PDX to NYC Late May - Research done, but would appreciate some help

Solid list w/ two exceptions. I wasn't impressed with Juni and find the room to precious and dated. Same with Toqueville.

Planning French themed birthday, need help with the desserts!!!

Financier is not very good.

Try:
Pomme Palais
Francois Payard
Dominique Ansel
Eclair Bakery

And a step down would be La Bergamote.

Solo omakase

I can't think of anything more perfect than omakase for a solo diner as you eat at the sushi bar.

Quiet Saturday Supper near Grand Central

Disclaimer: I've only ever eaten lunches but each over 10 times.

Laguna:
I like their PAPPARDELLE CON RAGÚ D’AGNELLO
The BF likes the SPAGHETTI ALLE VONGOLE

At Ammos the grilled whole fish is the way to go.

There's also Benjamin's steakhouse. Petite Sirloin. I like their steak much more than Capital Grille.

I worked in Chrysler building and lunched out a lot in that area.

Good mexican restaurant in Manhattan?

My bad - I am sure they are freshly squeezed juices, from fruits picked at the height of their in-season ripeness. You can just TASTE the goodness :p

Good mexican restaurant in Manhattan?

There's a lot wrong with it: a chain no better than an Applebee's or TGIFriday's that is sort of a punchline to "real' barbecue. Lots of low quality ingredients, caters to the masses. Disgustingly sweet, oversized drinks with high fructose corn syrup, oils, fats, gelatinous sauces.

It's about quantity vs quality.

Need to find a Vietnamese restaurant that is semi upscale

What you want doesn't exist. Vietnamese is not strongly represented in NYC.

Drinks near Minetta Theater?

How about OTTO? One my favorite things to do is late Sunday lunch at the bar with Dennis, the wonderful, knowledgeable, bartender. Not a place for mixology, but GREAT, esoteric wines, offered by the quartino.

Tips for NYC area food souvenirs (ingredients or products)?

I often see people mention egg creams and bialies as typical NY foods. I have lived here over 20 years and to me they are just not part of modern day NYC. What, are there two places in Manhattan to get acceptable versions of either of them? (Gem and Kossar's) The only worse rec of a "NYC" food that no one actually eats would be a knish.

I don't think I know anyone under the age of 80 who regularly enjoys either.

On Not Receiving Bread

huh?

Is your question whether Coda values your particular patronage because the waiter forgot your bread, even though you didn't really need, like or want it?

And why didn't you say, "Excuse me, could you check on bread service for us, please?"

New York Sky Line

To see the NYC skyline, you can't actually be in Manhattan. You'd have to be in Jersey or Brooklyn. Kinda how that works.
