What would Emily Post do? [moved from New Orleans]
Not to take up for the 6 top of drunks but there are, after all, certain maxims when it comes to dining out, to wit: don't expect the best service/fish on a Monday night; NEVER dine out on Valentine's Day or New Years Eve; things are gonna get loud/rude in New Orleans during Jazz Fest. (You even allowed for a volume increase). But, no matter, you can be rude right back during Jazz Fest! I, too, lament the general decline in manners but it is what it is. Would I have grinned and borne it? Depends on my mood and if I had been drinking at Jazz Fest all day. Either option is fine in the circumstance you found yourself in.
Bangkok City--any reports?
Recently I have been hearing some really good things about this Thai restaurant. I do not believe there have been any reports on Chowhound. Anyone been?
Fun / Romantic recommendations for this weekend
If not too far out of your way give Bolsa and perhaps some other places in Oak Cliff a try.

Upscale restaurant for a business dinner/meeting?
Should be no problem getting a quiet table at Fearing's on a Sunday night.
Rick's on the Square--Tyler, TX
Mike: Lunch is indeed much different. The plate lunches are still very good, especially the chicken pot pie on Wednesday and catfish on Friday. The soul food place near the square you refer to has closed.
Rick's on the Square--Tyler, TX
Lot's of DFW hounds get to Tyler fairly often I am sure. Check out the link below on the Texas Board.

Rick's on the Square--Tyler, TX
I am finally getting around to reporting on a great new development at Rick's. The restaurant now has a great sous chef (Tyler is his name, do not know last name) who is cooking some pretty unbelievable food in the evenings. He has previously plied his trade at some of the finer Texas seafood restaurants and he has a deftness with seafood found nowhere else in Tyler. Last night I had a potato encrusted halibut served over sauteed garlic spinach with shitake mushrooms with a very fine gruyere sauce. The fish was cooked perfectly and the dish was amazing. Last week it was pan broiled salmon (perfectly cooked and crispy on the outside) served over julienned vegetables with a balsamic reduction sauce. Recently he has also prepared roasted halibut or sea bass in a buerre blanc sauce with poached fingerling potatoes, cherry tomato confit and sweet pea puree and a sliced rare filet with in-house made gnocchi, sauteed spinach and portabella mushrooms. Several patrons are starting to take notice and if we support Tyler's efforts I see more excellent cooking in the future. Thursday nights have become a sort of "Chef's Choice/Feed Me " night for several of us--we just come in and ask the chef to prepare what he feels like with the freshest ingredients he has available.
Tyler is not known for fine dining although there are places where you can get a decent meal. Bernard Mediterranean Restaurant comes to mind, of course. I hope that the locals and those traveling to Tyler get the word and give this fine chef a chance. I am going to cross post this on the DFW Board as well since lots of visitors to Tyler come from there. (I assume the moderator will move this post but, whatever).
Happy Dining!
First time to NOLA, 3 day trip, need some feedback on the not to be missed stuff
I agree with Hunt about Brigtsen's. Ate there a few weeks ago and it was wonderful in every way.
Review: First Bijoux Visit Since Change
Thanks for the report Mike. I haven't been since the change but definitely will soon. I am wondering if anyone has tried lunch there yet.
Off-Site Kitchen
Thanks for the positive feedback--definitely going to try to get lunch there next time I am in Dallas.
Off-Site Kitchen
Hard to believe but I don't believe anyone has posted a review of Off-Site Kitchen. Anyone been?
recs for solo dining, near Warwick Melrose Hotel?
I think the OP idea of Al Biernat's fits the bill--great to eat at the bar and the seafood options are first rate. Pretty good walk, however.
Bijoux going Bistro (at least it isn't becoming another steak house!)
Anyone had lunch at Bijoux yet?
Best Seafood Restaurant in San Diego
I cannot comment about you being a personal shill but I can say that I ate at Gaberdine tonight and the meal was outstanding--had Moonfish for the first time and it was superb. Full report to follow. One negative I must report--the restaurant is loud beyond belief--we had to pracitcally scream to be heard at our five top.
Best Seafood Restaurant in San Diego
Thanks for the tips. We are staying in PL and definitely want to get some fish tacos at Bragantine soon.
Best Seafood Restaurant in San Diego
Got you. Ate at the Top of the Market last evening and it was indeed wonderful. I will have to try the oyster bar downstairs, especially since Point Loma Seafood is going to be closed my entire trip!
Best Seafood Restaurant in San Diego
I understand that. I assume BC meant to only get oysters and sushi at the Fish Market downtown and nothing else.
Best Seafood Restaurant in San Diego
Chick: I am confused. What is the difference between "Fish Market downtown" and the Top of the Market/Fish Market? Forgive my ignorance--I am visiting from out of state.
The Infamous Line at Galatoires
I agree that getting there at 11:00 on a Saturday shouldn't be a problem. Friday is definitely a diffferent story.

Commander's fits the bill perfectly.
Bijoux going Bistro (at least it isn't becoming another steak house!)
That is a trend I can get used to!
Foodie's first trip to New Orleans and needs advice!!
I don't think there is any particular "problem" with upstairs. For the OP, however, or for someone such as myself who only gets to Galatoire's every couple of years or so I would highly recommend downstairs. The "tableau" (I think tumult or bustle are better descriptions but I won't quibble) downstairs is an important part of the Galatoire's experience for me but I will confess that if I ate there often I would probably enjoy a quiet or quieter lunch or dinner upstairs from time to time. And, finally, I am there to see the commotion, not to be seen, and I don't dine there often enough for it to get old. To summarize: I agree with everything you write about Galatoire's in your posts on this thread!
Foodie's first trip to New Orleans and needs advice!!
No way I would try to do Galatoire's in an hour and a half. Also, although a few disagree, I would not eat upstairs. (Also, there is NO WAY I am gonna refer to Galatoire's as "Gals", even to save a few strokes on the keyboard!)
Dinner options near Hilton Bayfront at 1 Park Blvd near Petco Park
Man, the menu at RLD does look tempting!
Best Happy Hour - Hermes Bar @ Antoine's or Dickie Brennan's Steakhouse?
Yes, Galatoire's is in the same block as GW Fins--Fins down the street and around the corner a couple of doors. I have walked from Canal to Galatoire's and further into the quarter no telling how many times without incident. Never REALLY late but as late as 10:00 or 11:00 for sure.

To TaTee: First, I think that the Hermes Bar would be a great choice. I am interested to know why you do not frequent any place in the 1st block of Bourbon (notwithstanding the fact that Fins isn't in the first block). I assume you do not partonize Galatoire's at night?
Best Happy Hour - Hermes Bar @ Antoine's or Dickie Brennan's Steakhouse?
I was in NO a couple of weeks ago and had drinks at GW Fins in the Quarter. Nice bar and it would be a good place for a group of 8 to 10. I have heard good things about the food but have never eaten there. The staff seemed very nice, professional and accommodating.

New Orleans this weekend!
If you want a special place to celebrate Galatoire's is your spot.
