Eating our faces off, any suggestions?

I love Sietsema and his encyclopedic knowledge of ethnic eats in all 5 boroughs.

Time out has a great list too, and is searchable:

Brunch at Tavern on the Green

It's a sh-t show. Not brunch specifically but dinner was when I went about 3 months ago. Reviews are terrible such that the chef was replaced with a famous name to come in soon in a last effort.

I wouldn't. It's expensive too.

What type of cuisine do you NOT like?

It disappoints me as well when people say they hate Mexican food then talk about burritos and fajitas and nachos. I've traveled a lot in Mexico and find it a varied, even sophisticated, highly local and culturally significant cuisine.

In fact, Mexican cuisine was added by UNESCO to its list of the world’s "intangible cultural heritage."

Can anyone help me with the name of this Theater District restaurant?

Depending upon where their theater is - these are nearby though not Theater District proper as celebratory high-end, quality options there are not very good.

The Modern
Betony

maybe even Butter

Nope. Not with the thousands of other options in the city.

Looking for help with one more restaurant choice

I recommended Aquavit. Marcus Samuelsson hasn't been with Aquavit for approximately ten years, so no, he doesn't cook there. The restaurant received its first Michelin star last year and its second this year. Neither had anything to do with Samuelsson.

What bygone food fad do you still enjoy? [NYC]

I've been wondering what the majority of this thread has to do with NYC. This board rarely goes off topic.

Experience The Lounge at DANIEL, another side of Chef Daniel Boulud’s renowned Manhattan restaurant. Equally as distinctive as the main dining room, The Lounge offers the same service and cuisine as our main dining room. Complete prix-fixe and tasting menus are available, along with à la carte options not available in our dining room. Savor an imitable fine dining experience or drop in for an appetizer, cocktail, or a late night dessert with Champagne."

We call it Koreatown. That is, if you're doing a search for it (upper right corner)

ISO: Best White Truffle Deal at Retail

As of today $100 per oz at Buon Italia. $168 at Eataly. Hence, way cheaper at BI.

Brunch for 12 NYC

You'd better get moving on this STAT. You'll def need a place that takes reservations and they may make you order from a prix fixe with that large a group. Perhaps not for brunch.

Modern Austrian (though I have not been to either in over three years) Wallse, Blaue Gans. Some on this board like Seasonal as well.

Smith and Wollensky is not a top tier steakhouse any longer.

Cassoulet - I don't love it because it is so heavy, but I do like Raoul's. (Have not had it this season though)

50th BIrthday Party for 4-5 guys

When is this? What day of the week? As we get into the holidays availability will become an issue.

Budget range? Price per person? With/without drinks?

Since you mention steakhouse sounds like $150-$200 per person would be ok?

Steak:
Minetta Tavern
Costata

Italian:
Scarpetta
Lupa

Thanksgiving Orphans

We're dining at Narcissa. Chose it over Picholine at last minute. Doesn't matter to us if it's a special menu or not though.

Tipping at an upscale sushi restaurant, at the bar, with no tip jars

I've never seen the itamae drink at 15 East. I saw Yasuda-san drink beers at Yasuda before his departure.

There is no bartender there. (Because there is no [liquor] bar.) You sit at the sushi bar and the waiter/waitress/somm come to you... from the side.

15 East is probably one of my favorite places in Manhattan (where I live) and I've been there about 15 times.
