Teaching children to behave at restaurants

I also think that the difference between a coloring book and a gameboy/dvd is the level at which a child can tune out their environment. With a coloring book, the child can still see and hear her parents talking to one another and talking with her. She can learn the patterns of conversation and how to sit of extended periods of time with out high expectations for stimulation (i.e.- video games and movies.) This is one of the reasons my husband and I refuse to get DVD Player/ Screen in our car.

Teaching children to behave at restaurants

Totally agree with this, Danhole. I think the point of eating together is the conversation, and children need to learn the art of socialization. Part of manners is taking part in what is happening around them, and being able to converse with others. I have a 10 month old son, so I'm not there yet as a parent, but I don't want to buy him off for good behavior. I want him to behave well because he's a well-behaved child. Hope that makes sense.

Spring's Hottest Accessory: Pig

I think they're right. If you can't look at a picture of a dead pig, you shouldn't eat pork. So, because of these pictures, I'm done with pork. Seriously, done. Maybe I'll see some cow, chicken, and fish shots along the way just to send me over the edge.

Italian Meatballs

How could one make a huge batch of meatballs and freeze them? Does that ruin the consistency? Or do they freeze up pretty well? Thanks!

Is the Thank-You Card Obsolete?

My mom makes awesome cards, and those are the only ones I like receiving in the mail. Receiving a card from her is like getting a gift in the mail because of all the intricacy and effort she puts into making them. Store bought cards, in order to be special, need to have a very personal letter written in it that makes it work keeping. Otherwise it just seems like someones effort to have etiquette, and I just throw it away. What else can you do with it? I never felt unappreciated after giving a gift and not receiving a thank you card in the mail.
