Bar/lounge near Sidney St Cafe

Eesh. So sorry for the tardy reply. Need to change my settings here so I'm notified when someone responds to my thread! I blogged about our experience so maybe just easiest to point you there: http://www.theglobetrottinggal.com/a-....

In short, it was fantastic!

Bar/lounge near Sidney St Cafe

Thanks for the recos, all! We ended up at Ernesto's (also recommended by my sister) which was perfect. Only downside is that there weren't any tables left on the adorable back patio, but that meant we had the whole inside to be as loud as we wanted. :) I've been to Venice Cafe back in the day, and we went to Vin last time we were in STL so it as fun to check out a nice place. Bonus - proximity to SSC. Thanks again.

Bar/lounge near Sidney St Cafe

Can anyone recommend a nice wine bar/lounge near Sidney St Cafe? My husband and I are meeting another couple (all mid-30s) for cocktails before dinner there. They're not joining us for dinner (so not drinks there--if there's even a bar for it. Have never been--yet.). Thanks is advance.

Catering for 40th birthday party in Tampa (Lithia/Fish Hawk)

I do not live in Tampa but am helping to plan a 40th birthday party there and we will need a caterer. It will likely be for about 20 people, so relatively small. We are open to type of food--Italian, Mexican, American, other. Probably the only types of food we wouldn't be interested in would be Indian, Chinese, Vietnamese. Looking for something that will please a wide range of tastes (kids + adults). Any recos?

One night in Houston - dinner recos, please

Technically two nights, but we are doing Mexican one night and have the second night (Saturday) open for dinner. Suggestions? I lived in Houston eight years ago and had many, many favorites back then (but admittedly was less of a food snob then, too). I don't know how any of those stack up now, though (or if they even exist anymore).

Here's what we (hubs and me) do and don't want:

No Mexican (already covered Friday)
Open to seafood or steak
No chains
No real price limit but we don't want to go somewhere stuffy-expensive
Good scene but not so loud that we have to scream to hear one another
No "scene-y" places (that require reservations a year in advance or at any point involves a velvet rope)
In an area where we could conceivably grab a drink nearby after

We're staying at ZaZa if that helps, but we will have a car.

Trendy Ft. Lauderdale dinner recommendation for 3 30-something gals

Excellent recommendation - thank you thank you thank you! Our concierge was able to get us a reservation at 8 which was good, because it was packed and looks like there were tons of walk-ins waiting. The food was really fantastic--everyone was really happy with what they choose. Drinks were great, too.

Trendy Ft. Lauderdale dinner recommendation for 3 30-something gals

I just checked out the Yolo website and it looks great. Sadly, no reservations available - only 6:30 (way too early) or 10 (too late for dinner). But I like the looks of it and the menu looks good, too. Other places like this that you might recommend?

I've heard good things about Las Olas from a friend who's been, so that area might be fun to try. The one thing we don't want to run into is the young spring break crowd...

Trendy Ft. Lauderdale dinner recommendation for 3 30-something gals

My sister, two girlfriends and I--all in our early to mid 30s--are spending the upcoming weekend in Ft. Lauderdale and would love some dinner recommendations. We are all quite open in terms of food with the sushi being the only thing we can't all agree on.

This is for a Saturday night dinner, so it would be nice if it were maybe more of a lounge-y place where we could get a cocktail before or after. One of us is on a bit of a budget, but after all it is a vacation so it isn't the biggest deciding factor. I'd say $30 - $50/ea. for dinner would probably be our limit.

Savannah lunch ideas - please confirm or offer new suggestions

Thanks again for the affirmations and suggestions. We had wonderful lunches at Crystal Beer Parlor, The Olde Pink House and J Christopher's. It was tough to decide but we were happy with all of them--particularly Crystal Beer Parlor. Most notable there was the Gawgia peach cobbler which we shared for dessert. I was already a wee bit full but couldn't let that deliciousness go to waste!

I really enjoyed the she-crab soup at The Olde Pink House, but my crabcake sandwich really wasn't anything special. My husband said he liked the crab shooters we had at Garibaldi's better. In comparing crab cakes, I'd say the crab cake benedict I had at J Christopher's on Sunday morning definitely blew those at The Olde Pink House out of the water--one of the best brunches I've ever had.

Thanks again, all!

Dinner suggestions for Amboise & Paris

The only catch is that we will not have a car when in Amboise. Is there an easy way to get to Vouvray via public transportation?

I would second the Publican and the Gage. Also good is La Madia. There's a smallish trendy bar area in the front and they have lots of great appetizers and fun drinks. Keep in mind the area is small, though, so depending on how many of you there are, that could pose a problem.

Another idea is Girl and the Goat. I was there a few weeks ago and I really really liked the bar area - perfect for something like this.

Brunch Near Red Line?

I completely forgot to mention The Gage. I've never been for brunch but it's one of my favorite restaurants. It's over on Michigan (at Madison), so a few blocks over from the Red Line but worth it.

Brunch Near Red Line?

To second kemmek, Bongo Room is right near the Roosevelt stop, but be prepared to wait. I live in this neighborhood and their almost always seems to be an endless line.

An alternative might be 11 City Diner, which is just up Wabash from Bongo Room. There's been a line every time I've gone but it moves pretty quickly.

Savannah lunch ideas - please confirm or offer new suggestions

All excellent suggestions... going to have a difficult time choosing! Possibly a stupid question, but I don't need to worry about reservations at any of these places at lunchtime, do I?

Savannah lunch ideas - please confirm or offer new suggestions

My husband and I will be in Savannah for 3 days next weekend for a wedding. We get in too late on Thurs. night and already have plans Fri. and Sat. for dinner (one of which is Garibaldi's), but we're looking for ideas for lunch on Fri. and Sat. and brunch or lunch on Sun.

