Fun dining experience for daughter's 16th b-day

This comes up often. Anything here (and a thread referenced therein)?

http://chowhound.chow.com/topics/1003...

You may wish to add more details as to when, how many, budget, is she a young 16 or on the more sophisticated side?

Also, search box in upper right corner may help uncover other threads.

1 year anniversary - small, seasonal and intimate.

I find Costata rather dark and sexy... for a steakhouse. He'll like it. It is not your typical slab of beef with potato side and asparagus, so you too should find something.

Raoul's has an intimate yet buzzy ambiance and a menu you'd both like though not very farm to table-y.

Rouge et Blanc is small and romantic but food isn't incredible - take a look at menu to see if the French-Viet menu appeals. Anyone been recently? How's the food these days?

How about Mas (farmhouse)?

Eataly?

Also know that you can get a glass of wine with your certificate at the area called La Piazza (near cheese and salumi counters) and shop while drinking it. So civilized.

You'll want to post this question on the Outerboroughs board as well then.

You'll be fine. You have a good sense of what you like and some lovely suggestions.

As an aside... you should see the NYC Toro vs the Washington St original. Day and night. Not necessarily better. Totally different feel.

Dinner in Manhattan for memorable occasion, but not $$$$$$$$

You've got a bunch of mediocre / 'nothing special' options on your list:

They may good for what they are, but in no way the same caliber as a GT, Marea, Batard, Betony. Those below I would remove. There are a few on your list I'd never heard of: that Greek place for example, Amata, BV Grill

AMATA Cucina Italiano

BV Grill

The Smith East Village

Seafire Grill

The Smith Lincoln Center

The Smith Midtown

Grand Tier

Agreed about The Breslin. It is not even close to being Cheers-esque and I don't understand that comment at all.

It is within a very trendy hipster hotel, The Ace. The lobby has a DJ spinning and the light of 100 Apple Airbooks. Look at the menu - it's not burgers and wings and nachos. The chef is April Bloomfield, who started at The Spotted Pig which is owned by Mario Batali, Jay-Z and Bono. Cheers? Riiiight.

FWIW I lived in Boston for 6 years and visit quarterly.
