Does ordering "outside brown" have a downside?

Native Lexingtonian here. :) Agree with the other posters, they'll just mix it in.

Latin Quarters, Raleigh

Good to know, thanks. We've been thinking about dinner there. The house-made sausages look good. I actually tweeted them recently about kids and they said bring 'em on. I don't have to have crayons, but like to make sure places I've never been are cool with kids before we go.

Latin Quarters, Raleigh

Anyone been to Latin Quarters? They are focusing a lot on the nightclub part of the business but have an interesting menu and accommodate children.

Fresh seafood in Wrightsville Beach?

Update- we went this past weekend and got seafood at Mott's. Thanks for the recommendation- got some great shrimp and made some excellent tacos with fresh black bass.

Fresh seafood in Wrightsville Beach?

Hi all! We're heading to Wrightsville in a few weeks to stay at a relative's beach house. I've never been to Wrightsville Beach. We'll likely be cooking rather than eating out. Where are the best fresh seafood markets?

Eating out with a baby-Triangle/Triad NC

Definitely agree about the noise factor. We've been taking our daughter- now 3- to "non kid" places for a while, but we always base it on noise and try to go early enough to avoid interrupting anyone's date night. We've had success with Coquette, especially for lunch/ brunch. I also agree with the need to be able to make a quick exit. We've had to get boxes and dash before.

Another thing I look for is the table setup. If they're all high, pub style tables, or if the place doesn't offer highchairs at all, I take it as a hint.

Bulkogi Restaurant in Wake Forest

Awesome. I'd been wondering when it was going to open.

Mateo, downtown Durham

I'm interested in it for sure, but I'm apt to let the excitement die and try to figure out kid friendliness. (She's almost three so we only take her out for lunch and EARLY dinners, and never to places where we feel like we'd disturb people.)

Padron peppers in the Triangle

Cool. I live in Raleigh but I've read that the Durham market is the most reliable place to get them...I don't think I've seen them at the state farmer's market before. I need to get to Durham more anyway!

Padron peppers in the Triangle

Anyone know where I might be able to find padron peppers in the Triangle? I know they are in season, and it's a little steep to have them shipped from my favorite Spanish food provider.

We have, too. Just waiting for the right time to get a sitter and head over there.

I haven't eaten there yet so I can't tell you how the food is, but Vinos Finos y Picada in North Raleigh seems to have "real" tapas. The menu's not huge but it's a start and the dishes are inexpensive. http://www.vinosfinosypicadas.com/our...

FRESH pasta in Raleigh area

Melina's is great. I get their pasta through Papa Spud's and I have been very impressed with the quality. They also sell their pasta at various farmer's markets in the area.

raleigh nc - vino restaurant or other italian

I like Assaggio's. We don't eat out a lot, but we're pretty close to them and have gotten pizza and pasta dishes to bring home. I've been impressed.

Looking in the RDU Area for Bacala or Bacalao

Whole Foods on Wade Ave. has had frozen salt cod, which is more or less the same thing. It worked fine for the recipe we used it in. I've also seen it in Grand Asia, but not on a regular basis.

You can also order it from La Tienda, though it's pricier...but their stuff is nice. www.tienda.com

Spanish Chorizo in Raleigh?

I've only seen it at certain HT stores, not all of them have it. When we make paella, etc, we have luck at the one on Edwards Mill in Raleigh as well as the one on Creedmoor. They have chorizo and linguica. It might not hurt to call and ask, though, as it's not consistent.

Also, I've seen it in different locations in the stores. One may have it with the other chorizos and sausages, and another may have it with the salami, etc, in the gourmet cheese case.

Bacalao in the Triangle?

Thanks, everyone! For some reason, it never occurred to me just to look at those places...just assumed I'd have to get to A Southern Season (not that that's a bad thing!).

Bacalao in the Triangle?

Anyone know of a good source for bacalao in the Triangle? We've found it at Grand Asia but they don't have it consistently. We can order it online via La Tienda but it's a little pricy.

Who are your Favorite Vendors at the Raleigh Farmer's Market

I get Rainbow Meadow Farms' products via Papa Spud's and they are indeed good.

I also really like Mae Farms. They sell meats in the upper enclosed building. Excellent chorizo.

Smiley’s Lexington BBQ

I'm glad you tried Cheerwine. I grew up in Lexington and Cheerwine and BBQ were staples! Food Lion stores in NC carry Cheerwine ice cream bars and sherbet.

Now I need a sandwich with lots of slaw and a big glass of Cheerwine...good thing I'm headed to Lexington next weekend!

Best CSA in the RTP area?

We just got our first Papa Spud's order this week and were impressed. Quantities were good and everything was nice and fresh. I love their website's ease of use and the flexibility they offer. Plus anyone who will bring bacon and pies straight to my house is OK in my book.

Market Restaurant in Raleigh

It makes a great trip with Escazu. Market was also very accommodating to our toddler last time we were there.
