Hi Beaker75 - I found your post as I'm in town from Toronto for a couple days. Do you have any recommendations to pass along?

Itinerary for Marbella and surrounding areas in the south

Hi citykid426 - I really enjoyed reading your posts. My boyfriend and I are heading to Marbella in a few weeks and I'm loving the research...we obviously will not be hitting up beaches as it's a bit cooler now but we are looking to visit as many towns as we can. I can't wait to get to Ronda! Are there any other places/restaurants that are absolute must-sees? We have the same taste in food and the more authentic the better (keeping in mind we speak extremely limited Spanish).

Marbella options were lacking- I assumed it was bc this is no place for a foodie, but couldn't give up looking. I always use CH everywhere I go but there were no recent posts for Marbella/Puert Banus, so here are my recommendations- in the old town Marbel

Hi CozyF - there isn't any content in your message and I'd love to get some recommendations! Can you recall any great experiences?

Great list, thanks all. Any recommendations at danji?

Midtown - Best Eats?

I'll be at 56th between 6th and 7th and yes, it'll be a solo meal. I've never had an amazing experience in the area (other than steakhouses for business meals - no interest in my free time) but I suspect it's more that I don't know where to go.

Midtown - Best Eats?

Hi - I'm staying in midtown west for the evening and I'm looking for a can't miss, knock-your-socks-off meal. I'd like to stay away from Italian (I have my favorites here in Toronto) but other than that, I'm open to anything. Budget doesn't matter. No white tableclothes or 'hot spots' please - I'd prefer a more informal dining experience.
Thanks in advance.

Hidden gems that you don't wanna tell even the closest friend?

Hi Ipsedixit - any other can't-misses in the midtown area? I'm in town for one night and I've never had a knock-your-socks-off meal in the area, but I suspect it's more that I don't know where to go. I'd prefer something informal, cuisine doesn't matter (I like it all). Empanada Mama looks fantastic. anything else you'd recommend?

Berkeley Church - Wedding

Hi - we are looking at having our wedding at the Berkeley Church and I was hoping for feedback on the food. The last posting about it was quite a while ago, so if anyone has any updated information that would be really helpful.

Weddings at Archeo

Hi - it's been awhile since you posted this but I'm looking to host my wedding at Archeo as well. Do you have an update on food/service? I'd love to get your feedback!

My Daughter- The Foodie

+3 for Japango. Excellent sushi.

Although I wouldn't necessarily categorize Campagnolo on Dundas West as fine Italian I think it has the vibe you are looking for. Wonderful dishes - the menu is seasonal but they typically have a few pasta dishes that are excellent. The burrata/grape appetizer is to die for.

Momofuko is good but my experience in NYC was better - much richer broth (might just be growing pains) although the pork buns were excellent in both restaurants. I've tried to go to Kinton in Baldwin Village but I couldn't last the 1+ wait time. I've heard great things about it.

have a wonderful time with your daughter!

Cheesecake help

this is an excellent website - thank you for sharing! He prefers ricotta style, not super sweet or flavored. i can't remember where we've gone before so i guess that tells you how memorable it was...and obviously got sucked into a few tourist traps. Thanks so much for your help!

Cheesecake help

I am looking for the best cheesecake in midtown Manhattan. I'm visiting for the weekend with my father (who makes almost everything he eats from scratch - he's a tough critic). During our annual trips to NYC he is always on the hunt for the perfect cheesecake and we haven't been able to deliver just yet.

We are staying at 42nd and 2nd but it doesn't have to be in the vicinity of our hotel - very open to walking. I would just like to blow his socks off.

Thanks in advance for any recommendations!

The Gabardine...great devilled eggs. After that, downhill.

My boyfriend and I usually go with the fish special (no matter what it is) and it's consistently fantastic. I think I've been there for lunch at least 10-12 times and the specials or burger, mac&cheese or chicken pot pie is the way to go. The sandwiches haven't wowed me either.

I do think it's worth giving another chance.

Paleo Friendly Restaurants in Downtown Minneapolis?

hi Hounders,
I'm in Minneapolis for the evening (staying at the Westin) for work and one of my colleagues is a dedicated paleo-diet enthusiast (no dairy, no carbs). Seafood and various meats are OK. Saffron looks interesting but I'm not sure where else to go - any ideas? Price is not an issues and a fun atmosphere would be welcome - nothing too formal but not too bar-style either.
Any thoughts?

