar in spirit to Langer's. The Westlake Village location is a much newer and nicer restaurant, but seems to have a little bit less soul than the older, funkier Northridge location. Now I just need to order the Black Pastrami Reuben next time...though not a big fan of reubens generally.

Great restaurants near the Four Seasons Punta Mita?

Thank you for the recommendations...I understand there is a very good restaurant at the St. Regis, while the FS has solid, if uninspired offerings. The Cafe des Artistes & the El Dorado will be on my to do list!

Late Night West Side Taco Trailer - Doing Big Business

The El Chato taco truck at Olympic & La Brea is a solid choice (and very busy) and delicious.

california spiny lobster season ending march 16

The Lobster just got in a new shipment today of 100 lbs. of live spiny lobsters...mostly in the 2.5-3 lb. sizes at $49/lb. The ambience of SB Shellfish & The Lobster are as different as any two seafood restaurants can be, but there's a time & place for both!

california spiny lobster season ending march 16

This current spiny lobster season is going to end March current favorite restaurant serving this tasty bug is the Santa Barbara Shellfish Co. at the end of Santa Barbara's Sterns Wharf. As of today, their market price is $32/lb. and they have spiny's weighing up to 4 lbs. Does anyone know of any restaurant in the LA or SFV area that also has fresh, live spiny lobsters?

TourEiffel restaurant in calabasas

Oh seems you do possess a rapier wit, sir...or madam? Let's hope for the sake of the owners this thread doesn't get out.

TourEiffel restaurant in calabasas

I usually wouldn't think of City Search as a resource, but I guess in this case, it does serve a function. However, it seems some of the reviews were for a previous restaurant that occupied the same space, Fins Seafood.

chowhound vs. yelp-pros & cons?

Got to agree with you on that...based on the OT & Yelp reviews thus far.

TourEiffel restaurant in calabasas

Just a quick followup...I was able to find one review on Yelp, over 20 on Open Table and 0 on Chowhound.

chowhound vs. yelp-pros & cons?

I agree with your experience...I also live in an outlying area of LA (Calabasas). I recently was interested in trying a relatively new restaurant that opened in Calabasas called Tour Eiffel. CH had zero information on it, Yelp had one review and Open Table had over 20 reviews.

Best Korean style shabu shabu ever, Seoul Gardens is maybe a 15 min. walk from Staples (ok for a group of guys, maybe not if a bunch of girls) or a blink of an eye by car.

What's with Susie Cakes?

Didn't try Susie Cakes' pies, but had their cakes & cupcakes (red velvet is their claim to fame) for many different occasions. Their design aesthetic is simple and home-made-ish, not artistic or architectural...the taste component is what they excel at. I think bulavinaka described it well. That being said, some people who have tried cakes from the high end asian bakeries may find SC's cakes to be sweeter and "heavier" tasting. But for a true Americana experience. can't do better than SC (IMHO).

Enoteca Drago deal in Beverly Hills..."$79 -- 5-Course Dinner for 2 at Elegant Italian Gem, Reg.$162"

Thanks for the insight...I will pass on this "deal". I've found some of these type of deals can be valid, but others are not (i.e. Groupon's FTD florist "deal").

(Money no object) Best Fish/Seafood restaurant in Santa Monica or Malibu

Had our wedding reception at Casa del Mar, so I know this hotel quite well...I agree the food will not disappoint and the location is just right. I'm a bit of a lobster fanatic, so I also would have to give my props to the Lobster!

chowhound vs. yelp-pros & cons?

I think both sites are useful, yet different in approach & design. Which do you find more useful & why?

Good Gringo Tacos?

Lucy's Mexican near the USC campus has a very old school gringo style taco that has been unchanged for the past's very good, if this is the kind of taco you're into. Otherwise, there are a couple of King Taco (El Taurino is part of the KT empire) branches nearby.

where can i find puerto nuevo style lobster?

I used to love going down to Puerto Nuevo for their lobsters, back in the day. The combination of home made spicy hot pico de gallo, hand made flour tortillas (no masa), rice, beans and that pan-fried in lard split lobster just was so addicting. Now I have a craving, but don't really want to make the drive down there. Anyone have a local substitute they can recommend?

What's with Susie Cakes?

I can only speak for the Susie Cakes in Calabasas, but I think in the realm of cupcakes, their red velvet is one of the gold standards out there. The frosting is amazing and they are able to maintain a high quality throughout the day. That being said, the value proposition is definitely not part of SC's virtues...I once ordered 4 dozen cupcakes, and asked if they might consider a quantity discount...short answer was sorry.

Emergency Bar !

You can get here even in heels and look good doing it...even in the rain ;)

surprising delicious asakuma sushi in moorpark (thousand oaks area)

Most Mondays, I have a meeting in Newbury Park and finding a great restauant nearby can be a task. Someone mentioned a new restaurant, Asakuma Sushi that just opened in Moorpark and said it was surprisingly delicious. So I gave it a try and was very surprised at how really good it was.

I had the special roll with rock shrimp & lobster tempura (#23 I think) that was just amazing...much better than anything at Katsuya or dare I say it, Nobu. Sometimes, finding a surprise like this in an unlikely place like Moorpark is very, very cool.
