Help us decide on an Italian restaurant for early December girls trip...

I've been loving the Joe Campanale places: L'artusi, dell'anima, l'apicio and anfora for wine and cichhetti

Restaurant or bar with a view?

Visitors from Australia want a classic NYC skyline view which is best seen off the island. Your being literal doesn't help the OP plan her visit.

In order to see Manhattan you can't actually be on Manhattan. Maybe post to Outerboroughs or Jersey boards.

Or you can get up high and look at if from above Asiate, rooftop at Ink48, The Press Lounge.

N.Y.C. visit

I don't think you're thinking of Barbuto as this sounds nothing like it.

It's in a garage-like space where the the door is lifted in warmer months. Incredibly loud, in the far west village, attached to Industria studios which creates a steady stream of photographers, models, stylists and industry people who use it as a commissary of sorts. It's Jonathan Waxman's place - known for casual California style Italian (if that makes sense).

Are you thinking of Barbetta? That's an old restaurant row place for old folks from Jersey.

While we're at it, review our dining itinerary?

I had a wonderful dinner there on Labor Day. Really great service and nicely prepared food. Pastas are great. Wine by the glass program better than most these days. Give it another try.

Oceana is kinda corporate boring. And since you're from SEA you get great seafood. Toloache?

You still have no Italian which is one of NY's strengths.

It was also a service issue. She didn't like that the manager didn't honor her request to remove the $10 additional charge for the duck course as he felt her having eaten 3/4 of it didn't warrant removal.

Nothing expensive in lower Manhattan

Your excitement is palpable. Welcome. You are all over the place though! And sprang the kids in the last sentence. BTW, It's Katz not Kantors (sic) (LA). And when New Yorkers talk about Lower Manhattan that is a much smaller area. As in the very tip - financial district. You've labeled 2/3 of the island as 'lower manhattan'.

If I may be so bold as to share a useful link from our board Queen Kathryn, please see the first response on this thread:

Vernor's ginger ale anywhere in Brooklyn?

Recent google search uncovers: "In New York, Vernors has been known to pop into the case at Brooklyn's Court Street Grocers."

Don't see it for sale on-line but maybe call/tweet the stores?

The Park is terrible. For post Highline options try: Barchetta, Empire Diner, Scarpetta, even Colicchio and Son.

Why Angus Bistro? Meh. Just a pub.

Identita Golose sounds like fun!

How about Betony, Batard? No high-end sushi?

For Italian I'm loving dell'anima and l'artusi lately.

One Night In NYC + Brunch

How exciting! If you are looking for one of the top places in NYC, post back about 45 days prior. Most places won't take reservations before 30 days. And the fall brings a lot of great new openings.

You can also do a search for "theater" as many visitors ask for this same information. (search is top right box in the corner)

Wine bar or French brasserie-near Grand Central?

"Anything worth while..even if I have to venture out of midtown? "

Your post is confusing.

Wine or cocktails? French brasserie or wine bar? Midtown or the entirety of Manhattan?

There's a lot worthwhile depending upon what you prefer. Happy to help.

Empire Diner Chelsea hits its stride

Skirt steak with parsley butter and crispy fingerling potatoes. Boiled fingerlings, smashed and fried. Yup. Pretty great. $25 Really good wines by the glass. Great grenache/syrah Cotes du Rhone for $10. Beautiful classic diner space. I'd been there when it first opened and just didn't like the food. It's on point now.

If it means anything to readers, celeb spottings galore: Carly Rae Jepsen with a friend, astounded they didn't have soy milk. Hillary Swank eating a gigantic chocolate sundae. Whoopi stopping out front in a big black SUV to let out a friend, take a pic with fans and be on her way. And this was Saturday at 6PM.

Chef Amanda Freitag in kitchen, came out to say hello to friends/diners.