Help some visitors to Toronto? Weekend of Feb.10th-12th.

I live in the area and would suggest checking with Terroni's on Adelaide west. It's a cool atmosphere and the food is decent. The kids would love the pizza/ pasta choices and the parents can enjoy a better atmosphere than old spag factory.

The keg would also be a good choice and they can handle big parties- its a chain steakhouse but a more moody atmosphere.

Miami Restaurants HELP!

Tom - went to Tap Tap last night and it couldn't have been better. Excellent recommendation! Huge thank you. If you're curious we had the whole snapper in a scotch bonnet sauce and the creole shirmp with coconut.

We're thinking about going back tonight:) thanks again!

Miami Restaurants HELP!

We booked a last minute trip to Miami and need some help with the food - Ocean Drive's restaurants all seem inauthentic and overpriced. I would welcome any recommendations on great places around the area (we don't have a car and don't want to travel too far) for casual good food that's not overpriced. We are staying at Hotel Victor so around that area would be great.

We also don't mind spending the money if the experience is worth it. Would love some authentic Cuban or Mexican recommendations but not limited by that at all.
Thanks for any recommendations!

Kensington Market?

I'd recommend the Back Alley Grill as you can get delicious pizzas and simpler chicken dishes for the kids; although they do have asian inspired dishes there clearly is a variety. The vibe is very relaxed and has more of an atmosphere than other in-and out type places (although I agree with BequiaT that walking around and having a bit of everything is the best way to explore Kensington.)
Make sure to have dessert at Wanda's Pie in the Sky - it's amazing the the kids will love it!
Enjoy!

supersweet asparagus at Nota Bene

hi Prima,
I had the pickerel at Splendido which was to die for - my boyfriend and I were both fighting over the second piece:) He had the braised lamb with sausage which wasn't special - not a lot of flavor. We had the veal ragu as an appetizer (can you see a theme here) and it was delightful, the perfect amount.

The raw scallops as an app did nothing for me - it was the first time I've had them raw and they were too fishy, which I was expecting. Our jump into the adventurous did not go very far!

I also had the best stinky cheese I've ever tasted and I wish I could remember the name of it. Their selection is rather small so I'm sure your server can point it out as it was absolutely delightful.

Overall, a great meal. I may have to try NB again after your suggestions. Thank you!

supersweet asparagus at Nota Bene

I also went to Nota Bene for the first time (and brought four out of town guests) yesterday and was completely underwhelmed. The only thing redeeming about the experience was the wonderful waitress and sommelier - I thought the food was completely disappointing. That said, I did not have the seasonal vegetables but the tuna tartare to start and the pappardelle with wild boar ragu as a main (that dish is my weakness!). There wasn't anything that stood out about the meal which - I guess - is my real issue.

I dined at Splendido last week and was looking forward to comparing the two restaurants. Unfortunately, my expectations were clearly too high.

However, I'm glad to know that possibly I just did not order the best dishes on the menu. Good to know if I ever go back which most likely won't happen soon, but I appreciate the recommendations.

I'm just not sure the exorbitant price is worth another underwhelming experience!

398 West - Closed due to bankruptcy

A friend of mine had been planning a trip to Toronto for a couple months now and made reservations at 398 West. Turns out they went bankrupt a week ago. Just wanted to warn anyone who was thinking of going since they aren't calling reservations to let them know. Yikes!

Puerto Rico Dining Help - San Juan

I'm traveling to Puerto Rico for the first time and am VERY interested in eating local, "you can't miss" type of hidden gems. I'm staying in San Juan but definitely want to travel around the area. Anything I shouldn't miss? Any recommendations are welcome!!

Jamie Kennedy

Thank you!! Wow great find - love the coupon sites. Have you been to Gilead before?

Jamie Kennedy

I'm fairly new to Toronto and haven't been to one of Jamie Kennedy's restaurants yet. I'd like to check out Gilead Cafe this weekend - any recommendations/thoughts? Would love to hear reviews.
