Plum Review (Oakland)

i beg to differ with the earlier comments. We had dinner at Manresa last week and did the large tasting menu. We had dinner at Plum this evening . Did the 5 course tasting menu with the visiting chef from S. Carolina. No contest. Plum was better.

Manresa was pretty but felt like eating a sterile meal. Plum had soul. The food was savory.

We left Manresa still feeling a bit hungry. We left Plum with sense of total well being.

Manresa: 3.5 hours. Plum: 1.5 hours.

Manresa dinner was $800+. Plum was $210.

Only complaint: Plum service was inconsistent. What, you didn't get your desert? Opps.

Restaurant suggestions for 9 Course Dinner in SF Chinatown?

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. Looks like R&G is ahead.

On a tangent, any hole-in-the-wall gems in SF Chinatown for a 2-3 person lunch? (I work in the financial district so Chinatown is walking distance for lunch.) My old standby is Hunan Homes but it seemed more tired than usual last week.

Restaurant suggestions for 9 Course Dinner in SF Chinatown?

I am hosting a dozen business colleagues next month. Would like to host a traditional 9 course Chinese (Cantonese) dinner one evening. I know the better restaurants are not in Chinatown -- but my colleagues are staying at hotels on Nob Hill and Chinatown is most convenient.

Suggestions on Chinatown restaurants for a 9 course dinner? R&G Lounge and Great Eastern are already on my short list but I'm not blown away by either.

Thank you.
