Berkeley

Since I also need a place for dinner by myself on Sat., I'll check these out. I've had lunch at Musical Offering.
Thanks!

Berkeley

Super! Thanks. I made reservations at Five.

Berkeley

My brother is taking me out to early dinner Fri. before we go to the Hitchcock film at BAMPFA that evening. Besides Chez Panisse, what else would be lovely? And relatively close to the campus.

Brunch at Cock-a-Doodle Cafe, Oakland

Hi all - is the C-A-D Cafe still open? Any good any more? Will be staying in Old Oakland for 3 nights, 2 days in Aug. for Hitchcock Fest. in Berkeley and want good breakfasts.

Rich Table - SF - Report

I called at 1 minute past midnight on June 9 to score a reservation for July 7.
Crowded, busy, noisy, happy, upscale-but-'casual',lively, place that reminds me of the old Stars Cafe (not Stars restaurant but also owned by celebrity chef Jeremiah Tower) that we loved in the '80's.
Fun to watch Chef Rich finish/taste/serve dishes and generally orchestrate everything.
The sardine chips were great but the sauce needed more horseradish to penetrate the luscious taste of the mezcal cocktail I had with it.
The watermelon salad was exquisite.
The octopus/roasted beet dish was unique and really, really good.
The dark chocolate pot de creme ......wasn't. Silky smooth but I was left with the taste of burnt strawberries rather than choc. Afterwards I was disgusted with myself for eating the whole thing just hoping for more flavor!

La Cabana, North Fork, CA

Really great gourmet Mexican food. The chef was at Erna's Elderberry House before marrying one of the waitresses and opening his own restaurant in North Fork of all places.
Some unique items on the menu; regular stuff, too, but wonderfully done. Desserts are all made on site and very high-end.
Casual, friendly, inexpensive. Nice outdoor deck. Folks "in the know" come from all over!

Fresno/Clovis Dining

Campagnia is too noisy, Ruth's Chris is a chain as is Yosemite Ranch and both are way too high fat.

Buttermilk Pancakes in Fresno/Clovis

Not a lot to choose from in Fresno for breakfast. Now in Kingburg there's the Dala Horse for fabulous Swedish Pancakes (crepes) but their oatmeal pancakes are leaden.

North Lake Tahoe

Reviews:

River Ranch (resort) Restaurant in Tahoe City was good (but the elk meatloaf was horrible; the fresh halibut and roasted elk were wonderful), nice setting right on the river, good wines, very casual. The outdoor dinner area is really close to the lunch area full of families and rafters.

The Wild Goose is permanently closed and used for private parties only.

Stella was fabulous! Menu, wines, setting! Hard to find as they aren't allowed a sign on the road. Outside of Truckee by the Brockway Golf course on the Cedar House Sport Hotel grounds. stellaculinary.com

Moody's in Truckee - good appetizers, good wines, good bar. Lunch and dinner menus looked nothing like we remembered so we didn't eat there.

Old Town Grill in Placerville is one of our favorite places! Incredible malts, great bison burgers! Very tiny place with upscale food.

Would have liked to try Christy Hill and/or Sunnyside in Tahoe City and Soule Domaine in Tahoe Vista but all were booked up.

Malmo, Sweden

Hi curry - Thanks. I'm only going to Malmo because my maternal grandmother came from there. She thot it was boring! And split for the States. Will now spend only one day there and may go see the Viking stuff or go up to Lund to see the church and univ. Everyone sez: go to Copenhagen! Well, I don't have enuf time for that great city.
Thanks again
L.

Thanks