Based on what I've seen here, I'm debating between Firely, J. Christopher's, Soho South, Crystal Beer Parlor, Mrs. Wilkes or The Olde Pink House (they're now open on Sundays for lunch according to Yelp?). Would you recommend one of these over the other? Are there other places we should consider that I don't have listed here?

We're both in our early 30s and love to eat good, local food. Neither of us are very picky and are willing to try just about anything, and we aren't particularly price-conscious. We won't have a car and we'll be staying at the Courtyard Marriott at 415 West Liberty St. on Thurs. and Fri., and at the Mansion on Forsyth Park on Sat.

We can only choose three places. What would your picks be?

Saturday night dinner recommendation in Champaign-Urbana

My husband and I try to go down to Champaign-Urbana once a year in the fall to catch a football game (I'm a U of IL alum). We like to have a nice dinner while we're there, ideally not in campustown (I'm getting too old for that!).

Last fall, we tried Bacaro and while I really wanted to like it (and did like the vibe), it just fell short and isn't someplace I'd like to return. Any recommendations of something along those lines in terms of menu and style?

I'd love to find a great local spot. I was thinking maybe Radio Maria. In my years in C-U, I never made it there but have heard nothing but good things. Open to suggestions, though, just no chains, please.

Dinner suggestions for Amboise & Paris

My husband and I are traveling to France at the end of Dec. We'll spend two nights in Amboise and three nights in Paris. The only place I have in mind that we must eat at is Les Papilles in Paris. I've been before and absolutely loved it and I'm sure my husband will feel the same.

I'd love some suggestions for other places in both locations. We're not at all picky and would honestly lean more to the adventurous side. Price isn't a major issue, either, but that said, I don't want to go someplace totally over the top and super fancy/stuffy. I typically just wing it when I go to Paris and can't recall having a bad meal there, but I'd like to actual plan it this go-round.

We'll be in Paris on New Year's Eve, so any recommendations for that (food or otherwise) are also welcome. I've been there before on NYE a few years ago, but that was a very different time in my life--single and there with a friend so our goal was simply to go out, drink and have a great time. Not that my husband and I wouldn't enjoy that, but on a different level.

Thanks in advance!

Girls' weekend in St. Petersburg

Three girlfriends and I (all early 30s) will be in St. Pete's for a bachelorette weekend in June and are looking for some restaurant recommendations. We won't have a car and would prefer not to have to take a lot of cabs so anything within walking distance (or a short cab ride) from our resort would be ideal. We're staying at the Sirata Resort (5300 Gulf Blvd.).

For dinners, we'd definitely like one really great Cuban restaurant and seafood would be nice, too. Also, any suggestions for good breakfasts would be helpful.

Preferably no chains. While we don't mind spending a fair amount, nothing too over the top pricey, please. There are a few foodies in the mix but not all of us.

Rehearsal dinner venue in Southern IL for Aug.

Throwing this one out there again... some of the requirements have changed:

- Mid-Aug. timeframe
- Southern IL - St. Louis metro east area (prefer IL and not St. Louis)
- MINIMUM of 40 adults
- No steakhouses

Thanks in advance!

We might *possibly* consider St. Louis, particularly if there's phenomenal Indian to be had.

- Mid-Aug. timeframe
- Southern IL - St. Louis metro east area (prefer IL and not St. Louis)
- MINIMUM of 25 adults and 6 kids
- No steakhouses
- Indian restaurant would be ideal; if not, should at least have vegetarian options

Steakhouse reco in southern IL/St. Louis metro area

My fiance and I (who live in Chicago) will be visiting the St. Louis metro east area to take my parents out to dinner for their 50th wedding anniversary. My dad has requested a steakhouse and suggested Andria's. However, they don't take reservations on Saturday nights (for groups of less than 10) and I definitely want to be able to make a reservation.

Doesn't need to be anything super fancy (would actually prefer that it isn't)--just a nice, casual steakhouse with exceptionally good food. My parents would probably prefer something more traditional than not. And my fiance and I are foodies, so we definitely don't want to take them to a chain steakhouse.

St. Louis dinner ideas

Planning a nice dinner out in St. Louis over the holidays. There will be 7 adults, some of whom are foodies. Looking for suggestions on where to go for a memorable, delicious dinner.

Price isn't much of a concern, though we don't want to go someplace where we have to get super dressed up, nor do we want to go someplace that's pretentious simply for the sake of being pretentious.

Open to most any cuisine, though good Italian would be a plus. Unfortunately not everyone likes sushi or Indian, so neither of those.

Would also be nice if there were some nicer lounges/bars nearby so we could get drinks after.

Scottsdale & Sedona dinner recos

The Elote Cafe looks exactly like what I had in mind. Can't remember where we ate when I was in Sedona two years ago - it was that memorable... this looks much better. Also like the looks of Elements. Thanks!

Scottsdale & Sedona dinner recos

Going to Scottsdale for a wedding over a long weekend in March. We'll have one night for dinner in Scottsdale and then plan to do a day trip to Sedona one day. Looking for recommendations for both.

For Scottsdale, I want someplace nice (which doesn't have to mean $$$$). I'm pretty particular about food and don't care what I spend on a nice meal, but at the same time I don't think outrageously expensive always equals outrageously good. Open to pretty much any cuisine. Noca's on my list but hoping to find something along these lines IN Scottsdale.

As for Sedona, casual is fine, but again, I want to go someplace that has the best food I can get in Sedona.

Thanks in advance...
