Casual Seafood Lunch in St. Petersburg

We'll be passing through St Petersburg tomorrow and looking for a place to stop for lunch. Any good recommendations for the best casual fish sandwich kind of spot? Near the beach is a bonus but not a deal breaker...

Dinner near Barclay's Center in Brooklyn

Kaz an Nou is a great little French Caribbean BYOB spot around the corner from the Barclay Center. The food is always good and nothing beats bringing your own.
Other solid options are Chuko on Vanderbilt and Dean (if you're into ramen, this place has some of the best), or James on St. Marks/Carlton (they have a Sunday Supper for $30). Also, Morgan's BBQ recently opened on St.Marks/Flatbush, and I've heard good things about it. All of these places are walkable and well worth it!

How to turn fresh bread into day-old bread

Great, thanks so much for the (very scientific!) responses. I took your advice and it seemed to work, as gazpacho is now chilling in the fridge.

How to turn fresh bread into day-old bread

I'm making gazpacho and I need to have it done within the next couple of hours. All I have is a fresh baguette, as the store was out of the required day-old bread (and I clearly didn't prepare in advance). Any tips for making it seem a day old? What if I tear it into chunks and then put it in the oven for ten minutes or something?

What to Order at Sripraphai (Queens)?

Thanks everyone for the stellar tips. My favorites were the roasted duck salad and the penang curry. Will definitely be headed back there soon for more tasting...

What to Order at Sripraphai (Queens)?

Headed there tomorrow for dinner with some friends, and am wondering what dishes people recommend? There will be four of us so we'll have a chance to order quite a few dishes - what are the menu dos and don'ts? We eat pretty much everything...

Cupcake Rejuvenation?

Actually, that first idea worked perfectly. Five seconds under the broiler allowed the icing to be re-swirled looking as good as 48 hours ago. Thank you!!

Cupcake Rejuvenation?

I made cupcakes 2 days ago, and there are enough left over that I want to serve them for dessert tonight. They still taste great, but the homemade chocolate frosting has formed that hard layer/crust on top. Clearly I failed to put them in an air-tight container immediately, but failure aside... what's the best way to refresh the icing so that they give off that just-baked appearance? And adding a fresh layer on top is not an option, as there's no more icing left.

Thanks in advance for all your wisdom!

Freezing seasoned meat?

Yesterday I bought a 4lb. rib eye roast, seasoned it with all over with a rub, and was about to throw it in the pressure cooker when I realized it was going to be WAY too much meat for the number of people eating. So I only cooked half of it, and its seasoned other half is currently sitting in my fridge. Can I freeze the meat with the rub on it, or is this a bad idea?

Restaurant Deals by Day in Brooklyn?

I've been meaning for some time now to compile a list of all the restaurant deals available by day. The website Wined & Dined has something like this, but it's outdated and includes Manhattan (and really... who wants to go there?). So I'm putting it out there - what deals do you guys know of?

For example:
Sunday: Sunday Supper at 606 R&D ($25 for 3 courses)
Monday: $25 for 3 courses at Buttermilk Channel; $9 Burger Night at James
Tuesday: $12.50 for all you can eat mussels and frites at Le Gamin on Vanderbilt
Wednesday: All you can eat shrimp & beer for $30 at Bklyn Fish Camp

What do you got?

Need recommendations-date night in Carroll, Cobble, Red Hook

What about Petite Crevette? It's a romantic spot, very little hype, great seafood, and it's BYOB. Otherwise I would say Buttermilk Channel or Brucie on Court Street. Have fun!

Homemade Holiday Gifts that Travel

Thanks, everyone. In the end I decided to scrap the pesto idea, because it would have sucked to go to all that trouble and send them a spoiled product. Just as an epilogue, the box contained homemade: tagliatelle pasta, roasted nuts with cayenne and rosemary, maple granola, peanut-butter chocolate chip cookies, and savory cheese sticks. Yum!

Homemade Holiday Gifts that Travel

I'm sending a box of some homemade food gifts to the in-laws this year, but have a couple questions about what can travel without refrigeration.
1) Homemade pasta: If I make fresh cavatelli or linguine, can I just dry it out, package it up and send it? I'm sure it will be fine, but sometimes fresh pasta is in the cold section of the store...
2) Artichoke Lemon Pesto: I know the cheese in here should be refrigerated, but sometimes I see sealed jars of this stuff on the shelves in markets. What's the difference? Will five nights in a box really spoil it?
Not trying to poison the in-laws...

really good seafood and/or greek reataurant in Park Slope

Not too sure about Greek food, but Brooklyn Fish Camp has good seafood and is right in the heart of Park Slope. They also have a happy hour every day until 8, which is solid.

If you're willing to venture a little further over, Littleneck in Gowanus is even better. Don't leave without ordering one of their clam roles.

Restaurant Ideas for a Wedding Present?

Thanks for all the great responses. In the end I went with Colonie - it's a great place and their website makes it so damn easy to design your own giftcard! On a side note: very excited to try Battersby, so thanks for that tip-off.

Long live the happy couple.

Restaurant Ideas for a Wedding Present?

Some friends of mine are getting married, and I'm toying with the idea of getting them a gift certificate to a fancy restaurant in Brooklyn. Ideally I'd like to stick close to their Carroll Gardens zip code, but I guess Williamsburg would be okay too. Looking to spend around $150, which unfortunately rules out Brooklyn Fare.

Grocery?
Vinegar Hill House?
Other thoughts?
