Cured meat father's day gift in Manhattan or by mail
I'd like to get my husband a selection of cured meats for father's day, and was hoping for a little direction from the dog house. He leans more toward the cured sausage end of the spectrum than the prosciutto end with salamis being his favorite. I know about Boccalone, but they seem to get mixed reviews around here.
Mail order is fine, or I could go to a shop in Manhattan, but I would prefer something in a mini-size for storage and presentation purposes.
Super thanks!
Korean Caterer in NYC
Does anyone have any suggestions for a Korean caterer in NYC? My daughter's birthday party is this weekend, and while I got some great suggestions for hors d'oeurve at the Home Cooking site, the thought of preparing everything myself is pretty overwhelming.
Has anyone ever used or attended a party catered by a Korean restaurant in NYC? Do restaurants in Queens delivery to Manhattan?
Thanks!
Room temperature hors d'œuvre ideas
Calling all caterers!
We're hosting my daughter's first birthday next Sunday and need some ideas for finger foods to be served at room temperature. The party is in the afternoon, and I'll have the ability to heat things up in the morning, but the venue doesn't have a heat source and only a mini fridge. I may order a platter of maki from a local restaurant, but other than cheese, crackers and dip, I'm a bit at a loss for what to serve. Are puff pastry type foods ok served at room temperature? Also, we could bring a crock pot for something like meatballs(?) or whatever, but I'm a little short on ideas. Ideally foods that can be eaten in one bite with one hand would be best so things like soup or chili are out. There will be a lot of babies and not much seating. There will be about 45 adults at the party.
I'm swamped with last minute planning and would greatly appreciate any ideas and advice!
Thanks!!
Baby's first birthday party venue on UWS
My lovely daughter is turning 1 soon, and we'd like to throw her a little party, but have had trouble finding a venue. Does anyone know of a party room for a Sunday afternoon affair?
Thanks!
Recommendations near the Jubilee line? [London]
I'm in London for the week with my six-month old daughter and realized this weekend that traveling to the far corners of London wasn't such a bright idea. We're staying in Canary Wharf so any recommendations in the area or within walking distance from the Jubillee Line or DLR would be greatly appreciated. I'm up for anything, and budget is not an issue, but it must be baby friendly. Oh, and I would LOVE a good rec for Indian.
Thanks!
Crif's - meh?
My husband has been raving about Crif's hotdogs for a while and we just had a couple last weekend. I give them a solid meh rating. The flavors were decent, but I definitely expected more snap and I agree that they seemed a bit skimpy.
Any bakeries that deliver?
I'm visiting from the NYC boards, but would like to send a friend some delicious baked goods today to thank him for a little favor. Does anyone know of a great bakery that will deliver to the Loop? Preferably they would delivery some delicious pies, but I'm open to other suggestions.
Thanks!
Where to get great eggplant parmigiana?
I'm rapidly approaching my due date this week and unfortunately my body isn't cooperating, so I thought I would try to do a little self-induction with some great eggplant parm. Any recommendations?
Thanks!
Lunch/Dinner near Park & 126th
My husband and I are going to the jazz museum, and I would love to surprise him with a great dinner in the area. Anything goes, but a rib place would be great. Thanks!
Cheap/Budget Eats in Montreal
Hi All,
We're spending 5 days in Montreal and would love some recommendations for budget restaurants for lunch/dinner. We love all cuisine, and would be willing to travel almost anywhere.
Thanks!
Nutrition Message Board
Hello,
Does anyone know of a forum that discusses nutritional issues? I'm interested more in the science-y side rather than the diet-y side.
Thanks!
Three Floyds open on Thanksgiving?
Does anyone know is they're open today? We need something to do tonight!
Emergency Soup in the East 50s
Help! I'm incredibly sick with fever & company, and I just moved to the east 50s. Where, oh where can I find some wonderful delivered soup? Any kind of soup would be wonderful. Only requirements are hot and soupy.
My throat thanks you profusely!
Adding egg to your oatmeal?
I often make a savory oatmeal with 2 eggs, salt, pepper and occasionally cheese and green onions. I cook the oatmeal with water until nearly done and then add the other ingredients. It's great for breakfast but can also be a very satisfying dinner.
Italy near Cote d'Azur
I'm currently living on the Cote d'Azur in France, but we're planning a road trip to Italy this weekend. Any recommendations for must see markets, shops, restaurants (all prices) within an hour or so from Nice?
Thanks!!
repellant puffer fish dish
Most Koreans will put the entire piece of fish in their mouth, chew for a minute or so and then spit out only the decimated bones. This is the technique for eating almost anything with reasonably small/soft bones or shells and includes fish heads and some types of crab.
Best Pho (or other Vietnamese recs) in Paris
I've tried a handful of places and haven't found any gems yet. There are so many Vietnamese restaurants in this city that someone must know of a treasure. Any ideas?
Thanks!
